Growing up on Long Island in the 50's to mid 70's we had Roosevelt raceway had auto circle track and horse track, Bridge Hampton Road Course, Freeport, Islp and Riverhead oval tracks, West Hampton Drag Strip, Suffolk Dragway and National Speedway 1/4 mile strips. Islip also had an 1/8 mile drag strip. There were very few gas stations and auto parts stores that didn't have a stocker, midget, demo car or drag car back than. Now I drive 4 hours each way to race my SVT 3 or 4 passes if I'm lucky. Paul

New York bridge law for 54,000 is for what they class as a divisible load (sand, gravel etc) and the law is different for a non divisible load (container, large freight etc) Basically the 54,000 limit is to get you to buy a permit, has zero to do with anything but money, same as the NYHUT $$$$ -
Dang! Rockingham was a big time track once. What happened to it?

Stock dividends and the bottom line has been a business practice from the get go. Employee recognition, bonuses and even a simple "Good Job" opens up all kind of potential ramifications with other employees, ACLU lawyers, unions and god knows who else. With the CNC equipment the person who was loading the deep fryer at MacDonalds in now putting the liners on the line for the robot. There is no pride, work ethic or loyalty on both sides. Schools teach children NOT to take the incentive and think out of the box or do something out of the norm. Little Johnny can't pour piss out of a boot, with the directions on the bottom but we will make him a teacher so he has self esteem. Why? Mostly because of the T Ball syndrome. . . every body is equal, everybody wins, don't try to excel it makes the ones who can't "feel bad". You screw up it's not your fault , it's because society failed you. Here is a few examples. A middle school girls basket ball team (12 or so years old?) was banned from playing. Why because they were a good team. The parents of the other girls team members complained their children were up set by this teams good abilities at the game. 40 years ago the other teams would have practiced more to become as good. Now get rid of the boat rockers. It is a P.C. no no to take pride in anything you do. Don't raise the bar just bring every one down to the lowest level My grandson and his buddy stole 3 Chrysler drag racing racing engines from my barn to buy dope the engines total value is $160,000.00. I pressed charges a would not drop them after repeated pleas from son and daughter in law. The DA told me they need counseling not jail time as it was the dope and not their fault. I told him if he did not prosecute them I'd put the entire deal up on bill boards for all to see. Told my son and daughter in law it was their fault for talking and not spanking when the boy was young. Bottom line the ''poor child'' did jail time and an hour after his release tried to steal a brand new Mustang from Otis Ford. Moved from the County Jail to the State Prison. His parents told me he did that because I sent him to jail instead of understanding the problem. Off track a bit but that part of the poor quality, poor work ethic we have today. Paul

It's not just corporations, employees and parts. A lot of the problems can be blamed on the materials and manufacturing processes mandated by world wide environmental acts. Environmentally "friendly" alloys and machining processes have a lot effect on parts life and final quality. I have 80 plus year old AC blocks and crank shafts that because of "old dirty" technology just need to hone the cylinders and polish the journals. I have pulled down 2 or 3 year old engines that needed to be over bored, rods rebuilt or tossed depending if the are machined or fracture made and cranks cut .005 to .010 ,and that is with modern metallurgy and modern oils. I really think that has a lot to do with most all modern products, not just engines. Paul

That old International with the tank body brings a lot of memories. The local township had 70 or 80 of them when I was young. Mostly 6 wheel dumps and rack bodies. Town had Internationals, one lumber yard had Chevies and the other had Studebakers, Commander Oil and Liza had all Macks, Prefered Sand and Gravel was all Autocars and REO's and Jacobsons Ship Yard was a mix of Dodge and GMC ex WWII trucks.

New York State Bridge Formula: 34,000 + (1,000 x Overall Wheelbase in feet, rounded to the nearest foot) State Bridge formula Example: 4 axle dump truck with a 20 foot overall wheelbase; 34,000 + (1,000 x 20) = 54,000 pounds. -
Violating treaties or just plain ignoring them seem the be the norm. Remember as up to the 1960's most ethnic groups were considered second class citizens from the the Indians to the Irish. That was the European mind set going back centuries (for want of better words). Europe still holds ethnic "grudges" going back centuries to this day. I can't put myself in my fathers place with his up bringing, as can my children or grand children in mine. Then as now politics is about prestige, power, money and leaving a legacy that rarely includes anything for the common citizen. Also remember most of the Founding Fathers were the upper class educated, land owners and men of status. In that time period they were raised to consider the average man as unrefined, uneducated lower class, but still miles above the " native savages" whom were considered to have lower status than their slaves. The people need to just stop pandering individuals and groups. History is History , good or bad, it's what happened. . . learn from it. Every little thing has to be checked and made non offensive. Well I own a pair of INDIAN Chiefs and don't feel guilty about it. Don't feel guilty about slavery, bombing the Japs or Germans, my going to fight in Vietnam, profiling groups prone to crime or terrorist attacks or saying "boy am I tired". I pick my friends by who they are not by color, sex or ethnic group. My enemies are stupidity, narrow mindedness, anybody who attacks or threatens my family or my country. Time for people to learn that life isn't fair, not everybody is special, work if you want something, you want my respect? Earn it! Jealous of what I have? Work for it. No one owes you anything, quicker people learn that the better off they'll be.

