  1. There was a lot of chat about it on the HCVC site a few years ago. Paul
  2. Just curious, Why is the rebuilder afraid to run / drive it to break it in? Sounds to me like the rings were installed incorrectly or damaged on the piston install or it's sucking oil past the valve guides.
  3. And it's only going to get worst. The people making decisions and laws are people with no concept of real world life.
  4. The Red NJU from Ohio that was for sale on e Bay was the only one I have ever seen. They are rare. Paul

  7. Took the crew at New York National about 40 minutes to clean the track just before the traps. Left a good trail of oil, parts, fiberglass and Poop. Lucky the scatter shield held, you could have lost you feet! Paul
  8. Spent 1 1/2 months in Israel, it was an amazing trip to many museums, battle fields and seeing friends. Paul
  9. In the 1970's when the Bronx was being burned down (close to 97% of the buildings!) FDNY put "J.Bunny" roofs on to protect the crews form stuff being tossed of the buildings at the trucks and crews.

  13. I was told it was tradition from horse drawn days. Another old timer told me so the crew could see what they were up against arriving at a call. Some where I have photos of a open top R model firetruck from the late 60's early 70's.
  14. Hey Larry, this was the crank and blower drive from our 392 Fuel engine in 1972. 90% Nitro Methane @ 6000 r.p.m. Those are the biggest pieces left
  15. My Marmon with 27" diameter tanks, the sending units each read from 33 ohms to 240 ohms. I don't know if the MACKS are similar. But hope this helps some. You could pull a sender and check the Ohms Range I would think. Paul
  16. Wish him a great birthday As for returning from the dead, I was supposedly dead twice last rites in all during my Asian education. I learned from that great man Father Guido Sarducchi that you need to pay for your sins, I was 37 cents short so I was sent back. . . Never have enough to pay and you will live a long long time....
  17. The 1959 according to Bob was kept at station 187 in McCandless from 1985 to the 90's when it was sold. They kept the 1953 MACK which is now a Town Museum piece. It was their first unit, before that all the equipment was in a trailer and a late 30's GMC flatbed for the 17 member dept to fight fires with.
  18. Guy, just a bit curious. Why did a lot the MACKS we saw when we visited, had the headlights moved down to the bumpers. Is it a law for how high the lights can be? Paul
  19. Interesting set up. Paul
  20. AEGIS is a naval anti aircraft, anti missle defense system. Part of Reagan's Star Wars system. Looks like a ship because the super structure and Array was lifted directly from the Arleigh Burke AEGIS equipped Destroyers.
  21. Sure was a good looking unit in it day. There was a lot of pride in them owning that truck! Paul
  22. What were the Haywards set up for? Farm?
  23. That's the brackets for the center tow pin Vocational bumper. My R is bolted direct with no spacers for what Mack on L.I. called an OTR bumper. Paul
  24. The B85FSW that was for sale in Tenn recently as just a cab and chassis that was originally one of 2 MACKS (the other a closed cab built for Peebles F.D. in Allison Park Pa http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/38955-1959-mack-b85fsw/ Here is what it looked like in it's prime. It was sold by the Peebles F.D. to help fund newer equipment, in the early 1990's complete with body to a small V.F.D in Tenn. Than sold to local contractor and the body was scrapped. These pics are from Bob Jeke, Chief of the Peebles Pa. V.F.D. Paul
