  1. wow. Just wow. I like beer, but not that much. Although it does represent where that beer is going to come out of 20 min after you drank it.
  2. Not 100% sure but I remember hearing it was rebuilt and sold off or bought and rebuilt.
  3. Sheesh what ever happened to the bi-metal mechanical blinkers? did we really need to over complicate something as simple as a blinker with a solid state blinker module? Damn I love technology but I hate it when its used as a complicated substitute for something simple.
  4. No so sure of that. The early Scania V8 used the same individual cylinder head setup like they do today. Mack used a four head setup from the get go on the 864 just like the E9. Scania might have helped Mack with the V8 but there is no hard evidence.
  5. Eye for an eye. That's the way it should be. Bravo Granny!
  6. They are pretty much a flat bed with a roof and curtains that either slide open or roll up. You secure the cargo like you would on a flat deck and it stays dry like in a van trailer. They are much stronger due to them being a flatbed using beams for the frame rather than using the multiple smaller beams as in a dry van trailer. Buy they are also heavier then a typical dry van trailer. You see plenty down under where the ability to load from the side is a must.
  7. Well I saw two episodes the other night at a friends house. It was an interesting show and good to see some Macks out in the bush hauling logs. So far they had a DM and RD Dumptrucks and an RD800 grappler and an RD800 Logging tractor. The thing that gets me is they have no newer Mack logging tractors, only Westernstar. Hopefully the Titan will push Mack back into the Logging biz. And with Mack Offering Planetary axles on The GU and TD it should help. They should also offer Steel hoods again.
  8. Wow thats good news! They can start to compete with Kenworth and Westernstar again in heavy spec trucks. They also need to add SISU and/or Meritor planetary axles. Steel Butterfly hoods should be an option again.
  9. Quick question, Is this on the original Mack Chassis or the Volvo cornerstone chassis?
  10. Always make sure the PTO is disengaged when driving kids! That happened on the Van Wyke by me some years ago. The dump body hit a pedestrian bridge that crossed the highway collapsing the span. It cam down and killed another motorist on the road. That was some mess.
  11. From the old macks r us website: B-43S - 45,000 GVW, END 673 150HP, 108" BBC, Chassis weight: 5,770 lbs front 8,020 lbs rear
  12. Grant I assume it has a Maxidyne 237 or 300 tip turbine? On my 673 the numbers are stamped on the front gear housing on top of where the injection pump mates to it. If its a V8 then someone else here would know. I hope this helps. Numbers are almost invisible but you can make out the EN part.
  13. Is that a 610HP E9 I hear?
  14. WOW, nice paint job! What make bumper is that?
  15. Allot of those B80's were provided by J Supor and Son, a heavy hauling and trucking outfit in New Jersey. You see their name in the credits at the end. I forget the other providers.
  16. The DM800 was a heavy spec truck so it most likely had 58-65 rears on 22 or 24 inch rubber. The 8 spoke rears I believe are good to 80,000 with 14.00R24 rubber, but then your looking at an over width truck. 20 inch rims would have been found on a DM600.
  17. Sorry, I was actually trying to convey how Volvo would look at the situation. But Volvo does put allot of safety engineering into their trucks. They pretty much set the standard for European truck safety. Typical Exec behavior, milk the company dry and bail out will millions before it tanks. Like I said; they don't give a shit about the company or product, just money. They have most likely never touched a truck let alone driven one. Hmmm I wonder who could buy them? Navistar? Every other maker has two brands. But then Mack would have to somehow switch to MAN/CAT engines. Maybe an investment firm. But then who would supply their engines? Hmmmm.... The problem is who would supply their engines? Scania would be a cool partner, the DS16 V8 would be a great engine for Mack. Would be sweet to hear a thumping V8 again. The DS16 is up to 620 HP and 2212 ft/lbs, put that in the Titan with an 18 speed. Would be sweet if they made a Mack-Scania Cabover using the Scania R cab. A Mack Topliner would be bitchin.
