Thanks for the reply Rowdy. Some real good points. Didn't think of the registration, it would need plates/insurance. Just thought I would throw that crazy idea out there. I still wish I could find that Cruiseliner as I have the dough to buy it as of now. But getting it home would cost way more than the selling price. It was in great shape too with 80% rear tires and new floats on the front axle. Even had a power tower, might have been a bed truck or drilling rig. Ever since then I have thought about a method in which I can go and get the truck myself without spending a bundle or needing to store a big trailer.

Hey everyone, Well hopefully my new part time job turns full time which will give me a decent salary. With this money I am looking to buy a new set of wheels to replace the '95 Tahoe which is currently sitting in our yard. I am toying with the idea of a 3500 dually pickup, diesel powered and manual gear box. I was thinking Dodge-Cummins with 6spd and Jacobs exhaust brake The reason I ask about flat towing is I thought of a picture I saw a while back showing a gentleman flat towing a M39 5 ton 6x6 military truck (or maybe a M35 deuce 1/2?). Either way I was wondering if one could flat tow a heavy truck like a B model or other classic. I really am itching to get me a truck to restore. and I found one on TP a while back that was perfect, A long wheel base day cab Cruiseliner with the Superliner like grille. It had a blown Detroit 6v92, perfect tires and was only going for 1500 bucks. I didn't have the scratch or the means to get it home without paying through the nose. I almost cried when I saw it disappear from truck paper after I got my job in sept (scrapped or south of the border). I don't want that to happen again so I want to be ready when i find my next "love". I figure if I have my own vehicle, I can drive out to the truck, hook up and take off. Now I know some things can pose some serious problems. First off the brakes of the towing vehicle will be the only brakes. Second problem is most older trucks have poor tires that aren't road worthy. So your probably saying "Well duh! Go buy a goose neck trailer to go with your pickup." That is impossible for me as I have no room for one plus antique truck. A towbar could be stowed away most anywhere. The brakes problem could be solved with an air compressor on board the pickup with an air tank that has a pressure regulator to cut the pressure down (you want to help slow the truck, not lock the wheels). Then you could rig that air line directly to the trucks brakes and use a solenoid valve hooked to the brake lights or electric trailer brake wire. Sounds crazy but I know I can make it work. Is this a pipe dream? If so its back to the drawing board.

I joined Myspace to talk to my friend who was serving in Iraq. It was the only safe form of communication that his crazy control freak wife didn't have access to (he divorced her thankfully). I used it for a bit but lost interest in it. Now facebook is pretty interesting as you must enter in your real information which enables you to search for people. I have since re connected with old grade school friends and high school friends. People who I have not seen for years I was able to see for the first time. One of my old grade school friends still lives nearby and wants to meet up. Facebook doesn't allow you to turn your page into a customized cesspool and has no music players that start playing. Its pretty simple.

Fusion isnt going to be viable for a long long time. Every test reactor to date hasn't worked (produced net power) and future TEST reactor designs will go on line in 10 years (ITER in 2018). And we don't know of those will even work (they should). Fusion requires enormous amounts of power to start (your trying to ignite a small sun) and then a ton of power to confine the plasma via magnets in the tokamak. Funding was yanked because the results weren't able to justify pumping more money into what was looking like a dead end project. Solar is expensive but guess what? It works and can supplement daytime peak power demand. Good solar power systems will take the power from your panels and store it in batteries for use later when you get home from work. If those batteries are charged and you now have a surplus of power. The inverters feed that surplus power back into the grid. That would mean millions of homes are now small power stations and form a distributed power grid. The only problem so far is solar panels are incredibly expensive because of the enormous silicon crystals that have to be grown to make them. But alternatives are on the way. Hydrogen to me is a waste of time for automotive use. The amount of energy that has to be put in to produce and compress it is very wasteful. And most people dont know that most of today's commercially produced hydrogen comes from steam reforming of natural gas which produces CO2 as waste. So hydrogen still isn't clean unless we use renewable energy to produce it via electrolysis and compress it. Storage of hydrogen is also very difficult because of its low density which requires a heavy thick wall tank to hold the thousands of PSI so it can have the same energy capacity as a gasoline vehicle. BUT hydrogen could be useful in certain applications such as fuel synthesis from bios mass via the Fischer-Tropsch process. We could still continue to run on diesel or gasoline using that method but only use bio mass that has already absorbed carbon from the atmosphere. The Germans used it in WW2 to turn coal into fuel for their war effort so its nothing new. Nuclear fission is the way to go in terms of power generation. By using fast breeder reactors we can produce more fuel from unusable U-238 instead of refining U-235. Waste is an issue but there ways to deal with it. But the problem is politics which always pisses me off. I say let the engineers do the work and the politicians can go jump off a cliff. Nuclear is the future for serious power generation because you cant rely on solar and wind to operate large industrial plants 24/7 (if they arent moved to China first).

That isn't a 454. The middle exhaust ports are a dead giveaway, its a small block. I have seen these monsters before. Some guy even made his own caterpillar tracks instead of tires. I for one would like to see one of those Detroit 6V53's used to power a snow blower. It hasn't snowed in the city yet (well it did dut for 15 min and it turned to sleet). But the blower is gassed up and ready to go when it does.

Grant, for some reason my brain mixed up your tank dimensions. So 168 liters then? Little small for an air start tank, they are usually 227 liters and up. Those tank dimensions sound like it belongs right behind the fuel tanks along the frame rail.

Back in the day plenty of fleets ran 8V71's and 8V92's. They allowed Macks to integrate into fleets that had other Detroit powered vehicles, simplifies maintenance costs. Also some owners were engine loyal and wanted to stick with what they knew or liked. Even into the 90's you could get Cummins, CAT or Detroits in a CL. Today its either a red Volvo engine or nothing. The only engine I would ever care to see offered again is the E9. You just can beat that V8 sound.

As close to the starter as possible. I have seen them mounted behind the fuel tanks, in front of the fuel tank on the drivers side (right hand drive). Some companies here in the US have mounted a long small diameter tank vertically behind the cab( the now defunct CF comes to mind). Keep the hose short and you will have less problems.

Thats great news! This gives the Titan some air time. Hopefully the Titans do their job and prove to be tough and reliable trucks.

Hopefully this country will wake up and realize you have to work for a living and that you cant have every materialistic thing you want. Everyone wants to be a big shot making big money. You see people scoff at the very idea of hard work (i know a few). They live hand to mouth because they blew $400 on a stupid fancy cell phone, $800 on a big screen LCD TV and have to make payments on their fancy $35-40,000 car along with $1200 rent. Then these ass holes have the nerve to complain about illegal Mexicans and other immigrants looking for work. At least they are working! Too many people think they are above physical and other blue collar labor. Spoiled is the word I am looking for. Time to wake up.

Some valid points but the idea behind the CO2 greenhouse effect is being greatly accelerated by man. Hell some volcanos spew out hundreds of thousands of tons or even millions in a single eruption. It is also believed the massive asteroid that slammed earth set the entire planet on fire from massive flaming derbies that shot into space and fell back to earth. The CO2 in the atmosphere at that point was incredibly high but the earth sprang back. The thing about the green house effect is that its not going to one day just pop out and kill us all. It will take a very long time. Possibly 50-100 years for the full effect. The earth can and will heal itself. The green house effect isnt going to destroy the planet but it could drastically alter the climate in some areas. That could adversly effect fresh water supplies and farming which is what will kill us off. But with modern technology we could cope but some parts of the earth might/will face starvation which starts wars. So its not a bad idea to trim emissions but lets not kid ourselves that the lame measures taken today are doing anything.
