  1. THANK YOU for the encouragement some times i tend to doubt my memory. so being a guide; would that be a top or bottom picture?
  2. how you pair it would greatly depend on how your going to use it. a show / play truck not as important. a daily used work truck needs to be much more specific. work truck the trans need to be compatible. can't have a wide range main coupled to a totally different aux. I found that out yrs ago making a "gotta have it tomorrow" duplex out of two different ratio mack 10 speeds
  3. basically your saying they used the "emergency" blow off valve to regulate pressure? i've heard trucks that constantly had the discharge blowing off, thought it was malfunctioning governor. interesting
  4. If they would only make more movies like that one again. no killing; violence, and you laugh hrs after seeing it .
  5. i just figured out how to enlarge the picture; now the confusion has set in. can see what seems to be another rectangular opening opposite end. on early single disc throw out assy didn't some have a 1/2hole in casting and the circled shiny shaft was a "guide " so the throw out bearing assy didn't spin rather slid back and forth. the picture is excellent ;;is it possible to get a picture of opposite end if this is a top picture??
  6. if it were top picture;; 1- wouldn't have that big picture ? 2- looking straight through shouldn't have bell housing casting opposite side, should be lower opening.3- you should be looking at the throw out fork top side ? , not the clamp bolt; yes/no . that top vent /inspection cover wasn't to long lasting . no clutch brake puts the discussion back to square one, a lag in gearing truck into gear is what i believe is situation. can't say oil on disc =looks clean by picture. easiest way for clarifications to ask ;; is that picture taken of top or bottom bellhousing ?🙃
  7. not to sure maybe it's me; seems this forum is going a little off topic AND I DIDN'TDO IT THIS TIME !!LOL looking back original question was asking torque specs; now question is engine swapping in a fire truck. is this a fire truck going for repower? modify air intake and leave tip turbine assy on. not for horsepower change but for a radical fire truck. also notice the fire truck is an allison trans.
  8. nope no C B - the throw out fork would have had a lower tab which pushed against the brake adjuster on lower trans plate
  9. older Macks the clutch was adjusted using exterior linkage/ clutch brake internal adjustment. the spicer clutch in most Macks just the opposite adjustment procedure; brake exterior adjust first then internal clutch adjust. you do not have a spicer clutch. If the clutch is working proper under load ,just doesn't allow for going into gear ; i would check the clutch brake adjustment in bell housing. loosen lock nut , turn out threaded bolt ONLY a little does alot.
  10. I was racking my brain cells trying to picture the two hose air cleaners and for sure there was a cable going to lower intake hose as you say for inclement weather intake. can't remember two separate filters in canister ;;small and large?
  11. I know there are some serious fire truck buffs on this site ; they chime in might have additional info. fire trucks are in a world of their own . Mack sent me to fire app school back in the '70's to learn up. waterbury Mack sold two fire trucks while I was there; an MB and an R model. both of which I hear are still around. not in full service; parade units etc.
  12. best part about the few sites such as this is the group that comprises such sites tend to be great people. one of the few enjoyments i had when able to have time off was to attend the old hit/ miss engine shows. the people there (many ole timers) not only had an unbelievable amount of knowledge (and stories) but also the willingness to share both, have to be careful here or i'll do my usual and go off topic. LOL also THANK YOU; it has been and continues to be a two way street in the knowledge /learning dept. you have taught me also.
  13. a little in site as something seemly so simple as " this is a fire truck helps. many times fire apparatus come under their own specs.
  14. possibly brakes were added later. do you know much history of the truck== who owned it previous or who may have changed parts not corresponding to axle tag.
  15. one of the many things in todays world is this E business. back then an engine was what it was ;;; 285/ 300/350etc. much like the cat excavators today vs year back. simple 325 (3 +quarter ) 345- and so on . todays world has all different designations. should have been around when this 4 valve stuff first showed up ..LOL . JOJO if the one's that "know it all " continue we are in trouble. life is a learning experience every day. I've learned so much (not all positive) since finding this site.
  16. are you sure there are two separate switches ??last MF 135 I worked on (many yrs ago) ;; a diesel didn't have two .. possibly then it was a MF35. neutral switch may be internal ; follow the wires . a clutch switch possibly external.
  17. changed the dryer AND the governor ;; did we check the line connecting the two . some systems will continue to cycle if air pressure is lost in leaking line. check complete line for chafing / hole etc.
  18. update :: 1/4 in line from governor to dryer NOT ::repeat NOT from compressor to dryer
  19. did you check unloader line from compressor to air dryer. possible 1/4 in line; if it has a leak, system will act erratic.
  20. any pictures of engine so we are all on "same page " in responses
  21. if you have to wait 20 +- seconds before trans will go into gear without grinding; i would look at the possibility the clutch brake ( if a single disc has one) isn't working. looking up from bottom on trans bellhousing through the 3x4 opening, the pilot shaft might have a 3 piece tiny clutch assembly known as a clutch brake. later versions were a one piece unit. a 3 piece consist of two fiber disc and one center steel plate. the steel plate usually shears off the two tabs connecting it to pilot shaft. on the bottom of trans bell housing is there an adjustable (3/4or 7/8???threaded stud sticking out????
  22. another post a while back showed removal of the small 90 degree brackets by mounting bolts. can't remember reason. if that gave additional adjustment .
  23. getting weak meaning it's slipping under load? the CL28 isn't a good reference to me ; many others on here can translate that number to a single or double disc. i would think it's a mack clutch not spicer or other brand. possibly lipe
  24. wish i spent more time yrs ago thinking more rubber to worry about !!! i'd be single still and NO i'm not your daddy.😁
  25. seems to me a challenge to take a tandem dump body and mount it to a single axle;; might be a little over hang.
