Thanks Buddy... I try to respect the newer stuff.. I feel like some of the repair procedures are good for strengthening the brains of mechanics, I just wish it wasnt "Death By a Thousand Cut's" for the owners of these trucks.. They have enough to do to make a good living without the added Emissions crap, and poor parts qualiity.. I am sticking to what I know.. Some day, I hope to be one of those 'Old Timers' that is hard to find, who knows how to fix your Grandpa's Classic/Antique, RD/CL/CH/DM/CX.. and so on... that he left you in his 'will'... Kind'a like some of the guys that post here about a family owned truck that need's some love.. Am I making any sense?? Jojo

FJH, on 12/20, you posted your concern.. It sucks that you were right... Nothing personal .. Too Bad I dont have the 'Berries' to buy all the tools for cups and injectors, and offer a service... Seems to me that every other MP posting is cups and injectors.. Anyway, Happy New Year !!!

Here is the only REPTO book I have.. It is for E-7's, but I wonder if it has info for you.. Jojo

Unfortunately, I have No practical knowledge of REPTO's.. I have seen them and made a few repairs many years ago, But I have forgotten all of it.. I'm just glad that I have a Mack svc. manual on REPTO's,, in the case I have to do a repair, or post the info here.. P.M. me if you need me to send a picture of the book and its pages.. Jojo

the bulb sockets in RD's seem to fall out a lot after 10 years or so.. for a quick repair I have put a spot of RTV on the socket and pushed them back in to the little indicator light lense thingy's... and on the back of the speedo or tach.. RTV can be removed for bulb replacement..

I haven't seen his Ice Cream truck in any of the shows...... Yet..

Thanks for posting again.. I would like to know what other differences you find, if any. Plus it is good for future questions about this.. are you saying the REPTO housing is 4.5" longer measuring at the seem on the engine block? if so then the tranny is set back 4.5 inches more than your '01 RD? which may result in a drive shaft change.. jojo

one thing you can do is use your DVOM, and find a good ground on the cab, and check for continuity on all the pins in the J-3 plug.. that may point you towards a short to ground.. are you familiar with how to read the wire codes on the white wires? It is actually easy to do, and really helps when you are checking the wires at a distance from the VECU.. jojo

i know the tranny mounts are in the same spot on the Eatons,, just like Mack tranny's. The back boxes are different.. ...... RD 688-S/ 045719 Is a 2001 RD that i have worked on.. E-Tech with an 8LL.. This should be what you need to check and see if your tranny hangers are different.. No REPTO on this truck.. jojo

so when you turn the key to the ;on; position, that bulb doesnt light up during the self test?

Paul,,, hand built with wood at the site, as opposed to a manufactured house that is built in pieces inside a big wharehouse sized building.. Like how our trailer homes are built.. We also call these homes pre-fab houses.. kinda cool really... they are not subject to bad weather as they are being built..

The drive end that is in the block looks good.. the cable is what needs to be checked.. Is that the old cable in the picture? it comes from the back of the tach, through the firewall, and around the engine to that drive hub that you see.. jojo

They are just like a speedo drive on an older car or truck. push in and tighten the large knurled knob to hold it in place.. the end of the tach cable should have a keyed end that fits in the hole. it may be a square end and you put the correct plastic tip on it.. jojo

does the yellow lightning bolt come on too? Do you know how to get active codes using the cruise control?
