  1. yes,,, there should have been codes for the RPM/TDC sensor... (Flywheel sensor) . at first I was looking at electrical/electronic issue. then i learned there was a flywheel housing failure. so i went on a tangent. I am back on earth, and think it is a electrical/electronic.. may be time to check the wires from the sensor to the EECU.. With a Fluke DVOM.. may be broken up-stream or shorted out. these engines can run on one or the other sensor, not very well but will run...
  2. good idea about the shims.. here in the states we get trained to "Replace" but a "Mechanic" can re-use and Fix it !! I have a hard time, at times, explaining that you can, "Fix It!" jojo
  3. good deal Rubber Duck.. I have a Chevy 400 that i 'cam'd-up' sittin in a tote.. nothing crazy, just a 'Comp' .49 lift Thumper.. When it was in my 1Ton, I could tear up the road, but the granny gear 4spd, and 4.56 rear end, was not a good set-up.. I tried to build a hopped up work truck ,, No F'n way.. so any way... it's in a crate waiting for another Chevy... I aint crap in the Hot Rod world, But I love 'em... Jojo
  4. Just curious,,,, did you ever get it fixed or a line on a replacement?? jojo
  5. When you use the impact gun to remove/install the yoke nut, do the best you can to hold the yoke with a homemade tool or your hand to keep the hammering of the gun from causing a clashing of the gears in the rear end.. do not rely on the ring and pinion to be the holder for the impact gun... jojo
  6. you pull the sensor out and barr the engine around till you see the marks,, you can pull the valve adjustment cover to clean the edge of the flywheel with emory cloth to expose the marks and use a paint pen to mark the tooth for an easy visual, through the sensor hole..
  7. i picked the 45 degree mark just becuase I like 45's... and it is at the end of the scale...
  8. now count 23 teeth from the right half tooth, you will be on the 45 degree mark.....
  9. NO,, theres a guide pin for the flywheel...
  10. Yes to All !!!! Thanks Brocky....I cant reproduce this 74 year old machine, but I can make it run the roads again... Locally, anyway..
  11. ok,, I was lost for a minute.. the marks didnt matter for the job you did, and for a valve adjustment they dont matter... I was posting reference points to check ring gear position..
  12. so you fixed Sledog's truck..? help me out here, im getting confused,.. sorry
  13. you lost me Onyx.... What did you put on wrong?
  14. OK, 'F'..... I'm waiting,,,,,, have yo developed an approach that can help Sledog? Really am glad you saw this post.. jojo
  15. 'F',,,, I'm glad you are here... and concerned about me and Onyx...
  16. Onyx and sledog, look at the picture of the flywheel.. the single paint mark is where the 45 degree hash mark is.. where the 2 paint marks are, is the 2 half cut teeth for the sensor to pick up.... if the 45 degree mark is NOT 23 teeth from the first tooth that comes around when barring the engine, the ring gear has slipped.. just saying..
  17. 'F'......... You too.... 😘
  18. Buddy, I aint there, so I am trying my best to understand his posts, and there was more added to the posting, so then I start asking more questions, or think of crazy ideas... besides, it is running on the cam sensor only, so there is where Im at.. we'll get it, The team will get this fixed for him.. as far as the degree marks,,,, they start at '0' and go to 45 degree's.. its on the same edge that the valve adjustment marks are...right before 1&6 marking.. '0' is true TDC... jojo
  19. Yes Onyx, it is.. there really is a lot to do, but my goal is to get it to where I can drive it around town here and there, then do more repairs, as needed.. I need to look into converting the generator into a 12 volt generator/alternator... I really dont want to put a modern Delco on there, because I want the old timey look... but I may have to if I cant afford it.. I'm Poo,,, jojo
  20. Like I said... going out on a limb.. there was an issue with flywheel housing and or flywheel.. Im giving you some free tests to do, to ensure it is not something that would be missed, even though it is a far off possibility.. Most guys start throwing 'Laptop reccomended' parts at it spending thousands of dollars for nothing.. I laid out a simple check that can be done in an hour.. then if its good, you rule it out and move to another test.. as far ass the hash marks,,, have you ever seen the edge of an e-tech flywheel? or done a proper valve adjustment?
  21. you got one hell of a half inch gun buddy...
  22. ok, im going out on a limb... is the sensor hole in the same spot? here is a way to check the ring gear position with it all together.. ..... there are 2 half teeth that the sensor reads. if the ring gear is in the right position, those half teeth will be number 23+ 24, counting from the tooth that is at the 45 degree mark on the flywheel. start counting on that tooth, mark it with paint. set the 45 degree mark in the center of the sensor hole, then bar the engine over ( flywheel) will turn clockwise) count the teeth as you go. when yo see the first half tooth, your count should be at 23.. I hope i was clear enough.. jojo
  23. who put the after market flywheel in, and did it come with the ring gear already installed?
  24. Hell Yeah !! O.D.
  25. I got a little bit more done to "Sanford" The brakes work good, and I squirted a little paint on the rims, and hardware.. next is to continue with the new wiring.. I found that box of plug wires in a cabinet the other day. I got them 3 years ago when I bought the contents of a private garage.. I like it when my junk has new parts I can use..
