  1. got it now ; i didn't recognize the number , it's one of the later dryers
  2. i feel a set up coming . i'll fall for it ;; what is a AD-IP
  3. baskin robbins had air dryers that weren't worth crap. odd ball brand made of aluminum housing. didn't last long in new england salt/sand roads. changed them over to the AD-9's.
  4. is the truck going to have a dryer installed ? I remember the AD9 . tall skinny; trying brain cell for the other AD number : 5 maybe = short squatty , another item that went to the cheaper to exchange then rebuild.
  5. and I always thought you went to this massive library of truck books in your shop.. secrets out now 😃, the fleets i had anything to do with. we always disconnected the heater to air dryer for the warm months. to some dialectic grease and covered the terminals . why run the element in 80 degrees
  6. a lot more positives to the new format ;getting use to them. going to the forums by clicking the browse tab is great. glad this has the spell check; LOL
  7. when you say "can see where they disconnected the lines" are you referring to the lines to the air dryer which is no longer there ? the small (1/4 in ) line would go from the governor unloader port = center port between the two 5/16 mounting bolts or same center port on flat side of governor to the air dryer (service port ). discharge from compressor to air dryer= air dryer to wet side of air tank.
  8. never had much interest in the superliners when they first showed up trying to replace the R-models; as time went and seeing the round nose ch series the supers are super.
  9. don't remember when the spare rim( strapped behind the cab) became optional . can't recall what be came of the rims; some customers took them ; not all. Scovill manufacturing in wtby CT bought new R685st's and every truck had the rims and bottle jacks included well into the '70's.
  10. all the 81 series were the best. the truck kits did have a lug wrench (silver with hex on both ends and a 3/4 ? bar for the wrench, two red taillights, short lived bottle jack and the all important drivers manual. who would have guess those manuals would be worth so much today, I had so many; darn
  11. the pressure really depends on the usage; a single/ bobtail == why.is it to drive to the grocery store , truck show? every statement above is totally correct; but it all comes down to the individual purpose. tire says 80= try it ,,it will be too rough a ride .adjust with trial and error. yrs back I picked up a UPS style F-model non sleeper single axle from albany mack brought it to waterbury ct. wish some one talked tire pressure to me then !! it was like riding in the flintstone mobile . had I been old like now I'm sure my teeth would have fallen out.
  12. the accessory kit with each new truck had the 12 ton bottle jack included till early '70. it also contained two round (4in ?) lights for the back. long after each accy kit stopped the bottle jack and signals where factory installed using just two lights ;; same as today, the accy kits had the two lights.
  13. I would have to agree cab/chassis only;; no where in the order sheet do I see a 5th cost. comical the B873 is 150 lbs lighter yet $900,oo more
  14. one thing I noticed about tractor supply : NOT in any way saying a negative ; I'm a regular customer in the three around this area. their book section carries the = toy trucker & contractor also the Toy Farmer :: situation is the issues are always 2-3 months behind. no big deal for reading or vendor addresses. not to good if you are interested in auctions or shows. I would understand if the price was discounted ; it's not . great stores all the time for everything else. My city girl wife goes in and likes the stores; for her to like them THEY HAVE TO BE GOOD!!!LOL😄
  15. I have a question now that the birthday issue came up.. once you register , your on the list =understandable. i notice around '16-17 a lot of "birthdays" are log on /log off never to reappear or ask a question. pictures of younger woman. young age.. was there a time when this site was used as "a pick up location" ?? .i know many log on to ask a question : it's answered then they never show up again, I checked the birthday section regular specially when some one shows to be an old fart like me. LOL
  16. I know a guy had a 6-71 in a truck that was used for hauling process to new driveways .the eng leaked so bad putting oil on fresh material- he tied a plastic gal jug to the air box drain. had to empty regularly .LOL .
  17. seems asking the pos/neg ground question stirred up the cob webs in a few brains other then mine . interesting as always to read replies
  18. I used my FA hino to pull a ten ton gooseneck with two Minneapolis moline tractors from maine to CT, was stopped at the scale house . only thing inspector seemed to care about ( besides the two old farm tractors) was the "not for hire letters I put on . I was told a commercial vehicle not having -not for hire on it must have D O T number. state to state rules might change. or country to country. I have seen antique trucks having in a nice pinstripe form the " not for hire " on the sides. for a few $$ nice looking -not for hire lettering is cheaper then the harassment from law
  19. dash is "same book" different chapter. I was thinking of a round speedo set up with other gauges around it . couldn't say what vehicle had that style ;; possibly my '49 EE/EF, . for sake of conversation; wouldn't the amp gauge show backward charge when pos grd set to neg grd? would still work just read discharge when actually charging.
  20. I like class - work like that IS CLASS.🙂
  21. so the e-mail i got ;and never read was ligit ? something about Big MackTruck survey ' figured it for more scam and deleted it ; it's all good. THANK YOU to those who make this site a success with your time and effort . personally i can't stand change (I'm old and grumpy too LOL).in today's world change has to be or the scammers own you.
  22. wrapppin it up for tonight
  23. finally got to post office today with them. two boxes custom made 11lbs each. carried them across parking lot yesterday at post office only to find out it's a holiday (or whatever it's called now a days) and find PO closed.
  24. i take a liken to the ones made more then bought. i took the heat wrench to so many tools. heat/bend/ twist and grind. 3/4 wrench == heat/ bend /grind to access the inside compressor bolt old mack eng or the 9/16 same method to loosen the insde bolt on oil filler tube. and so many more. alot of DD wrenches bought.
