    Syria

Kassem Eid survived the 2013 chemical attack in Syria. As someone who has seen the government's horror firsthand, he is one of many Syrians who are overjoyed at the Trump administration's response to the most recent chemical attack. During an interview with CNN's Brooke Baldwin on Friday, he could not contain his gratitude for Trump's aggressive and long overdue response to the Assad regime. "I cried out of joy. I thanked God. I don't know. I was overwhelmed. We've been asking for protection. We've been asking for consequences for more than six years, for the very first time we see Assad held accountable just for once, held accountable for his crimes against humanity. I was overwhelmed. I felt grateful for President Trump. I felt grateful for the United States." Baldwin, skeptical of Eid's praise for Trump's foreign policy, pressed her guest for his thoughts on Trump's temporary travel ban on Syrian refugees. Instead, he exposed the hypocrisy of those who are quick to criticize the president, but slow to stand in solidarity with the Syrian people. Where were these verbal warriors, he wondered, when President Obama failed to act after the 2013 attack? His "red line" threat against Assad turned out to be empty. "With all due respect, with all due respect, I didn't see each and every person who was demonstrating after the travel ban. I didn't see you three days ago when people were gassed to death, when civilians were gassed to death. I didn't see you in 2013 when 1,400 people were gassed to death. I didn't see you raising your voice against President Obama's inaction in Syria that led us refugees, that made us refugees get kicked out of Syria. If you really care about refugees, if you really care about helping us, please, help us stay in our in our country." Eid again commended Trump for the airstrike and urged him to take more action so that Assad's power can be eclipsed and Syrians can stay in their country. Before Trump takes any further military action, however, Congress is urging him to seek an Authorization of the Use of Military Force. BUT, President Harry Truman broke that precedent. While we call the Korean War a “war” today, Truman never bothered to get a declaration of war from Congress — he just sent US troops to aid American-aligned South Korea against communist North Korea on his own. That set a Cold War precedent. The Johnson administration got congressional approval (via the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin resolution) to escalate the war in Vietnam; the resolution was repealed in 1971 at which point the war it had written a blank check for had killed tens of thousands of American soldiers. In 1973, Congress passed the War Powers Act an attempt to clarify where the executive’s “commander in chief” powers ended and Congress’ “declare war” power began. The War Powers Act required the president to notify Congress when he got the US involved in “hostilities” — and then set a 60- to 90-day clock for Congress to approve that action, by passing an authorization of use of military force, or for the president to withdraw from the conflict. It also allowed Congress to pass a concurrent resolution that would force the executive branch to withdraw from any conflict it hasn’t already approved. But the War Powers Act didn’t resolve the debate. It just shifted it — from what counted as a “war” to what counted as “hostilities.” The only president to officially file a report that triggered the 60- to 90-day clock, according to the Library of Congress, was Gerald Ford. President Reagan went into Lebanon while telling Congress but without formally reporting on it, and into El Salvador without notifying Congress at all; President Bush argued that he didn’t need congressional approval to go into Kuwait, because the US was acting in support of a United Nations resolution. President Clinton told Congress when he went into Bosnia and Kosovo but never triggered the 60-day countdown On September 18, 2001 — in the post-9/11 rush to “do something” that also brought America the Patriot Act and the Department of Homeland Security — Congress passed an authorization of military force that allowed the president to: "use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons" The 2001 AUMF justified the war in Afghanistan, since al-Qaeda was the organization that had planned the 9/11 attacks and the Afghan Taliban had “harbored” al-Qaeda, it opened the door to other conflicts as well — and didn’t set a time limit for how long the authorization would stand. So the executive branch has just kept using it. By May 2016, the current authorization had been used to justify unclassified military action 37 times in 14 countries since 2001 — 18 times by President George W. Bush, and 19 times by President Barack Obama.

