  1. I was poking around some of my Mack photos the other day when I was reminded of an Australian Superliner that was said to have a 12 speed Mack transmission behind a 425HP 3406B. Has anyone here ever heard of this combination?
  2. You are considered an adult at the age of 18. With that being said you can be drafted for war or enter the service. So if your old enough to be sent to a battle field where you will kill and maim other humans and also risk death, your dam well old enough to vote and have your say. Nuff said Just because you are 18 does not mean you don't have a clue. There are plenty of people who are 30+ years old that will make worse choices than an 18 year old. Just because you are older does not necessarily mean you are more wise.
  3. Wow. Go International! They are even going to tap into the Chinese market with a JAC partnership. For once some money will flow backwards from China (if they don't collapse first). Even producing trucks in India using AMERICAN parts! There is still a bit of hope for this country.
  4. When I was a kid Machine shops and other big manufacturing plants littered New York City. My father had his first building down the block from Merrill Bothers in Maspeth and did work for them. After he moved his shop to Ozone Park (where we live) he expanded the machine shop portion and had lots of work. Ozone Industries had two blocks of buildings near us and did allot of work for the aerospace industry. Stock Drive and many others had work for us. Then the 90's rolled around and many of the big companies were gone by 2000. Merrill Brothers was bought out by Cooper Tool and have recently switched to overseas for production. The only clue that Ozone Industries ever existed is an old sign they hung on the abandoned LIRR el. Even we sold our Machine shop. I cried like a baby when they took the machines out. But when you have no work why keep going? I once nearly came to tears after looking through a 1928 Sweets Engineering catalog and realizing what an industrial powerhouse this country once was. Every state was filled with manufacturing plants of all kinds. Now we are a fragile near empty shell. If China ever takes a dump I hope this country realizes you only have true wealth when YOU produce goods. Not send blueprints to China or India.
  5. That is is the black communities biggest problem. For some strange reason they blindly follow anyone who is black and don't bother to do any fact checking. Its sad really. They also shun education and a strong work ethic in favor of a materialistic get rich quick fantasy that never pans out. Instead of listening to Al Sharpton and Jessie Jack(ass)son they should listen to Bill Cosby.
  6. Doubt you are going to fry the clutch if you are gentle with it. Are you going to load it or just bobtail around to shows? If bob-tailing you should not worry. If loaded just take your time and shift gently. A 285 has allot of Torque, something like 1050 ft/lbs Vs. the 237's 820 ft/lbs. So maybe sticking with a 237 will be better for the Quad and will make installation easier.
  7. In my opinion China is a bigger threat to the USA than the bogus terrorist boogeyman. But there is allot of evidence that China is cooking the books and their economy will most likely collapse. And boy what a collapse it will be, estimated to be 1000 times worse than Dubai. That will really screw up the worlds economy big time. Either way China is a threat to the entire world and its a shame we let it get this bad.
  8. Thats a big MAYBE. I say that because Emissions would have most likely killed the E9. And would Renault and Mack be able to come up with a replacement engine that could make 2007 and 2010? Who knows.
  9. Perfect prime mover for a Goldhofer! How many lines did they buy? Glad to hear its not sitting and rusting.
  10. True, but that is one hard looking pull. Without the proper axles or help from a pusher its no surprise the drive shaft let go. Either he is a company driver just doing what he was told or someone who bit off more than he could chew.
  11. John, thank you so much! What is Central doing with it as of now? Just sitting on it?
  12. Makes you wonder what goes through peoples minds. Obviously not much . At least have a pusher truck to help for cripes sake. Hey John, I bet your DM800 would yank that load with no problem.
