no no no... its a plug... a human put it in wrong... next time you pull a front cover, remove it, clean it, dope it and put it back in,,,, 'tight'.. that's all....

to be clear, my grand parents came to N.Y.C. through Ellis island, from Italy.. Both my grandpa's, Mickey and Frank,,, fought in W.W.II. for us.. I still have grandpa Frank's Purple Heart, from his shot to his head, that he survived, obviously... I get sick over this freebie B.S. for so many reasons.. and the Biden KLAN... just makes it worse... God Bless America... jojo

it caps the line bored fuel return gallery. who knows, mabey they were going to make a straight 8 and thought they could add 2 cyl's to it... next time you pull and EUP.. look in the bore. you will see 4 holes. 2 on each side, over and under. those are the fuel galleries... jojo

So i'm watching my local Biden news channel,,, Now.... the welfare people are ordering thier freebies, on-line... The reporter literally said, that THEY may have alergies,, and oh, by the way... "ethnic preferences" on what food item's they would RATHER have... Really???? My grandparents had to WALK up to the the food bank, CHEESE and BREAD lines, and take what was given.. ( 1930's-40's) So, these slug's, are getting what they want for FREE,, But My wife goes to the store, and is buying store brands to save money.... and now they are talking about free health care for non-american's... I know I can switch the channel, but, I have to watch this B.S., because I can not beleive this B.S. is real... what the HELL???? jojo

Man I'm glad I got out of the Dealership when I did... I dont have patience for the B.S. in these new engines.. I would like to think that building them would create better mechanic's, but..... anyway... glad im away from Volvo's... jojo

Ceramic lifters in an early E-Tech
Joey Mack replied to Joey Mack's topic in Engine and Transmission
I was waiting for someone to stop me.... Hell I've done many of these engines, but that doesnt mean I know it ALL,, But, yes sir I was glad that I caught my BooBoo.. I drove the truck today... It purrred like a Dog... .. tomorrow it goes out to haul dirt... that will be the real test.. jojo -
steeler, I just found the hidden fuel plug loose on the E-Tech just built.. You nailed that one.. and yes the tools are priceless... jojo

its an ASET-IEGR... is it just slow to pull? I bet it has the power to get it done... and with a 13 spd, I dont see how it could be weak.. My guess it has 442:1 Mack rears. Has some one messed with the EECU programming? Macks are slow and deliberate... but they will pull hard... lets see what the other guy's say... jojo

wow, that is amazing.. before common rail came around, , I used a very long 3/8" extension that I welded together, and a swivel at the end with the barring tool on it wrapped in electrical tape to keep it in place plus a wrap of electrical tape around the extention where it goes right by the starter, so I dont arc off it.. and it goes all the way up front, so I can roll the engine and see the marks on the front of the cam.. I literally, stayed right there in one place, and I placed magnets on the engine to hold my feeler gauges and wrenches.. of course my set up is crude, but if my phone battery dies, I can still finish running the rack,,, jojo

I just did 2 Mack cams in the last 3 weeks.. I have an infrared temp gun. 475-500 on the gun.. not supposed to go past 500 degrees, but the temp gun is a little 'off'.. so 475-500, with the temp gun.. I have not warped a cam gear yet... I also don't think i will anyway. I use a medium sized, counter top airfryer toaster oven, that really only heats to about 500 degrees.. $65.00 at Wal-Mart.. (Black and Decker).... jojo

I dont know how to reduce the MB's in order to post.. and , by the way, I would build one with you for free, well, mabey for some free beer and chit-chat... jojo

Sir. i am not from from V.A. just live in Rowan county N.C. all good, jojo

I use homemade lifter sticks as well... I have good results.. Where I get Anal, is when I put new ceramic lifters in, and have to load a new cam.. I only do 2 lifters at a time, and slowly walk the cam in... Do you have the 'cam shoe' that makes this job a ton easier, and it also insures that you dont gouge the new cam bushings.. keep in touch on the cam job, myself and a few others will guide you.. please buy the cam shoe tool, number: J-41682... E-tech - ASET cam shoe.. jojo

