North Carolina troopers ordered to catch truckers napping
41chevy replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
In the new order it seem all about $$. A friends son about 35 years old made a u turn at an intersection to go into his street. It's allowed. Nassau PD decided he did it to avoid going past a parked squad car. He was charged with suspicion of DWI pending a blood test. He was still charged with it and $15000 dollars later the DA dropped the charge and dismissed the case. The County Lawyer (different from the DA) ordered his car seized. Seems that NYS has a law that any charge involving Alcohol or Drugs... even if it is dismissed, the County Legal dept can seize the vehicle you were driving. Now for a one time payment of 2/3 the current retail value or $10,000 (which ever is greater) you get the vehicle back. Nassau County and NYC have forfeiture and seizure payments and vehicle sales figured into the yearly budgets. I'm sure most other places do to. All about the money nothing more nothing less. I was told a while ago by a Suffolk Motor Officer (bike) that they are told to target trucks and people who drive older vehicles because neither of them have the time to fight the tickets. Just $$$$ -
Laundry marker. water proof and stands up to bleach so it should last in the weather.

Sure! Than they will cite you and issue an out of service for the "leak" -
Public salaries are out of hand. I have a cousin who works for the Town of Oyster Bay, he's got about 18 years in. Drives a street sweeper nothing else! Makes $78000 a year not counting benefits and over time. Sits in the town garage and watches TV when the weather is too wet, to hot or too cold to go out.

I was told he may have passed away. Any one here who is a member of the SPAAMFAA can look up his name in the roster. Paul

New U.S. truck emissions rules could touch off industry struggle
41chevy replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Don't forget Gina of the EPA is also targeting emissions from fire pits, bar b ques home heating systems, wood, coal and pellet stoves, waste oil heaters and ships and boats that use our ports, inland waterways and coastal areas, power plants and public transportation units. Now that coal is out of the picture, oil and natural gas are the new enemies of the EPA. -
Federal judge: Wal-Mart violated state minimum wage laws for drivers
41chevy replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Thought Wal mart paid a small salary plus mileage similar to a waitress? Than again the current administration seems to have an agenda against Wal Mart and MacDonalds . -
She used to be at school at 7am, school started at 7:10. Four classes and a 10 minute home room is 3 hours and 23 minutes of work, 1 1/2 hour lunch break and goof off do important teacher stuff until school is dismissed at 2 p.m.. SIX hour and 50 minute day is 35 hours a week @ 180 days a year counting paid teachers conference days, paid holiday breaks and 7 days of testing. Real time about 160 days a year for that money not counting health, continuing education to get more degrees, accrued sick days and personal days and retirement benefits. Now because the IRS and NYS Tax people didn't consider the job full time but seasonal (like a farm worker) she got a good income tax break, a deduction for the clothes she bought to wear to school and deduction for the purchase of a PC, a lap top and her I-pad to" keep lessons on.". But WAIT, THERE'S MORE!! Property tax credit for home office for doing important teacher stuff. After all she is a member of the elite group of educators know as Academia the Saviors of our Future! Her son stole 3 of my racing engines and sold them for dope, got arrested, released on bail and attempted to steal a new Mustang from Sayville Ford in the day time. Got 10 years in the County and released in 4 because of over crowding. Now She thinks he just need a buddy to talk to because he's going through a phase. the TEACHER can't do basic math with out a calculator, writes like they text with all the short crap, misspells half her words in e mails ("thats what spell check is for") and in my opinion could not pour pee from a boot if you put the directions on the boot bottom!

Trucks a Key Part of Obama Administration’s Climate-Change Goals
41chevy replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
All of this from the big 'O' who burned 53,000 plus gallons of jet fuel in A.F. One to film a video of his 12 million acre preserve he is creating in Alaska. No houses, roads, mining, drilling, hunting or people allowed. . . not even the natives. Than flew with the video to Greece to show at the meeting on Global Warming for one day. Used another 80,000 to 100,000 gallons of fuel in A.F. One, his cargo plane to carry his vehicles and traveling kitchen, chiefs and larder, his back up 747 with staff and miscellaneous "security" escort aircraft for when he was in Europe. Paul -

I don't know if the cases and shifter forks are the same in the Uni Shift Duplex is the same as the conventional 2 sticks. The rear box looks different between the B and the image, MACK Uni Shift image I posted is from a MACK N model manual They will hang up in Neutral if you shift hi-lo or lo-hi with the main box in neutral. -
I call them "Blur People" they see life through a flickering movie projector from the 1900's. Nothing clear in life, no purpose and nothing useful to contribute. I've fired people who do what I consider abusing my equipment. I have a simple request, treat my equipment like your grandma;s house. Keep it clean, I'll give you any supplies to keep it clean, no trash on or in it, no spilled coffee or soda in it, you can drink it but if it spills or drips clean it up. No food or papers all over the interior Never smoke in my equipment, your feet belong on the floor not on my dash, doors of seat. I feel if they can't do those few simple things than how can I be sure they'll do the rest of their job right.

