Thankfully Mayor Bloomberg's idiotic plan to charge vehicles going into Manhattan wont fly. Charging the trucks that bring the freight and supplies into the city more then the passenger cars is ludicrous. Let them take the damn subway or a taxi, we have a huge mass transit system, use it! Too many a** holes want to cruise around in their BMW's, Mercedes etc. Trains and taxis are beneath them. Another problem is allot of traffic is from long island to New Jersey from the midtown tunnel to the Lincoln tunnel and the Manhattan bridge to the Holland tunnel. We do allot of business in Manhattan and we are gonna have to pass that fee on to the customer which wont be a problem but damn another bill to pay. The thing that gets me is they are going to bill you by a camera system that will get this cost something like 275 million for the INITIAL implementation. Bloomberg is just trying to polish his political image at our cost he doesn't even get paid by the city, he gets a paycheck for $0. He is a billionaire who is playing politics and needs some job experience on his resume. Screw him.

How Do I Properly Remove The Hub Seal?
ThaddeusW replied to ThaddeusW's topic in Driveline and Suspension
Thanks for that tip! I managed to get it out using a 3 jaw puller. I thought it was reusable but even the service guide on eatons website says to throw it out. Its all bent up from the puller so its trash now. The funny thing is I cleaned the bearings off and found that the outer bearing cage is dented and the roller next to the dent didn't turn as freely. I never dropped it or hit it with anything when I removed it... strange. I just bent the cage out a little and its fine now. Oh my next question is when reassembling the hub onto the axle do I use grease on the wheel bearings or just soak everything with gear oil? And how long should you go before you change the axle fluid? The truck only has 33k on it but its a 1988 so I guess its almost been 20 years since the fluid was first put in there. Thats a great tip Herb, putting the hub into a wheel to hold it. Would have been easier then the milk crate -
Hey guys. Well the wheels are off and the I took off the entire hub assembly to change the rotor on my GMC. Well my latest problem is removing the hub seal without destroying it. It wont budge and I don't want to melt/burn it with a torch (got a pretty good MAPP torch). Any ideas? The seal has the red arrow pointing to it, the bearing has the blue arrow pointing to it.

2007 Macungie
ThaddeusW replied to MACKTRUCKS4's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Unfortunatly I came very late saturday around 3:30 pm. I had two extra people call me last minute wanting to come along, one living out on long island. But it was well worth it. One of my favorites was the tree movers DM800 and another DM800 dump. My two other friends who know nothing about trucks were actually pleased with the show and were also dissapointed that we arrived late. My friend ken sat in a real truck for the first time, the blue Granite Mack had at the show and was suprised how comfortable it was (he loved the air seat). I have pictures but they are on my friends camera. Oh and one more sweet toy was the red Kenworth pickup. A lowered Kenworth W900 with a Silver 8V92 and 10 speed with air suspension. Damn I want to do that with a superliner . -
Arrgh the one thing I dont have.... a torch. Hmmm This is definatly the straw that broke the camels back. I need a torch outfit.

Hey guys, I am having a problem getting the rims off the rear axle of my GMC and I need some advice. How exactly do you get the dual tires appart? The both wheels are stuck and they are hub piloted which leads me to believe they are rusted around the hub. I have tried to make a wedge out of a bar and hammer it on both sides but no dice. Also make a smaller long wedge to use in my air hammer and again it didnt budge. My next trick is to try and make a puller out of two chains and a 3 ton jack. Rest the jack against the drive plate and using 2 chains hooked to the hand holes try to force it off. I just dont want to make a bigger mess then I already have to deal with (brakes caught fire). Any ideas?

Please post pictures of the MIR's! I have seen one on an Australian truck website(truckhub). Looks like an ML with an F model grille.

I would suggest looking around the intake manifold or possibly around the discharge pipe from the turbo. I dont think your will see a big jump in power and I dont think this is a healthy way to turn the power up. And not to be rude but I am guessing that English is not your first language. Sometimes its hard for us to understand you.