  4. Have you you ever wondered what happens when Berkeley-Haight Ashbury environmentalists finally control of all the levers of government power? Let me introduce you the town of Hermosa Beach, California The first thing they do is come for your carbon. They want you to stop burning it. Immediately!! Environmental purists believe that burning carbon in any of its various forms ultimately causes the seas to rise and the polar caps to melt. They believe carbon emissions cause the rainlessness that is turning central California into fallow hardscape. Hermosa’s newly elected political leadership decided to take a stand against carbon and recently unveiled a "Good Law" to reach their goal of being 100% “carbon neutral” by 2030. In green-speak, “carbon neutrality” means achieving zero net carbon emissions by eliminating greenhouse gasses (i.e., carbon dioxide) and purchasing “offsets” (i.e., trees) for whatever they can’t. Their roadmapl is called PLAN Hermosa. Predictably, the first step towards “carbon neutrality” calls for getting rid of the city’s cars. According to PLAN Hermosa, transportation accounts for 54% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the city, so it is important to “disincentivize (BAN) conventionally fueled automobile use.” Hermosa Beach politicians aren’t bold enough to issue a diktat banning gasoline burning automobiles from the city’s streets..,yet, so they do the next best thing - they make it hard for their residents to use them. PLAN Hermosa calls for the elimination of parking spaces and chargin up to $15.00 per hour for the ones that remain. In the densely populated beach city where parking is already at a premium and 95% of the working population drives to their place of business, this will be a significant imposition. But bicycling is good for you, and the ice floes and polar bears aren’t going to save themselves. PLAN Hermosa also says that natural gas has to go because it’s the next biggest source of greenhouse emissions after cars. PLAN Hermosa “mandated” all homes in the city that currently use it (almost all of them) for heating and cooking convert to “biogas technologies and electrification of heating and cooking appliances.” Commercial buildings that use it (almost all of them) would be forced to retrofit with renewable energy sources at the time of sale or before any major renovations. Given that “electrification” means homes and businesses will be forced to draw power from plants that generate most of it from fossil fuels, this is an obscenely expensive, self-congratulatory gesture. The drafts of PLAN Hermosa are peppered with the word “mandate,” which means there’s no choice. City forces will presumably identify homes in Hermosa Beach (again, almost all of them) that use gas stoves and force homeowners to replace them with electric ones. It would be one thing if the city paid for the conversion, but given the state of the city’s finances homeowners will likely bear the cost. For the Hermosa’s businesses, consumers will pay for achieving carbon neutrality through higher prices. Either that or they’ll shop elsewhere. What will the city do to homeowners who refuse to convert? Typically, violating the municipal code is a misdemeanor offense punishable by fines and jail time. The city will fine homeowners who keep the outlawed ovens, or will it throw recalcitrant “climate deniers” who refuse to do their part to combat global warming in jail. (This might seem like oppressive government overreach to most, but don’t forget President Obama’s DOJ contemplated legal action against “climate deniers.”) Hermosa Beach’s green political activists also know eliminating residents’ demand for carbon is only half the battle; they mandated cutting off the supply. Like the DEA dusting Colombia’s coca fields with herbicides to stem the production of cocaine, Hermosa Beach’s politicians will choke-off the supply of climate-killing carbon through “Community Choice Aggregation.” This is a state-approved plan that allows cities to create a municipal utility to purchase and sell energy from green sources. In other words, when Hermosa residents fire-up their new electric stoves the power will come from solar panels and wind turbines. Some estimate the set-up cost could be as much as $1,000,000. Residents and businesses will automatically become customers of the new utility unless they choose to “opt out.” and face stiff fines. The idealistic French revolutionaries who seized control of their country brought liberté, égalité, fraternité to the French people - and eventually, the guillotine. When the green Jacobins took control of Hermosa Beach they brought a regime of taxpayer funding, symbolism, and government coercion to residents. The last two, symbolism and government coercion, are to environmentalism what fuel and oxygen are to fire. Cost - especially when its other people’s money - isn’t a consideration. Green idealism currently rules Hermosa Beach, and where idealism rules the guillotine isn’t far behind. But in Hermosa Beach, at least it will be solar powered

  10. Here is the link to Dennis Carpenters Ford Truck parts. It's on the second or third page. I ended up pretty lucky because the 1948 to 1952 matches the B shaped vent close not exact but close enough to work well. 1953 and up is close the R model vent parts. . 12. Take a photo of the handle and the shaft it goes on it you can. This is what I bought for my B61 Mixer. The shaft has a flat that limits the amount the handle turns and behind the flat is a 360 degree "channel" that the roll pin fits against.
