  1. From the album: Stuff

This article is pretty much explaining the problems with the extra heat loads the 2007 engines are producing. The trucks in question are new Mack LE's.
  2. Glad you fixed the problem Bob.
  3. Doh! Thanks for the correction Rob.
  4. They were actually built by the White Motor Company under contract by Mack.
  5. Hello Phillip and welcome aboard. Where in Russia are you? One of my good friends is from Moscow.
  6. China is Americas new industrial park. Allot of companies moved their plants there for the oh so cheap labor. And what is worse some companies dump their manufacturing completely and just become and engineering firm. They design parts then send the blue prints to china for production. They get the parts in bulk and just box them. That is the worst method as the outsourced manufacturer can then use the cheapest materials and production methods, and lets not forget ignoring QA proceadures. The customer isnt watching so anything goes. Thats why we had poisonous pet food, lead painted toys and god only knows what else made it past the authorities. November is right around the corner, look up which candidate is all for putting a stop to this bull shit and cast your vote. Taxing the bastards who sell us out is the way to do it.
  7. Paul has a very good point. Allot is being done to erode our rights and freedoms in order to protect us from the evil terrorists or protecting our children. The bail out is a crime, if my business were to go under due to bad management will Uncle Sam bail me out? Nope. The banks should be able to go out of business just like any other business. Oh and the criminal CEO's got a total immunity in the second bail out bill that passed. That's why the first bill didn't pass, it would have enabled the CEO's to be held accountable. God forbid those bastards making more money in a year than all of us combined will see if a lifetime spend time behind bars. Oh and McCain wants to give everyone tax cuts, even the companies shipping our jobs over seas. Thanks to people like him we gave most of our manufacturing to a half communist country that abuses human rights, the environment, and has no respect for intellectual property. Companies in China are free to steal designs, copy them and then sell them. Why are we giving our business to them again? A little story, My friend who is now serving in Iraq with the Marines lost his job 2 weeks before he was deployed. He was contracted by Chase to maintain their check processing machines in Brooklyn. Now he has no job when he comes back to the US. But where did it go? Well the took all those massive machines appart and shipped them to India. So now trillions of dollers in checks will now be shipped to India where they will sort them for us. Isnt that great! So next time you want to whine about our jobs getting pissed away over seas you can thank people like McCain. Oh and if you wanted to know Obama is promising to take away tax breaks for comanies who move operations and manufactoring over seas. Plus his tax increase is for those who make more than $250,000 a year. People making $200,000 to $249,999 will not see a change and those making under $200,000 will see a tax break. McCain wants to give everyone tax breaks, even those theives making 500 MILLION a year. Why should they get a break? They have enough money to wipe with $100 bills and never go broke. Plus they even get immunity for nearly ruining our economy and lives. Screw them, let them pay more. I love this country and nothing pains me more then watching greed for money and power destroy it. I am not saying Obama is better then McCain or vice versa but please closely follow their policies. Dont buy into BS answers which are carefully crafted to evoke emotion which causes an unfortunate number of people to forget to use logic and common sence when voting. Also please dont use religion to influence your voting. Religion has too long been used as a tool by them to influence your decision by making non important issues like gay marrige or abortion sway the vote. You dont like abortion? Fine. Just dont get one and mind your own damn business about others who are. Gay marrige? If they want to get married let them. Who the hell are you to decide? And why do you even care? Did they directly hurt you? NO they didnt so just ignore them if you dont like them. Sorry for the rant but I am sick of people flaunting false patriotism and imposing their views as law. Government is here to serve and protect us. Not coddle us and lead us by the hand like children.
  8. The only thing about McCain I admire is his willingness to promote Nuclear power. Obama for some strange reason is against a super clean source power which will meet out current and future energy demand for tens of thousands of years! It will cut our need on foreign oil for electrical power and waste heat energy can be used for co-generation energy. If we reduce our need for coal we could convert it into diesel fuel or gasoline using the Fischer-Tropsch process using nuclear waste heat energy. We will have allot of opportunity if we scale up our Nuclear power production. I wont say who I am voting for, only that I hope who ever wins fix the serious problems we have.
  9. I would first check for leaks in the intake system.
  10. Uh-oh you are asking for trouble here Barry Its a pick between the lesser of the evils.
  11. I believe 9.0 is the minimum for that size. 8.25 might work but not sure. Maybe email the tire maker and see what they say. Accuride and Alcoa both make aluminum 9.0 rims, they shouldn't be hard to find.
  12. Unfortunately only 22.5's come in 315/80. 24.5 is kind of an obsolete rim size as it only survives here in the USA and Canada. If you notice there are only a few 24.5 sizes with 12R24.5 or 305/75R24.5 being the highest capacity 24.5's. None are wide base or can handle more then 8200 pounds single. The rest of the world uses 22.5 exclusively with 12.00R24 in a few rare cases.
  13. Looks like the last of Ford's die hard fans will be disappointed. Sad to see them go but that's the way the market works. I know they might not have been the best truck make out there but I sure liked the way they looked, along with their older Ford models too.
  14. Someone might have mounted the valve upside down. Normal means supply air, emergency means release the air which would apply the trailers spring brakes.
  15. Ben, Scania and Mack go as far back as the 40's or 50's. Mack acquired the rights to use the open combustion chamber design from Scania for use in the 673 verses the Lanova pre-combustion chamber design of the 672. Now as for the V8 Scania might have influenced Mack or vice versa, not sure. But the two engines have always been very different in the fact that Scania uses eight individual cylinder heads versus Mack's four. The 865/866 evolved from the 864 just like the 676 Maxidyne evolved from the 673. They are very similar in design. Scania kept the 14 liter until about 1990 or so until they switched to the 16 liter with the new Streamliner cab and bumped the power beyond the 14's 500HP. Mack switch to 16 liters at the end of the 70s with the 400HP ENDT1000 later renamed to the E9. Its a shame Mack did not push the V8 more and they should have bumped the power like they did in Europe (565 HP) and Australia (610 HP. They could have then gave CAT and Cummins a run for their money but emissions were their downfall. I guess the engineering team wasnt up to snuff. Sad really when you think of how powerful the 237 was for its time (and in a way still is). Mack was really a leader in engine technology at one point.
  16. Good stuff! I was wrong about the tractor protection valve. After some research I found out that when the tractor protection valve is in the normal position you should have air spitting out of the emergency/supply line. That will release the trailer brakes. It can be plumbed to work with the tractor brakes so the tractor brakes park the whole rig or it can be plumbed by itself to operate regardless if the tractor brakes are set of not.
  17. I believe when in the emergency position you should have air coming out the emergency/supply line (nowadays the red line). You have the old system which unfortunately I have no diagrams for. I will dig around for some information and get back to you. In the mean time if anyone has anything to add please do .
  18. ARRRGH! Another good show missed. Well I had a good excuse, I was in Florida for my brothers graduation.
  19. Yup Queens. I do some mechanic work on the side, usually light stuff for friends. Mostly very very busy so its tough for me to come out and help. I was helping out another guy from Long Island but I only got out to him once. I have no problem helping a fellow Mack enthusiast when I can but time and work are a problem. Herb, that sounds plausible but he has the very same problem as he did before he replaced the valve so there is air leaking into the lines from somewhere else. Michael has a very good point about air leaking between the service and spring chambers. Never thought of that one. Without working knowledge of the air system it might be a pain to find the leak. Trace that line Bob and note what it feeds. From there we can help. And you still need to tell us if you have spring type parking brakes that are activated with a dash valve.
