  4. November 6, 2015 Obamacare vs. BeerBy Michelle MintonPresident Obama likes beer. He drinks it, he brews it, and he's been named the presidential candidate people would most want to have a drink with. However, his signature health-care law might change how we can enjoy a cold one when ordering at restaurants. A little-known provision within his Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") requires chain restaurants with 20 or more locations to list calorie information for "standard menu items," including each available beer, on menus and menu boards by December 2016. Testing the nutritional content of a single bee rcould cost as much as $1,000, according to the Beer Institute, a trade association representing brewers Very large brewers producing millions of barrels of the same few brands each year can easily absorb that cost. But smaller brewers with large selections could see costs quickly add up. And it isn't just calories. Other nutritional information, including total carbohydrates, sugars, and proteins, must be made available in writing upon a customer's request. For a craft brewer, getting a beer onto the menu of a major chain restaurant like TGI Fridays is a huge boost. However, it doesn't make sense for them to test every variety of beer they make, spending many thousands of dollars before they have even made it onto a chain restaurant's menu. Restaurants interested in carrying a craft beer may not want to wait for testing to be done and will move on to beers that already have nutritional information. That means many craft brewers will miss out on an important opportunity to grow their business. In addition to the cost and lost opportunity for smaller brewers, the ACA labeling requirement threatens to exacerbate regulatory overlap and sow confusion, Paul Gatza, director of the Brewers Association, which represents smaller brewers, told me. The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) is the agency that normally handles regulation of beer, including labeling, but the ACA menu-labeling rules bring brewers under the FDA's authority. "We would like to see a harmonization of the differences between FDA and TTB in how they handle calories," Gatza said. The Brewers Association, along with a coalition of other alcohol trade organizations, is asking the FDA for clearer guidance on the new rules. "The FDA allows an exact number of calories for menus and menu boards when the calorie number is on the label, but only allows rounding to the nearest 10-calorie increment if not," said Gatza. This is different from the TTB's requirement, which allows for rounding to the nearest calorie increment. For example, if a restaurant has a beer with 167 calories, they have to list it as having 170 under FDA's menu-labeling law. However, some brewers already have calories listed elsewhere, using the TTB's method of rounding to the nearest calorie. While Gatza admits that the risk is minimal, there is "an opening for these multiple calorie counts for a specific beer and serving size to cause confusion and, theoretically, exposure to a nuisance suit," he said. The Brewers Association is hoping to work with the FDA to allow for "reasonable tolerances," which functionally means allowing the numbers to fall within a certain range so that brewers can calculate the approximate calories, carbs, sugars, etc., based on the alcohol content of any particular beer. This would allow the Brewers Association to create a database of ranges for brewers to use for each beer style, without the need to go through costly nutritional testing for every beer they make. According to Gatza, "that would be a solution that wouldn't expose the smallest brewers to large expense, tough decisions about whether to stay in chains, or providing inaccurate information." Unless the FDA provides greater flexibility within the new rules, all of this may add up to increased risks and costs to small brewers. While consumers at chain restaurants will certainly see more information on their menu as a result of the new rule, but they might also notice fewer options when it comes to the selection of beer. 5. Don't worry about S.S. Hillary has promised a Federal law (like health care) that will require every citizen to have a Federal run IRA for retirement with a IRS fine fee for not meeting the minimum required contribution. She wants it patterned after the wildly successful ACA.
  6. So the UAW who owns 17% or so of GM from the Obama bail out (more for the UAW than GM) basically came to an agreement with them selves? More than likely the UAW International sees the Chinese and Asian Auto industry as a cash cow for themselves with unionizing and dues with out any benefits to the Chinese workers. IMO
  7. Don't forget that o bammy is allowing 20,000 to 35000 Syrian refuges here on an "emergency edict". Guess he needs them to get a few shots in before the elections are cancelled.
  8. The remains of this unit was at the last Marmon Home Coming in Denton.
  9. Popeyes across from Fort KFC click pic
  10. The rail switch was also used as U Model kick stands
  11. So you have heard about Fort KFC on Malcolm X Blvd in Wyandanch all the way in Washington State? Like a drive up bank, Bullet resistant glass a cash /"chicken draw and a speaker NO entry in side. They been robbed and shot up over 50 times so KFC literally sealed it up 3 "windows no waiting"... About combat pay under this administration you only get it during a combat action NOT for being in harms way. A 12 minute fire fight = 12 minutes of combat pay
  12. Grandson brough these home from Caterpillar they are #7 Bucket Tooth Plow Bolts. The tooth "collapses and locks it in the hole as he said tighter than sh#t.
  13. I personally have let it be known that myself, my family and my workers will not patronize, donate or work for any business, church or organization that supports, hires or give charity to any illegals or support groups. I ask out right what their stand and practices are. I either get an answer yes or no or a snide remark. Either way I get an answer. When I went to 112 Dodge to order my truck I asked the salesman if the guy cutting the grass was an illegal. Tore up my order and put the cash payment in my pocket and explained to the sales manger what cost him a 100% cash sale. Amnesty? How about an apology to the American tax payer for screwing us over. . .again, than listen to us and shut the door. This should be in front of every person who was elected to work for the people"
  14. In New York our taxes have paid for Recreation centers, hiring halls and meals for the illegals looking for work. . . this was so the don't have to hang out on street corners waiting for work to come along. Cost per illegals is close to $65.00 per person per day. Yet New York can't afford Teen Centers, Senior Citizen Centers or Veterans Day Care for the older vets. Some places in N.Y. Illegals are allowed to vote, because "the laws and policies affect them too". Can't refuse an illegals children from public school, can't deny medical care, can't take care of our own because we spent it all on the illegals.
  15. Looked all B-3 series to me also, but VIN tag was for an A-30 and the show card said A-30. I figured it was really a B-30. Power plant is a early 2000 Ford Power Stroke and auto. Also had a DANA 80 rear in it which was the norm with power Strokes. Dash and most interior pieces were Dodge from the late 1950's. It is a bits-a truck.
  16. Or our Combat troops who average about $9 an hour.
  17. Fiberglass is even easier to repair as long as most all the pieces are there

  22. Funny how things change. I always thought fast food and department stores were jobs to get work experience, a second job for extra money or for senior citizens to make ends meet. Never knew they were careers til recently.
  23. Caterpillar has them. I asked my grandson who works for H.O. Penn Cat dealer. Also here from Grangers Grade 5 to 8. http://www.grainger.com/category/plow-bolts/bolts/fasteners/ecatalog/N-8k2
