My uncle James survived the Japanese attack on the Gunboat Panay on the Yangtze River on Dec 12 , 1937. He transferred to the US Oklahoma to be safer on a ship of the line, only to die on Dec 7, 1941 when the Okie capsized. My uncle Henry died crossing the Rhine in 1945. My uncle Kashmir died when his B-24 went down in the Polisti Oil Field Raid. My dad came home with physical and mental problems from 3 years of combat with the Third Infantry Division. My small hometown of Oyster Bay lost 37 young men in WWII, 23 in Korea. Vietnam cost my town 18. My graduation class was 65 seniors, 9 were KIA in Vietnam, just dumb luck I survived my wounds . Our town always took the soldiers sacrifices very seriously. The lack of even a moment of silence or even a thanks just shows how far down we as a people have gone. Tire issues would cause the wander too with out a doubt. But also since there were "loose cross member fasteners", any body look at the suspension mount brackets for movement? Watts has them ( the owners of this site) , call Barry. You may be able to splice in the parts you need or install the full panel. Depends on what you find as you start to remove the rusted areas. Basic install with some steps left out. Use a spreader clamp or monkey on a stick to hold door opening square, drill out spot welds, remove old rockers, grind area smooth and coat with weld through primer, fit new rockers in and tack weld. Check door clearance and if it's good button weld with mig. Do the button welds from side to side /end to end so the panel doesn't walk, as it will if you weld one side than he other.
