  1. not the newer ones, i was stating that they are easy check and repair... jojo
  2. My guess is the top cap on the king pin looks like a giant nut with 2 grease zerks? If so, just be sure its the king pins,, the style im talking about is actually a good set up, and I rarely ever replace them. they are not made the same way as Mack king pins. they are straight at the bottom like all others, but they have a roller bearing in the top and the pin is held 'UP' by a big nut under the top cap. they are easy to service if needed. I have, at times, taken the wheels off and pulled the top cap and bottom cap, (they just unscrew,) in order to inspect them for wear.. of course the simple way would be to jack it up and use a bar to lift up on the wheel.. jojo
  3. I started to take pictures with my phone in recent years.. it has helped me a few times. but marking the lines is my go to approach. I used too prick punch the fittings and the valve, so when i have it off on the bench, i can swap/replace the fittings with ease.. jojo
  4. thats a sweet looking truck. I would be proud to own that one.. i assume he said it was the last adjustment because it looked like there wasnt any more adjustment left? Just curious what he saw.. jojo
  5. yep, treadle valve is bad,,, not to hard to change, just pay attention to the plumbing.. mabey get small colored zip ties to mark the lines and fittings.. you got this, Jojo
  6. I think thickness would be the difference. I found that out on a 2 stroke Detroit last year, still an easy filter to get by using demensions if the part number is gone, jojo
  7. I vote every presidential election. Unfortunately, this last one was discouraging, because there was a lot of ballot fraud that was exposed, Georgia and Michigan for example... and I still wonder how 81,000,000.. were able to vote, especially when we were told that 2 particular 'populations' in our country were not given the 'equal opportunity and access to voting booths and ballots'.?? I expect you 'TJC' to educate me... Jojo
  8. This was back when the cam kit was complete, lifters, eup lifters, thrust washer, the 2 stupid studs for the A/C bracket, the book, i think a tube of Mack gray RTV, was there 12 EUP bolt's also? All in one box... maybe the RTV was handed out with each kit... Hell I forget.. jojo
  9. I was re arranging my book cabinet when I found these, I new I had them, just not this many,, hell I know I gave many of these away over the years.. It was a trip down 'Camshaft' memory lane... jojo
  10. so i guess he took the 2 u-joints apart at the steering box. one should have a cut out in the shaft so that the pinch bolt is put bac in the correct spot. the other has a groove all the way around for steering wheel aim.. those 2 u-joints are not to be phased, like a drive shaft. and really they cant be due to the cut out in the short shaft. and heck yeah, mark the parts before tear down. jojo
  11. napa sells the filters... screw Mack dealer's... jojo
  12. yes sir.. I have looked up service manuals recently, and for my Isuzu NPR. the 600 page book was 0ver $500.00. other books were over $1000.00 in 2 books,, anyway, I buy instant downloads, I got my Isuzu book for $40.00 put it on 2 cd's, and in my shop laptop.. I have a bunch of them, cummins, detroit, mack E-9 etc.. the Cat 3406 E book's (3 of them) are $100.00 ea. for the download... Cat always has to wave their d!ck.... anyway, cheap easy way to get the info... jojo
  13. ok,, done laughing,, too funny... if the steering shaft was pulled out of the slip yoke, it may have been put back 90 degrees off.. is the shaft a 4 spline shaft? if so, it may be 1/4 turn off... if it goes 'easy-hard-easy-hard' good chance im right... been there done that, probably will again... jojo
  14. I made some sticks with wooden dowels, and bought earth magnets and scuffed them the epoxied them to cut lenghts of dowels, then for extrac security, i put elec tape over them then around the tape to hold the overlapped tape. the magnets stayed glued, the tape is insurance that can be replaced with ease... $50.00 for all of it. $700.00 for lifter sticks on-line. of course these are not for E-6's, as you can easily hold the lifters through the right side. I miss the side covers... jojo
  15. yeah, the company i have used, air arcs the bosses where the bar goes through after slicing the bar in 3 pieces, then he welds 2 clamp plates to the bottom of the boss,'s. it has holes drilled through for bolts, 7/8" i think.. the clamps when done, are at the bottom, but the trucks I had done did not drag them through anything, and they held up good.. I only saw them after 3 years before I moved on. so I dont know about now, 3 years later.. jojo
  16. yes they do .. and even more on the heavier axles.. We used a hydraulic torque wrench. use a fork lift to hold the spring pack up-side down, and go for it.... I have used a torque multiplier a bunch of times..... Talk about ' row-row-row- your boat'... jojo
  17. Amen Brother.. I will use PAI anytime.. Iv'e done 3 engines and had several tranny's done. they are all doing great.. jojo
  18. hell, if you have mack build it, I bet $32,000.00 is going to be the final bill. jojo
  19. you reckon the V.E.B.C. is failing or maybe a bad oring in it?? jojo
  20. Yeah, I woke up.. I guess I hit my head really hard getting out from under a truck, my lights went out, and I guess I went to Shangri La while I was out... I think I'm back now... Jojo
  21. I do not understand why there is so much hate and anger towards Mr. Trump... It seemed to me that we were on a good path, and with another term, we would have been a much more independent country, and economically 'We the people' would have more of our hard earned money, whether it was from better tax laws, or lower cost's of living, or even both for some.. I wish he had this next 4 years to get it done.. No hatred here for our current President and his people, Yes I have called him bad names and laughed at him and his crew, I just have a lot of questions, and the 'head scratching' is causing a rash on my head... I Love our Country!!! jojo
  22. From what I understand.. Rich people and smart business people/owners.. use the tax lawss that are current for that tax year. then they are able to reduce their payout. However, the responsibilty of owning a big business huge, and at any given time a law suit or insurance claim can hurt really bad.. So to me if wealthy business owners can use the tax laws legally and save some money to pay the 'ambulance chasers' I say go for it!!! I would try to reduce my taxes any legal way possible if I could, but I cant... Oh well .... jojo
  23. I bet he can rattle the box rubbers by hand, and i like the idea of taking the end cap off, as well as jacking up on the trunnion bar. it would be good to have a helper run the jack while you look at the end of the trunnion. I have used a company call Carolina axle surgeons... I think you can just go to the 'web' and look up axle surgeons near you, and one will pop up.. the last one I had done was a few years ago, and it was $1500.00 parts and labor. all you have to do is remove the wheels and the springs and leave stands under the frame rails. they will cut ou the old bar and weld in a new one.. Of course if the 'A frame' is rusted through, well that changes everything.. Good luck Ricky.... jojo
  24. so true 'F'... I did a few clutches and lots of programming, but nothing internally. i have had the shift covers off a few times and saw the importance of lifting it 'Straight up' because of the tone wheels for the speed sensors... very delicate.. well, I will just watch and hopefully learn from this thread... Jojo
  25. no need to apologize.. This what we are here for.. I wont be much help at all because I have been away from M-Drives for 4 years, and the hell of it is..... I was sent to school for M-Drive and became a 'Master Tech' at Mack, but I don't know sh!t about them... aint that funny.... jojo
