DH478 Toroflow-powered 1972 GMC Napco 4x4 K5500
BOBWhite replied to kscarbel2's topic in Other Truck Makes
Some of the newer John Deere choppers use v12 Liebherr engines. Never been around one Took a look at that GMC V6 this weekend, 67Rmodel was dead on with the location of the number but it took some scraping to read. 401M is what it said but still not sure what M or "magnum" means. It would be a cool motor to swap into something but the Allison auto trans in it is way too huge for a pickup. -

Have one of those giant GMC gas V6s sitting in a truck, don't remember what ci it was. My uncle told me that the gas v6s were basically built to be diesels so they'll last forever. Must not have been a very good diesel though from what I've heard. Oh the topic of air-cooled Duetz; never knew you could get them from the factory in trucks here. Up until 96 you could get them in gleaner combines but they were hated by most. Twin turbo air-cooled V8 was just too strange for farmers, they had to be kept CLEAN which isn't easy to do on a combine. Parts and service were also terrible so many got junked or cummins swapped if they really like the machine. At least they sounded cool -
This was the style I was wanting to replace it with: The one on my 285 doesn't feel like it's doing much. This type always worked well on JD stuff

Educate me on hand primer pumps, are there different thread sizes? I have a few older pieces of equipment with the old "unscrew and pump" type and would like to replace them with the "black top" type. The old style probably would work if I put new seals in but I prefer the newer type. Thanks

The city of Minneapolis is in such a sad condition. Minneapolis Moline and other great agricultural products were made there not all that long ago, now they just manufacture chaos and destruction.

1972 Loadstar , my love for loadstars continues .
BOBWhite replied to 85snowdog's topic in Other Truck Makes
I wish our truck had the 549, but the 345 V8 in our seed wheat truck really has treated us well. Such a smooth engine for not being maintained and cobbled together spark plug wires. -
Door plate tag or Injector pump tag might reveal something if they aren't worn off too. Someone here might be able to decode that injection pump tag but not sure. Best of luck

Differences Pioneer and Anthem
BOBWhite replied to james j neiweem's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I kept a little Honda trail 70 in the back of my pickup for that very reason, parts fetching that is. I must have carried over 1000lbs of small odds and ends back and forth from the field to the shop. Pick it up and throw it in the back when done. And sorry again for highjacking the thread lol. -

Since Joey shared his mobile mechanic setup I thought I'd share one I saw sell on Truck Paper the other day: What a rig! Be something nice to build something like this on the farm someday, crane and welder would sure be handy. -

Former Gas Turbine Powered Chevy Titan 90?
BOBWhite replied to RoadwayR's topic in Other Truck Makes
Good eye spotting that! It would be a cool project to save that cab and restore it. Ive heard helicopter and crop duster turbine engines have a lot more hours left in em after FAA regulations decommission them. Wonder how hard that would be to swap 🤔 -
Superliner RW700 Steering axle
BOBWhite replied to 1961H67's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I like that look too, lots of rubber. Probably not the best if you don't have power steering with a larger contact patch on the ground, but I haven't driven enough to know if that would make a bit of difference. -
Back in the Mack Pack!
BOBWhite replied to BOBWhite's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Anyone know if this is normal oil pressure? Or if there is a relief valve that's stuck? 90 just seems too high at full load Also anyone know how to tell if an engine has dynatard? This truck had an engine swap way back when and I am wondering if it mechanically has it but just never got hooked up. You boys that drive these truck in the hills fully loaded are brave! Engine has hardly any breaking at all, almost feels like the clutch is pushed in when you let off. Nature of the beast I guess -

Good to hear an update on this! I've got too many projects on the back burner as well, too busy in the summer and too cold in the winter lol On the topic of gaskets anyone tried carbide scrapers for gasket removal? I've got an aluminum head that is being stubborn.

Did those originally come with the Continental/Hercules engines and then swapped out? Were they swapped out by the military or was it done after they were retired? The ones around here I've only seen hauling water for cattle.

I'll make a separate thread about it sometime, not too worried about it now that its cold. I need parts like the top cab seal and control panel.

Wish I could have talked to that guy with the W900. I'd like to get the rooftop unit on my Mack working, maybe he would have a few pointers.

Wasn't able to make it this year but took some pictures on my way through. Seemed like it was going to be a good show! 8V92 in this Transtar, nice looking truck. Wish I'd got the chance to talk to more of these people, lots of nice folk. Hope I get to bring a truck one of these years but it's always a busy time.

You don't see many of those that are in that good of shape anymore, most are beaten to death by the 2nd owner. Hope it finds a good owner

Wiring Diagrams, fm Mack Museum. Fire Truck dual distributors
BOBWhite replied to T-Mack1's topic in Fire Apparatus
I see the jumper wires now, who knows what I was thinking! And everything would be 12 volt since both battery banks are grounded. The two solenoids are for key on and start. I've never been very good with these diagrams, at least there are no Diode or Resister alien symbols. -

BOBWhite replied to T-Mack1's topic in Fire Apparatus
How interesting, it looks to me like those are two 6 volt batteries that are connected In parallel to provide 12 volts to the starter but everything else is 6 volt. Never seen that! Our International truck has a similar setup with two 12 volts to make 24 for the starter, that parallel solenoid has gotten knocked out a couple of times. -
Local Ford dealership building sold last year and I picked up a shop manual for a CL9000. They stopped selling cars in the 90s but the family held onto the building until recently, tons of cool stuff with books and parts. Anyway, need to get that CL9000 book scanned onto a PDF

I'm in the same place at the moment, wheat needs to get put into the ground and milo cut. Still waiting on things to dry out.
