  1. There are apparently 3 versions of the NO. A 1940 version a 1942 /43 version and a 1943 to 1945 version, I think since the specs are very close it is just three different contracts-purchase orders. Power was a military spec EY 707 over head valve gas engine 170 b.h.p. , MACK 5 speed with 5th gear direct, hi and low range transfer case, MACK CR38 and CR39 rear axles with a ratio of 9:02. Front was a FA49 elevated axle ( no ball joints it had a bevel gear drive instead). Borg Warner air brakes, with an electric trailer brake. 160 gallon fuel tank. 2053 built. GVW was a bit over 44,000 lbs. After WWII most if not all in Europe were rebuilt by Corbitt and given to Allies in NATO. According to my info what was in production here when Germany surrendered were finished and put in reserve. Later given to Civil Defense units and a few lucky municipalities. Paul
  2. I think a phone call out of the blue about the truck is something Mr Paige will get some mileage out of with the locals, I'll call back in a few weeks and see. If it was taken to a salvage yard, I personally could see it end up as storage. If it is, than most likely is full of parts and a few valuable cars on top out of harms way. Paul
  3. This is the same one, couldn't be two of them. Who ever did the conversion appears to have been a craftsman. The fit looks almost like a factory build. Paul
  4. I thought so. I have a photo some where of what must be a re cabbed Hendrickson with a 49 to 52 Chevy / GMC cab and a Hendrickson style nose with GMC over the grill. I'll dig it out and post it. Odd looking unit. Paul
  5. I went through the Cape Cod F.D. sight quickly and found what looks like it in the 1957 BB Sandwich fire in the far right. I sent an Email but no response yet . Any info appreciated. Paul
  6. Did Hendrickson ever use the 48 to 53 Chevy cabs on the trucks? Found this in my "box o photos" taken around 1940.
  7. Can't make it to big but looks to be a short wheelbase. Is it at a truck repair or is it a salvage yard?
  8. I looked a one a few years ago in Amityville L.I. It was an old May Flower mover that was converted to a book mobile. Needed everything and more. It would be easier to stretch a COE chassis and slid it under a trailer in the long run. Like my wanting a Pacific M-26 tank hauler I don't see either one in my future. Way to many other projects for my wife to sell when I'm gone. Paul
  9. You can go to NAPA, Tractor Supply or a Sears and get a Flare Nut Crows Foot. With that and a short extension you can tighten it down. Paul
  10. My old DM is a pull start . . . no batteries
  11. I was curious to see if anyone saw the sleepers for the load. Oyster Bay Lumber did it this way all the time. Once in a while the truck would crack a spoke if the ground was soft and the truck bounced. Paul
  12. I called Charlie Paige the promoter of Selinsgrove Speedway about the truck. He recalled it and said a few racers wanted to buy it for a transport / mobile track side shop but it was never ever for sale. Paul
  13. Now , Now.... the "Boy King O" said because of the Republican (b.s. it was his agreement) Sequester last year, we could not afford the 6 million dollars to bring out the 32 million dollars worth of our combat equipment in Iraq. So we walked away from it there, with the Al Quida's promise they wouldn't use it. . . just play the radios a little. You know like the 5 terrorists poor souls he swapped for a deserter. They promised to go home and watch t.v. and read Unicorn stories ..
  14. Air Start cures that.
  15. That and automatics
  16. I'd have to find 2. It's # 2 on my gotta have list.
  17. I wish!! This is a purpose built forest fire rig probably built in the early 50's. The heavy "bump bar" it a New England thing, for literally pushing trees over. Ours are ex military M-35 and still a few GMC CCKW's. Most departments are going to Ford and Dodge Stump Jumpers. Fire-Matic builds most here on L.I. '
  18. Any info on this unit? Ex Military WWII MACK NO Stump Jumper / Brush Breaker. Has a New England / Cape Cod look to the build. Paul
  19. In my yard, thats the only green spot.
  20. The story of my life! Paul
  21. "load it more forward, it'll still slide off"
  22. Answer #1. Don't tailgate a concrete truck....ever. Answer #2. The mix didn't past the slump test. Turn around and we'll try it again on the trunk.
  23. V W owns Skoda.
  24. Not many auto or truck manufacturers see it in North America either. It is a tough haul to buy a plain pick up here with a regular cab, 8 foot bed, 4x4, 3/4 ton... made to actually work for it's keep. Only one here are Dodge . If you can find a salesman interested in a "low commission" sale. Paul
  25. From the inter web.
