  1. the main down side to the alum brightener on tanks is it stays between the strap/ rubber and has a tendency to speed up the oxidation process. we all know how a beautiful tank is ruined under the holding straps. no one is going to loosen the straps to polish under neath. nice pictures and truck
  2. the lawyers writing the paper work have that figured out. wonder if there is a statue of limitation type clause? has to be at least 40yrs since last brockway : yes/no . by chance did you look at the DMM pictures? recognize it ?? sitting in southbury
  3. forgot ;; the valve covers themselves should be different also. "pregnant " hump where exhaust valve is noticeable from outside
  4. unlike a jacobs which is an add on with little changing a dynatard is totally different ; it is a built in. meaning the rockers are different , exhaust rockers have solenoid assy built in ;not just changing adjuster . when adjusting a dyna make sure you push down on the rocker to empty all oil (other way tighten adjust to compress oil out, then back off and process with adjustment) cam has to be right one
  5. that 3/4 drill laying on the floor brings back some memories. think I burned out waterbury Mack's at least twice. 50-60 fifth wheels mounted . all having 5/8 or 3/4 bolts depending on configuration.
  6. engine brakes act on same principle;; hold the exhaust valves open at compression stroke. actual hold back is from cyl not creating a power stroke. the noise is from the compression/ power in cyl going out the exhaust. a jacobs engine brake is much better then early dynatards. the jacobs is an add on - new exhaust adjusting screws and spacer. the dynatard is a built in from cam to pushrods and different rocker assy. first dynatard were junk. bent the exhaust push rods : many were changed over to the updated solid rods. oil pressure to me was more critical with the dynatards; that little rocker cyl did all the work. jacobs had it's down falls but fewer.
  7. ZEP always HAD good products. make sure you follow all the safety precautions when using the zep a lume. don't cut corners and do like someone I know (me ) thinking " i don't need long rubber chemical gloves" . took a long time for my finger nails to grow back . one of the most painful episodes of my life.
  8. all the alum bright I ever came in contact with was more of an alum cleaner. actually cleaned well but made the alum dull. then it was the polish and buffing wheels .
  9. based on the pictures and NOT defending anyone ; Mack might do better changing the adhesive they use to install the seal . seals don't look ripped apart as much as the door jams only show spots of adhesive suppose to keep them on. different glue and a little more of it
  10. ROCKY ROCKWELL ;;; you got the best of the best . He's my hero. we worked Mack together. then he did O&G . can't keep a good man down ;LOL he needs to be on his own . unfortunate situation with His wife .
  11. when you have those "down attitude days" just pull up the post from Matt on B73 restoration _start from the beginning reading and checking the pictures if they don't get you motivated nothing can, just sayin . keep telling yourself """ i can do that"
  12. when baskin robbins built the new freezer in southbury the welder they used (paul Yuotts) with stick rods welded all the refrigeration pipes 10-12in dia so close to the walls he used a mirror and bent the rods around to the back side of pipes. this was a huge freezer. not one leak. he was the one (in his spare time ) teaching me the T I G machine baskin Maintenace shop had.
  13. your all set then . now it's not the physical pressure but the mental pressure;; making the decision as to which way to continue on with the build. take time building the first one with the option of building the second.
  14. never the shut up . would rather drive down to NC (visit my sister) then stop by your shop and assist in engine build. think this has to go to the chat box before I'm (we) are in trouble.
  15. yours in frame blue paint from topic of engine painting. spent alot of time studying the differences in " new engines
  16. don't think i have a lot more to learn but there is a lot I hope to learn: 😁! especially about those under the exhaust injectors your picture shows. How did I do ;; brought the topic back to injectors :::LOL
  17. suggestions can be made by many;; the final answer is yours. how you are set up for HD work etc..one goal is "KEEP IT FUN". when it becomes a job, time for another hobby.
  18. on some early maxi can set ups not having clearance , the can is still push type but it's mounted inside the frame rails with through the frame arm linkage with as you say a steel rod going back to the service brake chamber and pulling it on . rods broke as mentioned chains installed.
  19. always wanted to learn the T I G welding process.
  20. Baskin had a brand new miller wire feed with the alum spool gun set up. that's a fantastic set up once you get the alum technic down pat. reefer trailers all alum inside, challenge not to get the Styrofoam insulation burning.
  21. "old time cummins diesel mechanic";; how old ?😃. anyone from cummins CT from hartford (brainard rd ?).don't know what's there now. haven't been that way in many years. an instructor there :Fred Munday think his name. service manager gray hair with beard , the shop foreman = shorter guy. one of them may have been named Ray. there was a crew of the best quality, the knowledge and personality. the good days. DD had bill black (bell Detroit).
  22. defiantly miss my welders. had 5 0nce. a lincoln 250 trailer mount. ; 2 -wall units 240 plug/ a 240 wire feed and a road service lincoln 115 . unlimited fun to fix/repair/ build anything. never liked the small lincoln. had it set up for gas not flux core. first job inside stainless steel milk tanker. any idea what it's like to haul all that stuff through top hatch! . first arc things went wrong. turned around the welder was on fire. haul all the sh-t back out. returned the welder for another. used my brother's 115 hobart today ;; don't like it. LOL
  23. got passed the paint topic in photos; now are you saying the injectors that everyone talks about here are UNDER the exhaust. I'll go out on a limb and say the engine has a jake. looking at the spacer under valve covers. too bad it's not possible for me to drive down to NC and watch/ assist in an eng rebuild. my sister lives in NC outside of Raleigh.
  24. paints not only a pride maker , it's helps 100 times over for checking / finding possible leaks. always painted every eng/ trans etc after a build. never a fan of the gold engine color vs gray ( or for us old bastar--s green). did an eng in silver , what a mistake =touch it and the silver rubbed off.
