  1. Waaaaay back in the past they were normal. I don't know if they were for running in those states or for tax purpose. But after the plates came individual state fuel tax stickers. Wasn't uncommon to see trucks with dozens of stickers all over the truck. Now we have a single IFTA sticker and you calculate the mileage of your truck and fuel bought and you pay a single bill that gets divided up to the states.
  2. Ok first thing is Mack made their own engine brake called the Dynatard which is different than the Jake brake. But you could pick if you wanted a Jake brake or a Dynatard. The Jake brake uses a valve cover spacer kit which is easily noticeable. They both operate on the same principal of compression release. When the engine brake is activated it cuts the fuel and alters the valve train timing by opening the exhaust valves at top dead center of the compression stroke. Compression requires power so the engine absorbs power compressing air. The wiring is simple, you have three or four switches. -The first dash mounted switch is the on/off switch. -The second dash mounted switch is sometimes not present and it is the hi/low or sometimes a hi/med/low switch. It selects either 3 or all six cylinders or 2, 4 or 6 cylinders. -There is a clutch switch so if you press the clutch it turns the brake off to prevent stalling the engine -Then the throttle switch which actives the brake when you take your foot off the accelerator. Here is a pretty good diagram from a book on Google books Looks like a good book too. Nearly the whole book is there on Google.
  3. There is a switch on the transmission for the reverse lights. When you shift into reverse it is turned on. I think its on the passenger side near the top plate.
  4. It can be rebuilt. You have to most likely replace the head gasket and rings. Once you know the model you can then order a rebuild kit. Its probably a Bendix thu-flow 500 or 700. There is a tag right on the side of the compressor.
  5. Hey Werk, You should post those diagrams in the wiki section.
  6. I have been looking into the setup as well and I have seen two different methods. First I have seen a gear box that splits the steering column into two steering gear boxes. The second setup is a little hard to describe but I can try to draw it up in using my leet paint skillz, lol: The front steering box is setup normally but the pitman extends upward as well. There is a link bar that runs to the second steering box. Now you can see three black bars that run between the three points of connection on the second steering box. They represent the distances between the steering gear shaft and the link bar(A) and the pitman arm and steering gear shaft (. The distance A is the same on both the front and rear pitman arms. But B is shorter than A on the rear pitman arm. This provides a reduction in the steering angle. The second steering box is probably a slave box that has two hydraulic lines running to the front box to provide assistance.
  7. Correct. When you press down on the brake pedal there shouldn't be any leaks or air coming out of anything. Only when you take your foot off or back off the brake should air be exhausted from the foot valve, quick release valves and relay valves.
  8. Here is a bendix air brake diagram. Its a newer diagram for post 1980 trucks with dual air circuits. If you press down and it blows air out then something is wrong. Is it a broken or leaking hose? Or is it an open port? There is an open port that is the exhaust port. When you take your foot off the brake pedal it exhausts the air pressure out of the system.
  9. There are two different alcohol setups. The evaporator sends alcohol vapor into the compressor intake. The alcohol reservoir should be somewhere near the compressor as it has to be connected to the compressor intake. I never seen one so I don't know what it looks like. An alcohol injector is plumbed between the air dryer and "wet" tank. So an alcohol injector will be very close to the air dryer. It has a plastic reservoir mounted atop a metal body with a screw on cap at the top. It has three air lines running to it: one is a supply port from the dryer, one is a delivery port to the wet tank and one is a control port that is tee'd off the air dryer purge control line.
  10. Raydan licenced the design to Meritor to produce suspensions up to 52,000 pounds. So if its 52k and below its made by Meritor. If its above 52K Raydan makes it. But Raydan retains all rights to the design and name. They also make the twinsteer airlink as well as front spring suspension.
  11. Most likely the truck had a 711 diesel and later someone swapped it with a 237. The 10 speed duplex has 2 sticks the compound aka splitter stick is on the right and the main on the left. Old two sticks can be used behind the Maxidyne but you have be gentile when using it. Too many popped clutches, lugging and other abuse will surely lead to failure. But since you have a light single axle dump truck, it will be easy to treat that tranny gently and keep it going. And as for shifting; yes its like a super 10 or a truck with a 2speed axle. 1st lo, hi - 2nd lo, hi etc...
  12. Trent, I Have to find the original post where I found this picture as the date was also given. Yea it is sad. But what can ya do.
  13. Looks like Meritor is bringing planetary hub reduction axles to North America. Now from what I hear the axles are actually Volvo axles. Volvo sold Meritor the plant and Meritor handles the manufacturing much like how Mack has Meritor cast axles. How much do you wanna bet they will become an option for Mack trucks? Also I am curious as to what mechanical suspension they will offer, M- *ahhem* T-Ride most likely. Will be a great option for the guys running in the dirt allot, heavy haulers too.
  14. Fresh from the factory. This was posted over at Hank's.
  15. LOL the Pete 372 "football helmet" cabover. I seen a nice red daycab Lonestar pulling a cattle trailer. Cant find the picture but it sure looks sharp.
  16. From the album: Stuff

Meritors new on highway planetary hub reduction axles for the North American market. 58-70K tandems and I would suppose up to 105K tridems.
  17. Hey Barry, Have you checked these guys out? http://www.minimizer.com/mudflaps.htm They have multiple color options and no minimal order. The only problem is they are printed and not moulded. Might be a decent alternative.
  18. <br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Thats probably one of the major hurdles in getting a bid on this lot. I mean not only do you have a bunch or trucks but 2 containers and misc stuff all over the lot is a real challenge to gather up and organize on a truck. I even though a bit of how long it would take to move and I figure you would need a heavy duty roll back for the containers, drop deck to haul the trucks and a crane to load them or one by one on a roll back. Could take days to 2 weeks and about as much money as you would pay to move it all unless you had your own equipment.
  19. I just want to know what will happen to all that stuff if no one bids for it.
  20. I must say that Granite is a really damn good looking truck. How many gallons and who made the the body?
  21. Do you mean THIS AUCTION? I near fell over when I saw how much stuff is there. for 30 large you can get tons and I do mean TONS of Mack parts and trucks. Wish I won the lotto last week lol. I cant get over how much stuff your getting. Would be good investment if you wanted to get into the truck restoration business.
  22. Hmmm did you try and paste the link you want into your web browers URL bar and try to load it? there might be an error in the link you want posted. If anyhting paste/type the URL directly into your post and we will see if we can load it.
  23. LulZ "Im in ur house, terrizin ur kidz"
  24. Rob, Your right I did mean that but I should have been more clear and said an ignition switched feed.
