  1. he is the victim !::he had to use taxpayers money to buy those drugs when his daddy should have gotten them for him for free. poor lad.
  2. memory is correct the 675 becomes a 676 with the tip turbine. I do recall a 300 /315 version talked of way back then when they were NEW products. wasn't a lot of rebuilding then being new and the slogan "built like a Mack truck meant something.

  5. pulling both as one unit -no problem . except when only lifting device is two hands and strong back. the reassembly done MANY times as one unit works. prefer reassembly as two separate units myself.
  6. might have to keep some pictures close by on reassembly. at least the picture showing location of the three odd ball studs used to clamp angle bracket for tip-turbine fan(intercooler) brace.
  7. toolbox always had a drawer with the plastic caps for things such as open ports on injection pump. any work activity such as the removal of heads put dirt/grit in those holes. at least a rag to cover. just sayin. looking at those excellent pictures has the brain cells going "remember when " the fun days. after assembly ; best part is sound engine makes on start up.
  8. only one gummed up stud !! you came out lucky. many times due to time constrains head gaskets are changed with heads still clamped together by manifolds. it will work BUT life span of the gaskets may be shortened. when heads are set/torqued individually torque per head is tad more accurate.
  9. seems time is closing in on all the ole timers; like Tex Ritter says in "Hillbilly Heaven song". I can't bring my toolbox with me ; think the heat will melt everything. I do my best Not to think of people in past tense. they seem to hang out even after they leave here. Glen Akers Left a wealth of knowledge for all to learn by. at Waterbury Mack it is Ole Man Al Dixon in the machine shop. His knowledge would fill a complete set of manuals.
  10. you really know how to make a guy feel bad , LOL .. 8 am I was at set up for Kof C Church function; left for short term watching the clear skies thinking " I could make it to Bethlehem to see up close the B-73 then make it back in afternoon for K of C event, didn't make Bethlehem figuring I could make the Sunday half. we all know locally it was clouds and rain Sunday . that picture of the B-73 between "those other brands" is fantastic ; LMAO !!. it says - I'm older then you , see if you look this good when your my age !! Thanks for pictures..

  14. interesting when the fins on outside are bent over from pressure washing out to in .looks clean and see how good we did blasting crap deeper in to cores. but it's too much work to clean from fan side out.

  17. i do remember the ability to lock a horton fan; can't recall viscous being able to lock ? far as this unit = another question is "with warmer weather coming , truck runs warmer "" .. by chance warmer temps high enough that AC is being used?? answer -yes ::: now temps in front of radiator even hotter which will show on gauge. todays world with 3 cores in front of fan . collection of bugs etc greater also. have another brand of truck working on today for same issue. have to be extremely careful if using air hose or pressure washer to clean cores. I separated the AC core expecting the worse (truck hauls hay ) = actually wasn't that bad between cores. AC expansion valve/ dryer on order. the joys of retirement.
  18. consider accuracy of the gauge could be off a tad. stays in green high side except able. big question is :: "fan stays running?? " as joey stated a viscous fan is continuously spinning ; unlike a horton which when not needed goes for the ride. viscous will spin appear to be doing something yet NOT fully engaged for engine cooling. the temp running high side could be due to number of variables. outer temp /load weight pulled/ amount of bugs etc in radiator=intercooler- ac cores. if this IS a viscous fan number one place to look first the bi-metal plate front center of fan hub, dirt/ crap collects stopping plate from flex pushing in plunger to transfer viscous fluid to second halve engaging fan.
  19. another change in times " company had a roll of cable= speedo or tach with an assortment of different ends ; also the proper crip tool for fixed to cable drive ends. Jojo to answer your question above ::: most speedo spiral gears only slid onto the yoke. tightening the yoke nut compressed spiral against yoke/bearing. didn't require much for tight was only mated to speedo cable. as with much back then life was better. time killing on shuttle job , I would disconnect the speedo cable ride the highway after 5pm in summer and see alot. never showed a mile on speedo. can't have that fun today.
  20. '62 ??? Mack ( B model ?) . on occasion knowing the model number helps. one battery box or two? I say two. box big enough for two 6 volt in series {== 12 volt} ? series parallel switch ? I go with the idea of checking cable terminal ends in box(es). even two sixes with jumper still only have two out cables
  21. that speedo spiral should be a separate part from yoke. Tightening the nut/bolt on yoke to pinion is what keeps speedo drive gear tight. depending on problem with yoke ; seal leaking : a speedi -sleeve will repair wear surface. bad cap holes= that's another story.
  22. looking at pics 3 & 4 showing bottom view of seal cover ; notice the pultruded section on seal cover between bottom bolts. that must line up on the rear housing allowing oil to return back to rear. chances are change over on seal number /style . might be a match it up , silicone may replace the gasket. mine it would be sheet of gasket material and small ball pien hammer to make a new one, then LIGHT film of silicone. don't remember torque on castle nut. reuse the nut = tight as can be then line up holes for large cotter pin.
  23. 3 points off on instructions:: after removing the castle nut , you have to remove flange on rear splines !! THEB remove 5 mounting bolts . I wrote that way to see if my teacher was going to correct me.

  25. actually quite easy. might be off on some numbers ; it's been a while. remove 8 flange bolts holding u-joint /driveshaft. no need to separate u-joint .enough room in slip yoke to slide driveshaft out of way. plastic pail to set driveshaft on works, under flange is a 2 1/4 ? castle nut . remove cotter pin and nut. then remove 5 mounting bolts holding cover. seal should be a remove/ install from the inside. new seal/ gasket ;; be sure to mount cover properly having return drain on bottom as pictured. pay attention to front/back of seal when installing in cover.