  13. The rest of the story.from the Jerusalem Post. One bad cop makes them all bad I suppose. Israel Police issued a statement saying the incident represented “extreme and abnormal behavior that does not comply with the behavior expected of Israel Police officers.” It added that after police received the video, the officer involved was immediately suspended and is now due to stand in a hearing with authorities on his continued tenure. Meanwhile, police officials were further reviewing the footage of the incident. The matter also spurred concerned responses from Israeli politicians. “The behavior of the police officer filmed violently attacking an east Jerusalem resident is of the utmost gravity and disgraceful,” Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said. “Such behavior harms the entire police force and the police acted correctly to immediately suspend the officer. There is no place for such behavior among police and I hope that the Israel Police will reach a grave judgment against him for his unacceptable behavior.” That response was distinctly different from others Erdan has often made that were – at least during initial stages of a controversial event – protective of police. Meanwhile, Joint List MK Ahmad Tibi said he had asked the chief of the Israel Police and Erdan to take action. “We are talking about the brutal behavior of a security official against a truck driver from east Jerusalem,” said Tibi. “I demand his [the officer’s] immediate arrest and a trial of him and his two companions who joined the fist fight against the local driver.” Tibi added that he had spoken with a witness who claimed to have filmed the brawl. Meretz chairwoman Zehava Gal-On said that the incident was a direct result of lack of effective treatment of police brutality toward minorities in Israel. “Just like it, with no reason. Hitting him on the head and then hitting the person next to him,” she said. “This is how it appears, and it is not surprising." "They are still closing cases in the Police Investigation Department of policemen beating Arabs, Ethiopians and protesters without explaining why.” Joint List chairman Ayman Odeh reiterated that notion by saying the problem was not this specific violent policeman, but with the whole system around him. “This rotten racist violence goes deep down within the police,” he said. “And this police commissioner and [public security] minister only help it spread around.” Shwiki spoke about the incident on Thursday morning and said he was suffering shortness of breath due to fractures to his sternum caused by the assault.

  17. Our old neighbor on Long Island asked my wife why we has a couple dozen old trucks parked along his fence line. She told him some were to stop grass and weeds from growing so her earth worms could thrive. Dopey yuppie believed her.
  18. All to comply with the Federal CAFE standards coming in to effect. The Obama administration outlined in 2011 its goal of boosting average fleet fuel economy to 54.5 miles starting between 2018 and 2025. A combined increase of more than 90 percent over 2011 levels Also coming in to play is EPA mandated requirements for medium and heavy trucks including increased aerodynamics, Low rolling resistance tires, ground effects and computer controlled tire pressure monitoring systems. One of the main reasons for Fords Eco boost engines, Close to the same power as a V8 but a large weight savings. GM is following with an Aluminum bed for weight savings, Paul
  19. Originally the chassis was built for running the Alaska Highway with a 1500 gallon tank behind the cab and fifth wheel for a trailer and pup. Power 8V-71 The truck was owned by Sunny's of Miami Florida. and built by them as a Five axle wrecker... Almost 40 Years ago.... And those are (3) Three live pulling rear axles... Not a tag or lift... Centipede was fitted with a Holmes 850. The original tube booms were replaced with ones made in a local Florida ship yard after the originals bent. This photo is from 1977 at the Daytona 500. It's was later owned by Mike of Marlboro Autobody in New Jersey.
