  1. I know there are some serious fire truck buffs on this site ; they chime in might have additional info. fire trucks are in a world of their own . Mack sent me to fire app school back in the '70's to learn up. waterbury Mack sold two fire trucks while I was there; an MB and an R model. both of which I hear are still around. not in full service; parade units etc.
  2. best part about the few sites such as this is the group that comprises such sites tend to be great people. one of the few enjoyments i had when able to have time off was to attend the old hit/ miss engine shows. the people there (many ole timers) not only had an unbelievable amount of knowledge (and stories) but also the willingness to share both, have to be careful here or i'll do my usual and go off topic. LOL also THANK YOU; it has been and continues to be a two way street in the knowledge /learning dept. you have taught me also.
  3. a little in site as something seemly so simple as " this is a fire truck helps. many times fire apparatus come under their own specs.
  4. possibly brakes were added later. do you know much history of the truck== who owned it previous or who may have changed parts not corresponding to axle tag.
  5. one of the many things in todays world is this E business. back then an engine was what it was ;;; 285/ 300/350etc. much like the cat excavators today vs year back. simple 325 (3 +quarter ) 345- and so on . todays world has all different designations. should have been around when this 4 valve stuff first showed up ..LOL . JOJO if the one's that "know it all " continue we are in trouble. life is a learning experience every day. I've learned so much (not all positive) since finding this site.
  6. are you sure there are two separate switches ??last MF 135 I worked on (many yrs ago) ;; a diesel didn't have two .. possibly then it was a MF35. neutral switch may be internal ; follow the wires . a clutch switch possibly external.
  7. changed the dryer AND the governor ;; did we check the line connecting the two . some systems will continue to cycle if air pressure is lost in leaking line. check complete line for chafing / hole etc.
  8. update :: 1/4 in line from governor to dryer NOT ::repeat NOT from compressor to dryer
  9. did you check unloader line from compressor to air dryer. possible 1/4 in line; if it has a leak, system will act erratic.
  10. any pictures of engine so we are all on "same page " in responses
  11. if you have to wait 20 +- seconds before trans will go into gear without grinding; i would look at the possibility the clutch brake ( if a single disc has one) isn't working. looking up from bottom on trans bellhousing through the 3x4 opening, the pilot shaft might have a 3 piece tiny clutch assembly known as a clutch brake. later versions were a one piece unit. a 3 piece consist of two fiber disc and one center steel plate. the steel plate usually shears off the two tabs connecting it to pilot shaft. on the bottom of trans bell housing is there an adjustable (3/4or 7/8???threaded stud sticking out????
  12. another post a while back showed removal of the small 90 degree brackets by mounting bolts. can't remember reason. if that gave additional adjustment .
  13. getting weak meaning it's slipping under load? the CL28 isn't a good reference to me ; many others on here can translate that number to a single or double disc. i would think it's a mack clutch not spicer or other brand. possibly lipe
  14. wish i spent more time yrs ago thinking more rubber to worry about !!! i'd be single still and NO i'm not your daddy.😁
  15. seems to me a challenge to take a tandem dump body and mount it to a single axle;; might be a little over hang.
  16. ones green other is red ;;; put some lights on both and your all set for Christmas in the Neiborhood. then with a cup of coffee (or other) sit and stare at both while you ponder the situation.
  17. that style brake chamber has a o-ring/ seal with a felt wiper inside. when the brakes start acting up first check is the small 5/8th dia vent on mounting face of can. tiny small holes clog faster than ---- fill in the blank
  18. seems like temptation never quits LOL . now that's close by.
  19. Not a maxi can ;; old style brake chamber only unit has a hand brake correct. looks like a drum up on drive line by trans. that style can has a ring of screw driver style bolts around it 6-maybe 8. use to be rebuildable . some B 's had a maxi with 1/2 in rod going to brakes . chamber was mounted in the frame
  20. what part of Mass;; Im in CT .
  21. standard single axle set up . don't think qualifies as camel -back .
  22. when the air assist starts acting up like not so smooth , the cyl on tie rod usually develops a groove mid way. wedge brakes are like everything else;; great when working right: real pain in a-- when time for repair/ replace. have changed a couple from wedge to cam. most times owner was better off finding another donor. swapping entire assemblies.
  23. now if they were B models ; the only wires in the frame rails that could /would short out would be for the TWO tail lights. first seeing a western that had low level sensors for the rear ends was really some thing back then.
  24. did it again guess;; went off topic. JOJO , how long did it take to figure that reply' i'm all out of likes again. i keep reading the reply : you know i can't afford alot of laughter , start coughing. this case it's worth it. wife thinks i m insane (still).
  25. NOW HOW DID YOU GET PERMISSION TO TAKE MY WIFE'S PLACE AND BREAK MY BA-LS lol😂
