  1. Go to this thread. Paul http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/21789-part-scam/
  2. One of the problems with steering wheel repair is cleaning it. The wheel absorbs years of body oil and general grime which will prevent a good bond between the wheel and the repair material. One of the best ways to clean it is to soak it in castrol Purple Power fo 24 hours, wash off with dish washing soap and let air dry. The purple Power probably will remove a lot of the paint so be fore warned about that. Also radius the sharp edges of the crack to blend in the repair and to prevent the cracks from returning. The sharp edge will cause the reappear, a radiused edge, the crack will normally not. The main thing is to get it clean.....oils and dirt are the enemy of epoxy, bondo and paint. Paul
  3. I got this from my NAPA parts supplier. Paul 1) To our politicians: We really could care less about your skewed outlook on the buying public. As a public servant with perks none of us will ever see, you have no clue what goes on at street level. Get behind our counters and experience life as the rest of us do. While 100% of our citizens are struggling to make ends meet, and while we struggle to keep them buying, you ignore everything outside your Washington cocoon except what it takes to get re-elected and to bring down the opposite party. Why are you blind to the fact that as you do so, you bring the rest of us down too? We don’t have campaign dollars to draw from, we have businesses to run which we hope provides us some funds. In addition, the fact that 12 of you alone recently, in a room without external interference, could not even agree on one budget cut to submit to our president is basically saying that our two party system has failed us, and that there is no interest in considering how the next generation (our kids and grandkids) will fix what you broke. While you dickered over which side was right in the budget cutting process, did any one of you even think of us on the street? 2) To our media: Stop reporting bogus, ridiculous and inaccurate surveys and statistics. If you wonder why the public has such a low opinion of our media, look at what you print. Columnists and editorials make more sense than what you report as “news”. And why do you insist on printing ongoing “surveys” telling us day after day how bad things are, how confidence is down and how we should expect the worst. Your drama only provides more reasons the consumer will close his wallet and go home. You make good partners for our politicians: Neither of you understands how much what you say and print affects our customers’ buying habits. There is no doubt you alone are creating a second recession by unnecessarily scaring the daylights out of the buying public each and every day. 3) To our Occupiers: Get organized, make an agenda, and create a definite and specific mission for your group. Camping out in squalor in various cities around the USA serves no one. Without a definite goal and process by which to meet it, you will fail. And you do not belong in New York, Philadelphia or Oakland. You belong in Washington. Remember that unified citizens coordinated for a specific cause in an organized manner can move mountains. How do you think this country was established in the first place? It was not by occupying parks in London.
  4. Now I'm gonna have nite mares.........
  5. Yep. He seems to like the Heavy equipment alot more than the trucks. Paul
  6. I went with his mom to see the "counselor", I sat there fighting of the urge to choke him. He explained to us how America works. Took him down to Ocala with me, had a good talk with my grandson (well, I mostly listened) and set up a game plan. He's out of school in July and was already accepted in Wyo-Tech. Got him an after school and saturday job at H.O. Penn the local Cat dealer fueling up and cleaning their equipment and general shop helper. He's got a real passion for trucks and equipment.. Paul
  7. Thats how I was raised, but it's not old school , it's just plain old family values uncorrupted by the schools or T.V. I was raised by strict parents, L.I. potato farmers on my moms side and baymen on my fathers side. Learned at an early age to work for what you want and that do any job with pride. The two main things they taught was that if you can't afford it you probably don't really need it, and families take care of their own. My sons have the same values and my grand son does too. Although the school "career counselor is trying hard to change that. He wants to go the Wyo-Tech to be a diesel Mechanic. His counselor keeps telling his that manual labor is for emigrants. I won't get political but maybe POGO POSSUM said it be" we met the enemy and he is us". Paul
  8. When you get to my favorite gassers (next to mine!) there are still owned by Mr Koch and his wife a 1960 Studebaker Larl and a 1949 Packard Paul
  9. The second Swindler was just restored, the Black Swindler B car.
  10. Nice and close to me (200 miles) just can't by no more, unless I can live in it
  11. THanks i'll give them a try when we go there , didnt even know Costco did that! Mike, we ran Funnies 4 abreast at National Speedway in 1973 at night. It was Mr.Norms Charger,Barry Setzer's Vega,Jungle Jims Nova and a blank on the 4th car. Insurance company would never allow that now! National was a 300 M.P.H. track,Hamptons Drag A Way was 200/250 depending what lane you were in. The right lane had a dip about half way down.
  12. It was modeled after on at a sand mine here....close to a swamp. LOL Paul
  13. I'll have to give a studio a shot. I know how it was in the pits and on the track, course that was in '72.
  14. Beautiful work!! Here is one of mine done about 5 years ago. Paul
  15. 4" thick is considered minimum here. My slab outside of my shop is 25x25 x 6" thick 4000 psi fiberglass reinforced concrete with an expansion joint at 12' 6" and steel screen to prevent cracking. We did a 6" layer of compacted 3/4 to 1" gravel before the slab to prevent frost heave. Took about 9 yards as I recall and the Fiberglass reinforcement was only $100. more. One thing I wished I did was a slight crown for drainage. The Cat that holds my mail box in my avatar I tugged it all over the slab and no problems. Paul
  16. Told my wife I'd like to go this year and she already was looking for a place for us to stay. Thunder Valley was the farthest we ever went. Our carrier was a 1967 D 500 roll back with a 225 slant 6. Learned a lot of new words that trip. I have "Super 8" films of when we were there,no idea how to get them on VHS or CD though. Paul
  17. A lot was restored including his Dodge Hauler by fans. Don Garlit I believe has his '65 Belvedere in his collection. Paul
  18. I never really thought about it on the B's but your right. My mixer has vinyl on the doors with the Mack logo, but your right its after market. I suggested a non fiber board panel because I've found the quality of what is out there now is poor. The color flakes off and they aren't moisture resistant as the OEM. Paul
  19. Always wanted to go there and to the Marston Mile .....well the Hot Rod Reunion is stiil on and Cackle Fest at E town in May or June I think. Hey Mike, isn't the old Thunder Valley strip near you?? Ran there in 1972 with the Icemaker, beautiful track and surrounding area as I recall. Paul
  20. Nice photo, it's just that damn Euro Grill that kills it. Paul
  21. Me too LOL
  22. Won alot of street races with it in the 70's. My pop set a national record with it in 1963 in E/G. At one point I put in a 427 and a 4 speed for racing on Cross Bay Blvd and North Conduit in Queens. I put the 6 back in it about 12 years ago. When Funny cars and such went "corperate" I stopped watching. Gassers and street cars were always more fun to watch. When I was young we had New York National Speedway, Hamptons Drag a Way, Islip 1/8 strip, Freeport Oval, Islip Oval and Bridge Hampton Road course....all gone by the mid 80's. Now it's 3 hours each way to E town or Atco for 2 or 3 runs. I go in the early morning to the former Grumman plant in Calverton an make a blst or 2 down the closed runway, only thing left is Cruise nites....BLAH! rather buy an English sportscar and a kilt. Paul
  23. Nascar fans didn't forget in 2009 she called us "a bunch of white redneck hill billies". Personally I take that as a compliment!
  24. Tri 5 sedan delieveries were the way to go. They were classes as a commercial vehicle so you could run a 4 speed hydramatic. My 55 is a Bel Air Hard top. Originally had factory air and power windows. Merkle was the L.I. big shot as long as I remember for running with the big boys and sometimes beating them. Paul