TRDL -- 5 speed transmission with 2 speed compound box attached. with aluminum case. L stands for reduced or light weight 5 -- Transmission is called a uni-shift. Interesting with the wood on the dump body, makes sense though. Paul -
Or politicians!! Sadly teachers do not teach more than the test answers....school aid you know. My daughter inlaw (the bleeding liberal) was a teacher. She was making just over 95 K a year. She quite teaching, because working 180 days a year, sometimes 8 hours a day in her mind was more work than she was being paid for. The teachers in her school district all had a teachers aide and a teachers assistant to "help" her. She "taught" 3 classes a day @ 46 minutes each and 1 study hall. Works out to a bit over 3 hours of work a day and the balance was free time to do what ever. The Teachers Aide and Teachers Assistants correct the tests and check home work, pass out materials and such. She felt the job was too demanding and that she deserved at least 150K a year for the hours and stress! I don't remember when I last worked only an 8 hour day. I guess most people see work same as she does. Paul

This article is mostly from the Small Business Association on line news letter from a few months ago. Fits here pretty well. One of the big problems in America today is that a lot of people simply do not seem to care about what they are doing anymore. The level of sloth, laziness lack of personal pride and apathy that we are witnessing in this country is absolutely mind-numbing. Of course this is not true of everyone. There are still many Americans that are extremely hard working, dress appropriately for their job and take great pride in what and how well they do their job. But overall, it really appears that people are not taking as much pride in their work as they once did. Some of the examples that I am about to show you are quite funny. Others are more than just a little bit disturbing. But they all have a common theme. Americans from all walks of life are simply giving up. Whether they are teachers, delivery people or fast food workers, the truth is that there are a whole lot of people out there that seem to have mentally checked out of caring about anything more than their pay check. For example, take a close look at the midterm exam posted below. Does anything stand out to you?... What is undeniable, on the other hand, is that there are a lot of people out there that simply do not bother to care anymore. Watch a postal worker drive her truck on to someone's lawn. She is so lazy that she doesn't even have the energy to take a few steps and place the package at the customer's door... And another postal worker does not even get out of his truck. He just carelessly tosses a package (which could contain something very expensive) toward the customer's home... https://youtu.be/IzhLv0NN5oc What would cause someone to act like that? What has caused so many Americans to no longer take any pride in their work? Lack or Pride and slothfulness is a terrible thing. And it isn't just a few people that are being that way either. This is a national disease. I like how Doctor Ben Carson put it in his recent article on the state of the American work ethic.... "The government controlled public education system has flourished beyond all expectations of your owners. We’ve become a nation of techno-narcissistic, math challenged, reality TV distracted, welfare entitled, materialistic, gluttonous, indebted consumers of Chinese slave labor produced crap who care little about anything that interferes with pursuit of those things they feel owed to them." It really does seem like most people are walking around in a fog these days or waiting for the President or local government to give them more things. Maybe the fact that 70 million Americans are on mind-altering drugs has something to do with it. I really don't know. But unless Americans start taking more pride in their work again and start living their lives with meaning and purpose, it is going to be very difficult to envision a positive future for this country.

Bill Darrow sold and collects Grether items and I seem to recall him having a line on repros. He is a SPAAMFAA member and is / was also listed on the Visiting Fireman Site as of 2010. http://general.visitingfireman.com/vf_listings.php?operation=view&pk0=1385

“It is appalling that after years of saying the study would not make recommendations, DOT officials would release this report—and recommend no change in current law—just days after the White House came out opposing truck productivity increases.” Go figure that decision! Bet you A$$ if the "king" was for the increase than DOT would have been too. IMO

It is air / mechanical, the mechanical link is from the clutch arm to the air shift cylinder on the trans and from the pre select switch on the shifter to a selector on the trans ( for hi or lo range ) From oldmacks This is a listing of transmission options for various B models. Do not consider this to be a total list of transmissions. The explanation of transmission letters and numbers below TR -- 5 speed transmission without compound box attached. TRD -- 5 speed transmission with 2 speed compound box attached. This is called a duplex transmission. TRDL -- Same as above but with aluminum case. L stands for weight reduced or light weight. TRDX -- Same as TRD but with low hole gear. X stands for severe service. TRDXT -- Same as above with the addition of a transfer case for front wheel drive. TRT -- 5 speed transmission with 3 speed compound box attached. This is called a triplex transmission. TRTL -- Same as above but with aluminum case. L stands for weight reduced or light weight. TRTX -- Same as TRT but with low hole gear. X stands for severe service. TRQ -- 5 speed transmission with 4 speed compound box attached. This is called a quadruplex transmission. The numbers following the letters tell sizes and revisions. The last number will tell some important features. 0 -- Transmission is overdrive in high gear The following do not apply to straight 5 speed transmissions 3 -- Transmission is called a mono-shift 30 -- Transmission is called an overdrive mono-shift 5 -- Transmission is called a uni-shift 50 -- Transmission is called an overdrive uni-shift -
Bet he drove pretty closer to the edge though.

After looking for info, I think the photo was captioned wrong it sure does look like a 1947 Volvo PV-444 although Volvo says none were ever exported out of Europe until 1954 or 55. Seems to match the photo. I was thinking of the later one. Scarey in front on a MACK!!
