  1. that elephant foot was junk 2 years ago... But that is just my opinion.. I havent seen it all, but these pic's help
  2. Bob,,, I have no clue... I know that no matter how many jobs iv'e done, Out of nowhere here come a 'Monkey wrench' ... It's a WTF?? moment for me.. I had the block wokred over at a machine shop, and asked them to press the liners for me, because at the time I didnt have a liner press.. Buddy I don't know, but this weekend, when I have free time,, she's comin' out !!
  3. there is a dent on the back of the box that got my attention..
  4. That was why I came off as an A$$ at first... My gut told me that there are un-safe practices.... Inspecting those boxes is easy, as you know.. and now the story is that they are going to just fix that one... what about the other 3?? I hope 'C' takes a good look at all the info and opinions, and look around the shop with a keen educated eye.. Yes luck kept him upright, but I would like to add that he did good to not lose it also... jojo
  5. I appreciate you Glenn.. I knew about the .002" crush fit. The engine that I have is a '20 bolt'.. It just baffles me how that one NEW liner got pitted like that. There wasnt any rust, to indicate water was there. and it seemed like it was in line with where a piston ring was, while it was sitting. It did sit for a few months untouched, but I kept it covered and oiled.. Anyway, I may never know.. I do know that before I pull the liner, I will mark block with paint, where the pitting is, and see if there is a defect or bump or whatever, in the counterbore.. jojo
  6. yeah, X's 4... Gosh I hope they get it right and safe for who ever drives it again.. jojo
  7. Was the right amount of oil put back in? I really don't know how this could happen after a normal oil change.. did they try to rotate the engine with a bar or barring tool?
  8. If you end up having to re-build this engine, before you buy the kit,. Specify if you have a turbo or not, and head bolt count for the gasket kit. I'm sure there is a few other things to ask about. They may ask for the current piston part number on the piston.. no biggie, just be prepared.. jojo
  9. Just like Macks said.. it's that easy..
  10. I dont know about in-framing a B-Model.. or dropping the pan.. sorry bud... However,, there are a ton of guy's that do know.. jojo
  11. Mack E6 Diesel Inframe-Overhaul Engine Rebuild Kit From $1,718.98 to $2,002.98 Availability:
  12. Thank you Glenn. I was hoping I could do that... I use a hone on E-7/E-Tech's, to get them cleaned up.. I made a press with steel plates and Threaded rod's, and a short 12 ton bottle jack, and I have a piece of plastic silo liner that is 1/2" thick to put on top of the liner.. I've lost count of how many liners I pressed in with this rig. I was hoping I could use it instead of dry ice. I was concerned about the liner sticking half way in and then i have to pull it out and try again.. Jojo
  13. Truth is.... I have never been in this spot before.. I buffed it really good, and the pitting is below where the rings will ride, but I have no idea how long it will run with this small amount of pitting. It may run great for a long time.. and because it is an E-6.... I do not have real skills for installing the liner.. I heard about dry ice, but never done it. I was raised on E-7's... I have a liner press for those engines.... when you deep freeze the liner in dry ice, will it just drop in? I bet I would have to move quickly? of course i will have the block clean and ready to go.. jojo
  14. I dont know Mark... When I had the block done I asked them to press the liners in. They bought the liners... I would assume PAI, But I don't know, and I can't find out.. However, when I pull this liner, I may be able to see a stamping on it..
  15. Awesome !!!!
  16. Interesting thought on the pitting.. I am glad that I found it today, my plan was to get the heads on.. Now I have to buy a new liner, and piston rings.. I love losing money... But in the end,,, I need to make sure my engine is correct...
  17. Sorry, I was chatting with Bob.. Anyway, what do you think caused the pitting, i'm stumped...
  18. it cuts very well, and with ease...
  19. Hell, my counterbore cutter cost $3000.00
  20. it kicks butt !!! It's the only style I have ever used at the Mack dealership, so when I started building engines in my Road service, I bought one.. They are $1000.00, and worth every penny to me.. jojo
  21. I have a great liner puller, and I can always run a few beads of weld in it to shrink it.. The other 5 are fine, Phewwww....
  22. Hey 'C' If they put you in another truck with camel back's,, Just for kick's,, reach in to the top of the boxes and try to wiggle the upper pad's. and look to see if the rubber from the lower pad's is sticking out or barely visible.. If the uppers move, the lowers pad's are 'shot!'.. Just curious, are they going to replace your ruined underware?? jojo
  23. I used 320 emery cloth to clean it up, and it is actually a recess, pitted, somehow.. I'm afraid it will brake a ring.. I guess, my question is more about has this been seen before, and is it possible the counter bore has an issue? I did NOT install the liners, so I have no idea about counter bore condition.. I guess I will pull the piston out and check the rings.. Good to hear from you Bob... jojo
  24. Hey guy's.. I had this E-6 machined and new liners installed 2 years ago. I installed the cam and pistons a year and a half ago, then had to stop to do other engines for this customer. I had the engine on its stand, I kept it covered and lubed and every once in a while I would wipe it down and spray lube all over it and inside of it.. sometimes I would roll it over a bit.. So today I am back on it, and was cleaning the deck, and cylinders, when I found this.... I know I need to replace the liner, what gets me is how this happened, since I have kept up with it, and kept it clean an free of moisture..
  25. I just got new glasses 6 months ago.. . Too funny.. I decided to delete my opinionated posts, so as not to offend or look like an A$$.. those boxes are worn thin, and that suspension has been bad for years.. I have never seen a box brake like that on a truck that wasn't wrecked.. The best part is that no one was hurt by an out of control truck.. hats off the the driver for keeping it upright... Jojo
