  1. Hey Rob that sounds like a great project! Dirty dozen in a super dog
  2. Good lookin truck, how much weight can you gross with a quad-quad?
  3. Here is a link to a site from the Vanatta Brothers who have allot of experience with the m123a1c and the oshkosh 911 including problems they encounterd and preformances. They do offroad logging work so they really abuse the trucks. Lots (And I means lots - tons even!) of of good info. http://www.vannattabros.com/truck6.html P.S. The engine is a cummins 903 v8 which I think is still made but with that model you might have issues with finding parts.
  4. Welcome aboard! Clean the filter and its like new and gets rid of allot of the funky smell that come out when you first turn it on. The system will blow much harder and the ac will work better. If the previous owner was a smoker then definatly change the filter that smell is nausiating . Drip dry isnt the best idea as it might allow mold to grow which only adds to the funk (and could make you sick), dry it out fast by compressed air or drying it by hand with paper towles or something.
  5. Funny thing I just read today. In Europe they are using SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) instead of EGR. Thing is you have to have a seperate tank full of this urea solution called AdBlue which is injected into the exhaut line upstream of the After treatment device. The ratio of AdBlue needed is 20:1 so for every 20 gallons of diesel you need 1 gallon of AdBlue. AdBlue is projected to sell for half the price of diesel. I think the lawmakers behind these crazy (dare I say retarded) laws need to put the crack pipe down and come back to reality. Its easy to make stupid laws like this when its not your money and time getting thrown out the window. Here is a link to the Euro 5 page
  6. Your going to need the adaptor for the converter and a possibly a new bell housing. then your going to need brackets to mount the tranny. Then its just a matter of getting the thing all hooked up and a shifter in the cab. Maybe try to locate an automatic mack in the scrap yard and take off what you need. Just remember to give/sell the triplex to someone who can use it. Please dont scrap it.
  7. I sure agree with ya on that one. L on rails .
  8. LOL! Bulldog you gotta learn when to say "PHOTOSHOP"
  9. When and where? I might try to go.
  10. Dammit! does everyone who wants to destroy trucks have to use Macks? Go and relieve the dealers and scrap yards of all the freight shakers, IH's and fords they have. Leave the Macks alone.
  11. Yes it should fit. Your gonna get more torque out of a 237 then a 3208. Plus the 237 is more reliable then the 3208 which is prone to crank failure (someone correct me if I am wrong though).
  12. Stay away from the 3208 boat anchor. Put a maxidyne 237 in the dog.
  13. Aww the Quantum isnt so bad. Its no ultraliner but still I like it. The magnum was pretty cool too.
  14. Hey Jeff, The dealer gave me that quote so who knows. It does sound a bit pricy but with diesel prices up I guess I can see why.
  15. Just checked out the 360 virtual tour of the pinnacle they mentioned. Wow nice interior. Just as a side note your gonna need quicktime to view it. and dont click the high resolution version unless you have some serious hardware and a fast internet connection!
  16. Check out these Australian Macks used in the military! Those 6x6 wreckers look awesome with the steel hood and tall stance. What kind of wrecker body is that? The tanker with the equipment trailer is an interesting combination. Just think how easy the 6x6 wrecker could pull that road train if it ever broke down. If you look at the wrecker closely, the exhaust is right behind the bumper.
  17. 1. NEW TIRES OR RECAPS, WHAT SHOULD I GO WITH ?? Heard recaps are pretty good in terms of reliability. I have seen bandags take a beating on a drag racing truck. 2.PUTTING 22.5'S ON IT, POSSIBLE, NOT WORTH IT FOR WHAT I AM GOING TO DO WITH IT ?? ( I WANT TO STAY STOCK SINCE IT LOOKS SO ORIGINAL ALREADY ) 20 are tube type, 22.5 are tubeless. Someone here would probably give you a better idea between the pros and cons of tube vs tubeless 3. BUYING TIRES ONLINE, BETTER DEAL ON THE NET OR CHECK THE LOCAL DEALERS ? ? I know a guy who swears by buying tires online. Only way to find out is to shop around. 4.FACTORY WHEELS, KEEP THEM, EVEN THOUGH THE RING ON THEM CAN REMOVE A HAND, OR SWITCH ? ? If the wheels are in good shape then why replace them? If your going to tubeless 22.5 you are going to need new rims. 5. AND FINALLY , WHAT THE HECK IS CAMELBACK SUSPENSION ? ? DO I HAVE IT, HOW DO I KNOW IF I DO ? ? Camel back is Macks own spring suspension. here is a picture to get a better idea:
  18. One thing you can do to trace a leak is get some dish soap mix it with water and put it in a spray or squirt bottle. Then spray it all over the air lines and look for bubbles. Now you dont have to worry bout the engine running, you can see the leak.
  19. Air over hydraulic is simple to understand. Imagine two master cylinders one for the front and one for the rear. Instead of having the foot pedal directly actuate the cylinder there is a piston similar to a brake chamber that operates the master cylinder (that thing is called an air hydraulic intensifier). Its a full air system up until you get to the air hydraulic intensifires. then its just normal hydraulic brakes on the axles. Some mid liners had air over hydraulic on the front axle and regular air s-cam or air disc on the rear. The parking brake I think has a spring chamber on each rear wheel and works like a wedge brake to park it. With no air in the system the compressor should immediatly start to fill the tanks as there iis no air pressure in the unloader line. Disconnect any lines to the compressor and see if air starts blowing out of one of them while the engine is running. No air means the compressor valves might be bad, or the unloader valve in the compressor is stuck open. I am not 100% sure but the govenor might be mounted to the air dryer. Also check the delivery line from the compressor and the air dryer for clogs. The euro brake systems are different as they have no wet tank, all accessories are back fed from the primary and secondary brake tanks as well as the trailer supply tank if its a tractor (yup they have a tank just for trailer air and tractor spring brakes). There is a valve manifold mounted to the dryer and it cuts the accessories off once the pressure drops below a set level in the tanks. also the govenor is usually mounted on the air dryer in most newer euro brake systems.
  20. That truck was supposed to be sold on ebay a while back. I wonder why they cant sell it.
  21. The hubs kind of resemble the Renault planetary axles used on Australian Titans. It looks like it has demountable rims but that can be done with trilex wheel adaptors. I am really curious if those are planetary axles, possibly added on or custom orderd. Here is a pic of the Renault axles:
  22. Yea man, looking sweet! Cant wait to see the rest of it together! Nice looking engine by the way.
  23. I agree, Friend has the same thing on a VW passat and man even with it he still cant park. Like I said make it an option only that can be easily turned off. I wouldent want it but some might.
  24. Tim, I couldent agree with you more. Those steel hood Macks look real tough and sharp at the same time. Too bad they dont offer a steel hood anymore. And are those rear axles on it planetary hub reduction? the hub end looks real fat for a regular 58-65k rear. That or its just the angle.
