  1. You did more than most would! Keeping a watch on the situation is the best thing for now. I just hope they don't get scrapped or exported.
  2. Awesome! Its the Conforti DM800 with 80k rears and 14.00R24 rubber. I forget what it has for power, John will know. Just listened closer and yes it does have a V8! But I would like to know what it was rated at and what gear box is behind it.
  3. Best thing to do is go back with a camera and snap a picture or two of each truck and write down its specs. Then post them here along with the fellas phone number and name.
  4. Good idea on the nitrogen cylinder. Gas expansion is constant for a given temperature. Boyle's law states P*V=k or Pressure times volume equals a constant as long as the temperature is the same. As long as you use the same units for P and V the formula works. So you can mix PSI and Liters but you cannot mix two different volume or pressure measurements like gallons and liters or PSI and kPa. So lets use a standard 23.3x7 inch HP-60 industrial gas cylinder with an 11 Liter capacity filled with nitrogen at 2000 PSI. It has a constant of 11*2000 = 22000. Now most air starters have a 60 gallon surge tank which in liters in 227.12L. So we to divide 22000 by 227.12+11 (we add the 11 liters on the fill bottle because the pressure will balance out between the two) to get the pressure for the new volume which is a little over 92 PSI. Barely enough for a shot or two. So to fill a 60 gallon (227.12L) tank to 125 PSI you need to get the constant which is 28390 and divide it by the pressure of your fill tank (lets again use 2000 since its the standard pressure of an industrial high pressure cylinder). So that becomes 28390/2000 = 14.195 liters. So two cylinders could do the job but only for a few shots. Now lets try this with a 3000PSI dive cylinder filled with nitrogen. I don't know the exact capacity of diving cylinders but I did a quick search and turned up 12 liters. So lets do the math: 3000*12 = 36000 36000/(227.12+12) = 150.5 PSI (you would use a pressure regulator to regulate the gas from the fill cylinder!) So yes a 12L 3000 PSI Diving cylinder can fill a 60 gallon(227.12L) starter tank up to 150 PSI! And dont worry that I am using Nitrogen as an example, air is 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, 0.9% Argon and 0.1% for the rest. A mix of gas follows Boyle's law as well including air.
  5. LOL that sounds like a good workout! I wonder how long it would take to fill a 60gallon tank to 100+ psi
  6. Yes that is true but your not directly running the starter from the tires. You use the tires to fill the air surge tank for the starter and then let er rip. Just like jumping with batteries, your not starting the dead vehicle from the jump vehicles battery. Rather recharging the dead vehicles battery from the good one.
  7. What you are describing is actually called an alcohol injector. And alcohol evaporator is installed on the compressor intake. But since some compressors were/are plumbed from the intake manifold you need an alcohol injector.
  8. Ah yes. What we have here is an excellent example of Engrish! Many great examples here: http://www.engrish.com/
  9. It sure is nasty. Had a pipe freeze up and burst in one of our buildings. Worst part was it was a tenant who moved out a week ago, shut of his gas and didnt tell us he was gone until today. Thankfully after work me and my brother srtop by to check on the place and hear Niagara Falls. Stumble through the dark and ran for the water main and shut it off. It must have just burst too as there was less than 100 gallons of water to vacuum up (filled my 12gal wet-dry 8 times). Had two friends come and help, we tore the ceiling tiles and insulation down and cleand the place up. Took 2.5 hours and we had the place nearly dry. Treated my friends to dinner. Called the dumb tenant up who swears up and down he shut the main valves on the water meter and the rear building supply valve. Every valve was open, does he think we are stupid? Same thing happend least year when the idiot opens the rear building supply valve because our other tenant asked him to so he could use the hose (in the winter, WTF?). He never called to ask me if it was okay to open that valve, even after I told him not to open it because it was shut for the winter. Well the pipe bursts in the back and floods the rear section out. Thankfully the other tenant didn't have anything of real value in there at the time, he rents for the yard space So when is it going to be spring again?
  10. vulva I doubt it but would not be shocked if Meritor built them I think Meritor makes Volvo's axles as well. Meritor makes drive line components for just about every auto maker out there be it car or truck.
  11. Hey Rowdy, I read how they bypass the SCR systems in Europe. For Euro 5 SCR they run a bypass pipe around the catalyst with a butterfly valve. When the butterfly valve is open 80% of the exhaust flows strait through with 20% flowing through the catalyst. You cant 100% bypass the catalyst because according to the Euro 5 law any SCR errors mean the engine is polluting and it de-rates the engine, so in essence your stuck in limp home mode. So that 20% keeps the computer happy, prolongs the catalyst life and give you that strait pipe sound. On Euro 4 systems you can 100% bypass because there was no law at that time that called for de-rating. It could possibly be done here for DPF and DPF/SCR systems. But God help you if your caught by the EPA cops.
  12. Isn't that the picture of the DM800 that Advanced Salvage has for sale?
  13. Happy new years Larry! Yea its gets tough. Just make sure you have some food in your stomach next time. I have drank lethal amounts and been fine but thats after eating a whole gooey nasty domino's pizza. Although my first time drinking was a awful, couldn't even look at the stuff for a few months. The other night I polished off half a liter of Jager Miester and half bottle of Jack. Spaced it out over many hours though. Woke up fine. Just take your time and make sure you eat!