My wife told me with Ford she thought I was going to have a stroke, I was so mad I couldn't even drive to the dealer. I lost 4 months use and 7 accounts with my 477 and I cannot even begin to imaging the time and money Superdog is looking at.

Want to advance knowledge of American History? Teach the non "politically correct" history in school. Put the so called "offensive" chapters back in. Look at the "new" American History taught today. S.E. United States was "stolen" from Spain and Mexico. Our war with Japan is now taught as The American Conquest of the Pacific Rim and we are now credited with starting the war with Japan by the USS Ward sinking an "innocent" Japanese submarine. Korea and Vietnam are taught as the continuation of our Pacific Conquest. There is a sub chapter on the American crime of using the Atomic Bombs an U.S. Internment camps in the States. Nothing about the Bataan Death March Corregidor or the killing of Allied prisoners. What history is taught, is clean, non offensive, politically correct and apologetic. Ask most people from the average person on the street to a professor or banker whose picture is on most any bill, most have no idea. Heck, most people have no idea who we fought in the Revolutionary War, Civil War or even the Gulf War. We live in a society where Home Depot had a hiring requirement that an applicant need the ability to do basic 4th grade math. They were sued and the court fined them for un fair hiring practices. Most Americans only care about the denomination of the bill not the history. my 2 cents. Paul

Why do we keep letting this crap rammed down our throats? Another part of Obama's legacy? More important things for politicians to work on and the public to get vocal about. Obama taking the Saudi Kings views on the 911 bill over the Americans is but one example. (every decision involving the Middle East seems to favor the Arabic countries) I personally feel that the up coming election could be the breaking point of our government / citizen relationship. So what the Feds want to do is probably moot.

Factory re-manufactured engines seem to be a crap shot from any manufacturer. I bought a Ford re-manufactured 477 truck long block 5 years ago. Put in in my car carrier. Started it up and all was good. 500 or so miles later it has a hollow knock. The dealer pulled the pan and found nothing, no bad bearing, plasti gauged it and clearances were good. The knock got worse and the dealer and the factory rep told me nothing was wrong with their engine. Finally had enough and pulled it out. Bearings and clearances were good, wrist pins were good, cam bearings and thrust was good, heads were good. I started to mike up the pistons and bore. Found .080 over pistons (Max Ford allows) and a .100 to .110 cylinder bore. Ford finally offered me another reman after I lost 3 months of use. I did what I should have done originally and rebuilt my old engine myself. I had Merkel machine the block and polish the crank and balance the rotating assembly. Got a lesson from that trial on factory re-manufactured engines Hope you get results from the dealer. Paul

They usually look happier but they were up set because we wouldn't let them pee on the Hillary 2017 poster in the neighbors yard. They mopped around til I gave them a bumper sticker to slobber on.

Coming along nice. My trick with wiring and plumbing is , if it get to be a bit frustrating, I go do something else and come back later. Seems for me at least to clear my fruistration away. Paul -
That's why I mention Ford Truck, the F-4 and larger look closer to the sizes for the over load snubbers, but the Merc and Lincolins had a 3 3/4 diameter snubbers on the Senior models. It's a place to start from.

Well, look at the bright side. UC Berkley, with the mandated $15.00 an hour wage has to lay off 500 workers because the STATE of KALIFORNIA (who passed the law) can't afford the new minimum wage for all the low level employees. They are 1 of 50 state institutions who are going to cut workers because of the increase. Bet they don't like the White House now....

Liberals have a habit of saying that they want peace and an end to war. They say that they want to save lives (unless those are unborn lives) and show compassion to everyone. And, to listen to the media, you might believe them, so long as your name isn’t… Donald Trump. It seems that if your name is Donald Trump, then death wishes and death threats are apparently A-okay. A tombstone with Donald Trump’s name showed up in Central Park a week ago. Additionally, Tweets calling for both Trump’s murder and offering to kill Trump are showing up regularly. But, you’re not hearing about that in the mainstream media, are you? Where are the people decrying the murder of “innocent” people (even when those people were caught on camera trying to injure police officers)? What about “Black Lives Matter” protesters? Since when did it become okay to threaten the lives of those that you disagree with politically, but publicly defend those who are shown to be violent lawbreakers if they are part of your “preferred” group of people? Frankly, if liberals want to know why Donald Trump has so much support in America these days, it comes down to two basic things, in my opinion: He says what he thinks instead of pandering for popularity, being careful not to offend anyone. And… He expresses the frustration many people feel about the treating groups of people as preferred and protected groups instead of treating people as the individuals that they are and judging people by their character (what would Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. have thought about the Democrats pandering to special interest groups today?) It’s time that politicians and the mainstream media cut the bias and treat people as individuals instead of ethnic and political groups. In other words, it’s time to cut the racism and classicism that they accuse everyone else of. Paul