Hell yeah!! Im going to crank my second one in a month, tomorrow... 🤞 jojo

I forgot to add this, the main bearing box is packaged very well, but they are not in order.. so just be sure to look at the tabs and galleries on the #7 and #4 bearings. you cant put them in wrong, but just make sure you match them up.. I know mack sets are in order, and of course you check them as well, and Mack part numbers match, but PAI uses different numbers.. once again, not complaining, just giving some info to those that may not be familiar.. jojo

Welcome aboard... I live in Rowan county.. Jojo

Hey Guy's... I'm just tossing some info out there, for those who are not familiar with PAI engine and Cam kits, and other kit's... So far I have have had success and great performance out of these kit's. I am building my 6th or 7th engine, with PAI parts Kit's. . So when you buy a kit, try to read the contents list real good... The only thing's I have found, is ... If you buy them 'on-line' you may get slightly different contents in back to back kits.. still better than Mack.. my examples are this: oil pumps dont always come with the pickup tube, (no big deal).. Pay attention to 2 pc. piston orientation.. yes you will be disassembling them, just be sure to look for the "Front" marking, easy to see.. they just assemble them and do not orient them.. This kit that I just used did not have the oilpan gasket and insulators, the one I bought a month ago did have them.. The cam kit I ordered was listed with ceramic lifters. I received steel lifters in the kit and was very happy about that.. This post is not to complain, it is to give some info for those that may be new to PAI kits, and the vendors... Jojo

have you tried to test the coolant for exhaust gasses? The last 2 times that , I saw this, it was cracked heads... sorry... not trying build a mountain... jojo

well the Defund the Police movement worked... here in Charlotte N.C. crime is up 20+ %, murders are up as well.. Guess what the new and upcoming business is????? Private security... No Sh!t.... so now, neighborhoods and local small business's are hiring private security company's... to bad we cant just arrest the criminals, and keep them behind bars, but of course that's racist.. .. I pray for the day that they actually call out the origination of our crime here, in my little part of the country.. anyway,,,,, time for bed... jojo

i forgot to add this,, you can put a 9/16" deep impact socket inside the end of the crank shaft. this will protect the threads from the jack screw on the puller.. I have an old crank bolt that I cut the head off of, and cut a slot into it, as well as drilling onto the center of it with a 1/4" bit, so that the puller jack screw has a good bite and wont walk away when cranking the jack screw.. jojo
-
on the dampener, remove the small bolts and the big one in the middle and use a bar puller to pull the whole thing off. then you can soak it or if you need too, gently heat the center ring of the pully, to get it off, then do the same for the dampener.. try to avoid denting or warping the dampener.. sorry, budd.. no magic here, just patience... jojo

I went through the same thing Dave.. when I went to Mack, the old timer there hated me for the first year until he realized what I was.. Then it was on.... He taught me as much as he could.. he was an E-6/ E-7 guy, and the E-tech was new back then.. So with his ethics and quality control, he taught me.... I took his teaching towards the E-Tech. He was a hardass, but He is by far a Man I will never forget.. Earl Harnden, from Scarborough Maine, We worked at Maine Mack in Portland Maine.. If he is still with us, he would be around 83... I miss him, and each engine I build, he is always on my mind... What would Earl tell me to do?? I still use homemade tools that he showed me how to make.. Jojo
-
yep, and he is causing a food shortage here in the U.S. WHY?? I guess because, somehow our country sells our farm land to China and other countries, for no good reason... You tell me?? jojo

since its an RD, i bet it works in the dirt, and there is a mess between the CAC and the radiator, as well as a clogged radiator, that may need to be boiled. or just buy a new radiator.. did you change the water pump housing because it was cavitated? was the coolant mostly water? when you pulled the thermostat was it hard to get apart and broke when it was apart? I bet you have a viscous fan clutch,,, is it weak? here's a crazy 'Q' has some done a valve adjustment right before it ran hot? it's an E-Tech, so there isnt a whole lot of outside issues that can raise engine temp.. Pretty basic engine.. jojo