  14. Thanks for the link Rob. I forgot about this unit, I remember it was only something like 1500 and had a company name on the door. lol about the cup part. I am sure that bad boy rides like a Cadillac I found a picture on hanks site of a tri-axle Cruiseliner that might have been a tractor but now has a flatbed. Its in Maryland, not too far from a friends house. That might make a nice project, runs and drives just fine. I will call the owner this week to see what he wants for it.
  15. I think its a moisture separator. I remember Gearheadgirl posing a similar picture of a mystery component from her B model. Turns out its a moisture separator which was used in the days before air dryers. It should have three ports, an input, output and a moisture drain that might be a hose barb. Hers was located on the rear near the axle(s). If you decide to plumb an air dryer into the system, you can do away with this device (if description is correct).
  16. Too many years of use! My first computer was a Franklin, an Apple IIe clone. But i really started learning on an AT&T 8088 system and later strait to a 486. My father was always amused when he saw me playing on the computer, he said I knew more than he did. For years I have had a few computers around to experiment with things like other operating systems such as Windows server, Linux, BSD and recently Solaris (painful).
  17. I hear ya Rob. Its a pain but ultimatly needs to be done. I have done countless installs of windows, mainly for experimenting or building computers for friends/family. Once your used to it, its a breeze.
  18. Ugh, looks like you have one of the dreaded root-kits. Those are very nasty as they hide themselves deep within the system and choke off most of the systems function to prevent removal. The worst part is they tend to lock up the computer after only a few minutes of use or prevent you from opening anything in the control panel or delete infected files. They can sometimes be cleaned out, I did it twice on a XP system, failed on a Vista system. Could have been three different kinds of root-kit though, the Vista one being the nastiest kind. If you cant copy certain files because they are locked you could do it off line with a live Linux CD. An Ubuntu 9.04 CD will boot your computer without installing itself, it runs from memory. It has the ability to read and write FAT32 and NTFS Windows file systems. While your windows install is screwed as long as Linux is running instead of Windows the virus has zero effect BUT it could still be present in your backup. So you can dump everything to an external USB disk and unplug it. Then install windows, and keep running the update program until your fully patched with the latest Service packs (SP3 for XP and SP1 for Vista). Then install an antivirus program and update it. Then install a free anti-root kit removal program. Only after your system if fully protected do you plug that USB disk in and then immediately run full scans on it to ensure its clean. Only after you have completely cleaned out the disk can you safely copy your data back. A live Ubuntu Linux CD can be downloaded for free since Linux is free software. I will say that most media files are pretty safe from infection. PDF, MP3, AVI, MPG, MOV, ASF, WMA, WMV, TXT, DOC files are all media files that cant easily carry a virus payload but there have been some scares with MP3 and I believe PDF but those attack vectors have since been fixed. EXE files are the executable files that are the principal payload carriers in the Windows computer world. Avoid copying programs or installation files during your backup, they can be re downloaded from a trusted source and reinstalled later. Linux could also be an alternative but beware it cannot run windows software natively without WINE (windows compatibility software). And WINE is not perfect since the WINE team is writing windows compatibility from scratch by reverse engineering the windows API's. Brutal work. But Linux so far is free of Viruses because of its security model and relatively low user base. IT has lots and lots of software to allow you do do the same kind of work you enjoy on your computer. You could always give it a try from the Live CD if you can get someone to download an ISO image file and burn it to a CD.
  19. DO NOT use an unpatched XP. I have not had ANY problems with XP SP3 installs, even on "pirated" versions of the OS. Vista seems like it can really get screwed up worse than XP can when infected with malware. I have been able to clean out and restore badly infected XP systems, but the one time I tried to clean out a hosed Vista install, it was next to impossible. I had to reinstall Vista from scratch after backing up the users files with a live Linux CD and scanning them. Vista is a dog in some aspects, thankfully my install has been running fine for the past two years.
  20. Rob, I highly recommend installing XP and stay away from Vista. XP Pro was the best operating system to come out of Microsoft. XP home was a bit of a lame duck but compared to Vista is preferable. I have a windows 7 install running under VMware and was not all that impressed. Most people call it Vista with a new service pack and updated interface. XP isn't going to go anway anythime soon, updates will keep rolling out for quite some time.
  21. I just thought I would post a few official Ginaf videos of their trucks in action. Its interesting to see how they do things in Europe, lots of interesting technology. Ginaf designs their own suspension system that allows the rear axles to steer by actually turning the whole axle in the direction via hydraulics. The suspension can also level a truck on en even ground so you can safely raise the dump body without the risk of tipping over. Ginaf uses DAF cabs and engines. Awesome demo video of a dump truck. (no sound) Time laps of a Ginaf being assembled. [/mediaVideo of a demo show
  22. Hmmmmm, I believe the deal was you could still produce trucks with pre 07 as long as those engines were not produced after the 07 deadline. But once the pre '07 engines ran out then you had no choice but to buy a DPF engine. Its like how you can buy a glider kit and put pre emissions engines in them.
  23. Merry Christmas Herb, same to Bulldog Man. Hope he sorts out his computer problems.
  24. email isn't the best method, you are better off typing up a letter and sending it off.
  25. Paul, Thanks for the heads up. I liked that truck because it had a nice long wheel base and was a day cab Cruiseliner, a real rarity. Heavy spec F600?! I love the heavy spec monsters! I don't have that much money now but I would like to start looking for something. Older for sale forum? Is that from the MSN days?