Ahh you have an L model fire truck correct? Hmmm well I was browsing the other thread and It looks like you want a show/cruising truck only. As for a strait drop in replacement, a 237 and 5 or 6 speed should bolt right up. Lots of torque good on fuel and the 5/6 speed will make shifting easy. If you want to cruise from show to show with an air stream then this is a great way to go as you have a more modern engine thats easy to service and its still a Mack. I was looking at a 1944 mack LFSW that had a 237 and a 5 or 6 speed swapped in for power. Click on my name and go to my gallery and you will see the LF with a 237. As to why you should take the transmission out is because the old mack thermodyne engines did not make allot of torque compared to the maxidynes. The 2 stick transmission behind a 237 can work, but you have to be careful not to cause any shock from letting off the clutch too quick or improper shifts. Otherwise you end up with a destroyed gearbox that cant be rebuilt (or it can be for a kings ransom) Also the 237's power curve wont nicely match up to the 2 stick and you wind up not being able to keep the engine in its sweet spot. You also will have to change the bell housing on the 237 to get the 2 stick to bolt up which I hear is a pain because the oil pan gets in the way unless you change/modify that too. so in conclusion the easy route is to stay Mack with a 237 and a 5 or 6 speed. You could put in a smaller cummins B series that will get great fuel but you will have to fabricate new motor mounts and possibly new transmission mounts. Its up to you but I say keep it as Mack as possible. Oh and dont throw that 2 stick out! They dont make em any more and the more we have regardless of the condition the better. So be sure it finds a good home. Maybe the 707 has a few good parts on it like water and oil pumps as well as fuel system parts. Make sure you list that engine for parts and see if anyone wants to pick at it.

Steve, The 465, 511, 673, 711 diesels were all inline 6 cylinder engines. The END 864 was a V8 but parts are very very hard to find, especially for the twin turbo model. The 673 thermodyne is a good replacement along with the 711 diesel, but parts arent so easy (or impossible) to find new. But plenty of junk yard motors and parts can be had easily. The alternative is the Maxidyne 237HP which is almost a drop in replacement. But you can destroy the old twin stick tranny with its high torque. Better off putting a 5 or 6 speed mack tranny behind it as they are relitivly inexpensive.

Found this on eBay: MACK TRUCK PARTS LOT Semi truck tractor trailer full NR Seriously someone should get this thing. They have a bunch of new air-air aftercoolers for the old maxidynes. Who knows what else. Hey Barry, maybe watts would be interested in this load. Its not too far at all, only in Riverside Jersey just outside Philly. Would be a sin if it went to the scrap heap.

Your english is near perfect. Welcome abord! I was always curious about the Euro specd Macks. What was difference besides the 24 volt electrical system?

Mack Sleepers Still Removable?
ThaddeusW replied to GearheadGrrrl's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I asked Barry this question and he said they made a cab closure kit but he didn't know if they were still available. -
I must say the drop light was aptly named and well explained in this little write up . They need to make one that uses LED's potted in some epoxy, but then the light bulb industy would go broke

Here is a great PDF with all the models and engine specs from oldmacksrus: http://www.oldmacksrus.com/Adobe_Pdf's...0%20Engines.pdf The ENDT/LT 673 @205 HP had a torque rating of 560/590 ft-lbs from 1400-1600 RPM.

What year was the E7 introduced and what year did it get electronics? What was the difference between the E7 and E6? Also what was the last year for the E9 here in the states?

Always important to make sure your engine shutdown lever works. That and a backup fuel shutoff valve near the pump or tank.

Hmm didn't know that. Well rockwell was bought up by meritor and they did cast top loaders and were used on the m800 5 ton and even the duce. -
New Stuff @ Macktrucks.com
ThaddeusW replied to GearheadGrrrl's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I always thought the MR could compete with the PLS and HEMTT trucks. Calling both the new CH and Vision the Pinnacle is a bit confusing and redundant. Also fuller transmissions and Meritor rears standard isn't really pushing the Mack components, they should be options. Where is the CL replacement and why is the CH still lacking an axle back and 6 speed option? Why cant the Vision be the areo truck and the CH have both axle and axle back options? -
On hanks site a fellow mentioned that he worked on an '06 MR that had a 350HP red painted engine with "Renault" cast into the the back of the block. Now only two ideas come into mind: Pre 07 MP7 or left over engine blocks that were originally slated for use in Renaults. If I am correct the Mack E series (E-tech) engines were used in the Renault Premium, Kerax and AE/Magnum and SISU trucks. Perhaps when Volvo took over and replaced the Mack engine with a Volvo engine, Mack used up the remainder of the Renault blocks in their trucks. Or did Renault devlope the E-tech and dumped the leftover blocks in Mack's lap? Any ideas?

I have been following this the afternoon time. Really sad. I even feel bad for the shooter, what made that poor boy wake up with the intent to kill so many (including himself)?

Crew Cab R Model Fire Truck?
ThaddeusW replied to ThaddeusW's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Haha im only 26. "OF COURSE, he told me this rig was already picked up by a buff, but no one knows who or when." Someone already removed the truck? -
Saw someone posted this picture on hanks site but the picture is from a collection of another page. The truck in question is probably still there. Did Mack produce a 4 door R cab from factory? I wish I could get in there for a look but its fenced in. Judging from the hubs and filters it looks to be a 60's model. Damn, its so close to me but I don't know what department has jurisdiction of that abandoned air field.

LOL that was awesome. I love how it was balanced on the rears and just rode the hill up.