  13. Its too bad about the weight laws. I have a friend who is going to school for Civil engineering and he says you have allot of book smart kids who know squat about transportation going into the field. Sad reality of things. Expecially since roads and bridges can be built to higher standards to take the weight and pounding but good luck getting anyone to fund this stuff. The weight law cut backs have allot to do with aging and decaying road infrastructure that cant handle the loads anymore. So they just f&%$ everyone in the a#$ so the DOT doesn't have to beg for money and the pin head pencil pushers get to keep their jobs. Its bull shit if you ask me. Anyways. Hey John, you have any other pictures of Central Jersey's DM800 with Planidrive rears? That would have been an awesome addition to Conforti's collection. Its a shame it sits in their yard collecting dust, would make a hell of a restoration project . I wonder if they would sell it to me (if I had the money that is )
  14. Agreed. They are better than porn.
  15. It is liberal. They always vote democrat when it comes time for elections.
  16. Heads up everyone! Someone on Hanks posted this annual sale Herd has for their products. There are a few Mack bumpers listed for Granites, Pinnacle and CH. Herd eBay sale
  17. Its the same crap here in the city. You can own a handgun but forget about a carry permit. There are NYS/NYC carry permits issued buts its easier to punch out God then it is to get one. Plus NY does not honor other out of state CCW permits. In NYS and I believe the city you don't need a License for a rifle or shotgun. But you do need a license for a hand gun, go figure. I do not own a hand gun so the few guns I have are legit (unlike my friend who keeps a loaded AK-47 next to his bed, assault ban is BS.) I do however want to apply for a permit in the future, I have two friends who are law enforcement so I would like to go to a range with them. Vermont, along with Alaska has some of the best gun laws. Go into a shop, buy gun, buy ammo, load gun and walk out of store with gun concealed. 100% legal! No license required for ownership or carry in Vermont. Assault weapons and Class 3 machine Gun transfers are also legal, no suppressors (silencers) though. We used to have a house up there, the state is beautiful.
  18. That is my guess. They must have switched suppliers and well we all know it goes to the lowest bidder. Probably China judging by the complete lack of quality.
  19. Hey, don't you dare speak such blasphemy here!
  20. Can we put all the politicians and the talking heads on this hypothetical boat too? Sounds like my kinda boat!
  21. I heavily doubt it. The auxiliary section that is air shifted uses air cylinders that are internal. There is no external mechanical connection that is able to be shifted with a stick or linkage. Welcome to the forum. And I dont want to sound mean but proper punctuation makes posts easier to read.
  22. So when I was at Macungie last year I bought a pair of Mack work boots at the factory store for a mere 20 bucks. I thought I got a good deal, turns out I was wrong. Aside from the nice box (picture of an RD logger, RW, MH R, CH) the boots are junk. I should have posted this months ago but I never got around to it. My friend also bought a pair and his pair was garbage as well. What happened to them? My friends pair lasted all of five days before the rubber sole completely ripped off when he took a step. On my pair they lasted slightly longer about two weeks before the sole on the left boot began to separate from the boot and then cracked. Its a shame Mack had their name put on garbage and marketed as foot wear.I had a pair of CAT boots that lasted me years.
  23. LOL, MORE CORRUPTION? Just goes to show you how ignorance and blind faith play a huge part in politics.
  24. Ah yes but its not hard to fool them. An electronic device such as a micro controller could be stealthily placed between the ECM and scanner plug. It can be programmed to allow normal diagnostics but any time a read is done to check for the speed limiter it would intercept the data from the ECU and then generate fake data to be sent to the scanner. A hidden switch could also be placed somewhere that puts the controller into an invisible mode so a dealer could accurately check and set the ECM and never know its there. This type of intercept and injection attack is well known in the computer world. So when officer baloney plugs his scanner in and your ECM is set to 75 he will get a read of 55 because the controller intercepts the code for 75 and instead sends him the code for 55. If you want an analogy I am sure there are a few guys my age here that played Nintendo or Sega with the game genie. The game genie gave you all sorts of advantages using the same trick. Those cryptic codes you entered in were memory addresses and the data that address contained. So for example the game genie intercepted the address that contains the number of lives you character had and put a much higher number in. Same goes for other data. I am sure someone could easily put one together. This is also how ECM's could be fooled and engines turned up, emissions turned off and all sorts of other fun stuff.
  25. Leaking compression perhaps?