  18. The problem with modern corporate culture is it that the personal relationship between the company and customer has been severed. Many times the execs at the top do not have any prior experience or involvement with the business sector they are currently in control of. They just need to know one thing: how to make money. Profits increase company value which drives share prices up. That's about all there is to it for them. As long as the share holders are happy with increased dividends they (execs) don't care what the product/brand is or what it stands for. Volvo execs are in Sweden, practically on the other side of the world. You think they care what any of us think? All they know is Mack has a significant foot hold in the vocational market which complements their strong over the road sales. That equals $$$$$$ for them which increases their market share, which increses their company value and finally increases their disgustingly high salary/ bonous etc. They can make more money in a year then most of us put together will see in a life time. The following Mack attributes do not matter in a money sense: History - how many great structures, road sand cities have deen built on the back of bulldogs? But that does not really mean anything, as long as you have a product to sell you can ride that name. Driveline - Mack components dont sell as much as Volvo/Eaton/Meritor on a global scale. They could easily be cut out in the future and replaced with Volvo/3rd party components. Engine - Mack engines were once the best but the ASET showed us you cant always teach an old dog new tricks. Why reinvent the wheel when you already have modern engines ready to roll? Enter the MP series. Design - The Volvo cab is not only comfortable but built with the highest safety standards in mind. Which is better to sell and will decrease the likely hood of exposure to liability suits? Rumor has it when the Mayflower-Mack contract expires Volvo will replace the Mack cab with their own. At that point what is the difference between a Mack and Volvo besides the hood? Autocar anyone? Customer - A truck is a tool. A customer is a wallet. As long as they open their wallets to buy the tools for the job then money is being made. There are many people who arent that brand loyal, they just want a good product. Volvo and Mack products are known to be very Durable (contrary to what people here want to believe). They will sell reguardless. In the end this is all it boils down to.
  19. This is what gets me: "Petrucci would buy the 250,000-square-foot office compound at 2100 Mack Boulevard..." They have their own street and now they will not have it anymore. Very sad. What pisses me off is how Volvo is dragging Mack to THIER headquarters. Meanwhile Mack has been here long before Volvo. This goes to show you they have no real respect for the brand identity. Who gives a damn where Volvo is located?
  20. I cant sleep so I went looking for pictures of Mack buses. This is what I found: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bandit/1353082228/
  21. I have seen someone use one of those cone shaped performance intake filters hooked right on the tip turbine. That might be a problem because your going to suck in hot air from under the hood. But you could move the intake as close to the front or downward to get cooler air.
  22. Simple, you changed the display mode. In each topic there is a box at the upper right of the post called "options". Click that and toward the bottom you will see the display mode options. Select "standard" and you will be back to the normal viewing mode.
  23. So I finally got around to rotating, cropping and saving the individual pages from cover to cover and decided to make it into one big PDF. This near perfect condition Fruehauf trailer brochure was among my grandfathers stuff when we cleaned out his old room (he passed away Jan 2000). Well I had it sitting around and decided to scan it. There was some color but only the illustrations of the trailers were color. My Linux system was not properly initializing the scanner for color so only black and white for now. Looks sharp and very readable, no squinting unlike some scanned brochures which are shrank down and compressed to the brink of unreadable. Its 7.8 MB in size so if your on dial-up please be patient. If you want the original jpg's I made from the raw scanned data please message me, they are about 5.5MB total. Ok finally here is the link to my little page: http://tswoskowiak.googlepages.com/home If anyone wants to re-post the link on the ATHS forum please feel free to do so. Enjoy!
  24. Now that would be interesting to see! A tip turbine V8.Too bad the book is out of print, although used ones do exist. Could you post that picture Jeffro?
  25. The Renault AE Magnums did in fact come E9's in em. They even had electronics on them and were rated to 565 HP or there bouts. Here is video:
