  1. LOL! Its not all that bad. The soap box is for everyone. You are free to give your opinion, not everyone will always agree. But that's okay, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one but no one wants to see yours . Preach away!
  2. NY needs this too. Just go one block from my house to Liberty Ave and there are over a hundred Mexicans waiting to be picked up around 6-7 am. Even the Home Depot's have a crowd of them. I once witnessed cops pull into a home depot parking lot, single out three of them and a crowd of about 20 more scattered into the parking lot in every direction. I just dont get why these ass holes in charge listen to immigrant rights activists who continioulsy lobby for more and more government support for ILLEGAL aliens. If we are giving them health care and a f**king drivers license why dont we just give them citizenship and while were at it free money. Whats the point of calling someone an illegal aliean or immigrant if law enforcement does nothing to apprehend them. They are breaking the law just by setting foot on our soil without permission to be here. Oh and if you want your blood to boil, I have a friend who works for the department of homeland security. He works for customs and immigration. He told me a story of how families coming over and claiming political asylum get a free ride. Those that are approved are given TEN THOUSAND (or less, depending) dollars per family member to start a new life here. He told me aChinese family of five applied, were approved and given 50,000 dollars. They most always pool that money and start a business (surprise! a Chinese restaurant in most cases). I thought he was full of crap but he swears up and down he has seen the paperwork himself. He was even getting pissed telling me this story to the point that he started yelling. He works for his country, has served for his country in Iraq and has to struggle to make ends meet. Then he sees 5 ya-hoo's come of a plane and handed 50 grand. Is that sick or what? I hate both the Rep's and the Dem's, all of them are lying crooks. But at least the republicans have a pair of balls once in a while. The Dems figured out a long time ago that they could gets lots and lots of votes from the minority and immigrant population by giving free handouts. Catastrophic move in my opinion.
  3. Ha! I remember the days when my father used to temper parts at home (We used to have a machine shop and my father was a metallurgical engineer). My mom was never crazy about it but it did the job.
  4. I keep hearing the iShift is amazing and reliable. Supposedly the best AMT out there, better than ZF, Scania and Fuller. Its pretty compact and I believe lighter than an Allison. Plus it can be paired up with the MP10 (Volvo has it behind their 700HP 2323 ft/lb European D16). If it can stand up to that kind of power then I imagine it is pretty robust.
  5. Real shame. Too bad it had to play out like that. So I am inclined to believe that if the V8 sold better, Mack would still be making them.
  6. Just to add some fuel to the fire. Here are two fine Mack's for sale. An awesome DM with an E9 and 65 rears and a sweet RM 6x6. Now look at the name of the sales company. http://www.truckpape...D=2441130&dlr=1 http://www.truckpape...D=2386360&dlr=1 Sigh....
  7. I don't think there is anything that says where the steering wheel has to be. Would be great if you bought it to Macungie. You would probably be the first to import an Australian Mackt to the USA.
  8. Think of a jinker as a dolly that is connected to the truck by a separate frame or the load itself. For example: Ever see the transport of long beams where they attach one end of the beam to the 5th wheel and then attach the other to a dolly? That dolly would be called a jinker in Australia. In the classic Australian sense it is as Jeff described, a cart or trailer that hauls logs or timber. Here is a picture of a horse drawn cart that is also called a jinker, possibly the origin of the word? Some, if not all modern jinkers in Australia self steer and the load is attached to a pivot point so the jinker can steer itself around tight turns. Here is a page from Drake Trailers Australia, they make an assortment of interesting heavy haul and specialty trailers.
  9. If you don't like the buyer or the future of your truck then tell them to keep looking. No law to stop you. But one thing I will say is many of those guys from 3rd world nations wont run them into the ground. They paid good money and they intend to keep the truck running and in decent shape. I saw a picture of a Volvo that had a cab fire but the owner kept running it. It was too precious to let it go. Mack is a very popular brand in many 3rd world nations. Even they know a good truck when they see one. I would rather they leave this country and keep on truckin in another instead of getting chopped up in the crusher and shipped to Korea and China. Too many great rigs have met that fate here because they were simply "old", taking up space or someone needed some quick cash.
  10. I think Canada is running 26 meter B doubles. Very recently too.
  11. I would love to bring an Atkinson 3800 over and restore it. This pictured sold me:
  12. Missed this one, Happy belated birthday Larry!
  13. That is news to me grant. I once stumbled upon a study made by a university out in the Midwest that made a convincing argument for using B doubles in the US as a more efficient method to haul freight. Doubt Freightliner would put the Argosy back into production but you never know, I for one wouldnt mind seeing more of them, they were good looking trucks. There are also a few Mercedes Actross 6x4 tractors running around, supposedly Daimler testing them for use here in the US as a more fuel efficient truck. Don't know much more.
  14. LOL! Good one.
  15. That is an awesome find for sure! V8, 12 speed AND air start! Congrats on your find.
  16. Thanks allot you guys! Yup, the big three-zero. I had a friend turn 30 a month ago and he was whining about how he isn't young any more. I told him to go tell his parents that line and see what they say.
  17. As sketchy as they are I would like to know, is it a "baby Mack" like the Metroliner, or something else? UD based?
  18. That's to try and keep the lawyers at bay. Treat everyone like a retard and when they hurt/kill themselves the manufacturer can say "LOOK, The sticker said not to put this wire in your mouth and plug it in! We warned the customer!" So yea blame the lawyers who have turned litigation into a huge cash cow. Another interesting story I read was a guy was using a table saw and injured himself. So now I am sure anyone here who is into carpentry/wood working has heard of that saw stop system that detects when flesh contacts the blade and rapidly drops the blade into the saw averting disaster. Well the inventor made lots of money licensing the system and it costs allot of money to license and manufacture a saw with the system. So back to the guy who injures himself, he sues the saw manufacturer because they did not include saw stop on their saw! His argument is technology exists that would have prevented his injury and the manufacturer was negligent and did not include it in his saw. Problem is his saw is a low end model, the manufacturer did offer a saw with saw stop, it just costs more money and he CHOSE not to buy it. The lawyers have been ruining this country for far to long.
  19. What is this baby 8 chassis you speak of? I would like to know more about it. Mack Australia has a truck that could handle the class 6/7 market called the Metroliner. Pretty much a regular Mack cab with a short hood and Cummins ISC or ISL engines. Short BBC, little over 105 inches.
  20. The other day at work we received a USB floppy disk drive. In the box was a thin manual that on the front said "Ploppy Disk Drive". Laughter followed but it was a sad sign of the times. Many of the Chinese manufactures do not have English translators on sight nor do they want to hire one. So they probably use a Chinese to English translation book/web site/software that generates the horrible "engrish" we see in many product manuals. Guy I know bought a cheap Chinese scooter that had a sticker under the on/off switch: The ON position read "To work nirmal" the OFF position read: "Flame out". Not only do they use bad grammar, wrong words/phrases but they also misspell words. Its funny and sad at the same time.
  21. Yup, Emission laws were a big issure for Mack. Even in the early 90's they were having trouble meeting them. In reality I believe the E9 could have met 1998 and 2002 and 2004 regulations. They would have had to switche to electronic injection and EGR. However, they would have had to redesign for 2007 and 2010. Edit: For some reason I replied to a 4 year old topic
  22. Lets hope Mack keeps outselling Volvo. I would love to see the look on the faces of those arrogent Sweed's in their board room when they see the numbers.
  23. Awesome! now we can charge all of those ... er ... Ameri...Japa....Euro.... I give up. We have no electric cars to charge. Who the hell will benefit from this except some slick contractor and his politician buddy gave then the green light.

Sheesh. Blocking your tires with a cell phone for a brake check is not good practice!
  25. Interesting set of photos! What is more interesting is the fact that those two 19" racks full of monitoring equipment could be replaced with a USB data aquisition box or two and a laptop
