  1. MaxiCruise the top of the torque curve runs from 1100 to max around 1400 rpm, peak H.P. runs from about 1400 to 1800 rpm. Mack felt since most OTR use is around 1400 rpm that puts the most useful torque and power peaks at what they felt was the cruise "zone" when the unit will work less for better economy . said it cuts the need to down shift on the interstate for most situations. Mostly cam /timing and turbo size to move the power band up.
  2. It is a monitor system. Newer video but still most of the same functions as the '97 https://resources.macktrucks.com/videos/mack-trucks-co-pilot-video
  3. Your 100% correct, I misspoke cause I was not paying attention .
  4. Check all the lighting grounds also. A bad ground will cause feed back like you have with the brake lights.
  5. I posted that a while back for the chassis being out of square or bent from the loader hit. The engine could be out of line and when the trans was R and R'd it could not go back in square. Only takes a few degrees mis alignment.
  6. The Tractor Protection valve limits or disables the front brakes. My I.H. farm unit has it as Wet / Dry Brake Control. Theory was it would prevent jack knifes on wet roads. Thats from the age of OTR's have no front brakes at all. Paul
  7. Most of the targeting electronics, flight control computer systems, Vulcan type canons are Western tech. They made changes, improvements but the basic foundation is still our tech. Heli and Fighter Air frames are basic Russian and European based models.
  8. Some cases the seal for the servo motor that engages and disengages the PTO goes bad and oil leaks into the servo motor which causes the motor to lose conductivity. That causes those issues , same as the electric shift two speed rears. . Paul
  9. A lot of U.S. copied technology on the helis and fighter jets. Very interesting watching towards the end with a quick shot of a frigate or destroyer launching torpedos. Dont think any other major navy does that anymore. More effective than rockets that are easily taken out with chain gun fire. Paul
  10. I agree, only automatics I have is in my race cars and Fusion my wife drove. The only two reasons I see for fleets using them is less down time with no burned up clutches, broken axles and other drive train bits, second is minimal training. Boils down to $$$
  11. Holy Crap!! They can barely drive with an automatic, now add two more things for them to attempt to use?Look out for the carnage. Pushing the clutch instead of brake, having to put the shift pattern in eye sight to shift, figuring out when to shift. Add hills and backing up to the mix and there would be a ton more head holders sobbing on the road side.
  12. Well at least I won't be the only one who the member keeps flagging the posts as offensive and reporting to Barry now that David is in his sights . Pheeeweee
  13. they are not an issue if you do following thing. Have the head light re aimed. The LEDs have a different beam pattern. If you put them in with out having the re aimed you will blind on coming traffic. Put them in my Mamon and first night had most everybody flashing me to dim my lights that were not on brights. Looked at the paper work with the lights which clearly stated to have them re aimed to prevent the issue I had.
  14. I don't feel it really attracts idiots. Those bad as in may be are the largest part of the available labor pool We are all getting older with no real people who will ever have the skill set that we have or the pleasure that we (at least I do) get from driving. It was / is always a bit more that a payday to do what i do. Heck most mechanics at dealers can't drive sticks and nobody even teachers drivers how to use one. Most manufacturers don't even make them. Paul
  15. My old JD , the '40 ULA, '46 knuclehead and '48 WLA all rode and sounded just like the new one and didn't really ride much different. Bought a 650 Triumph years ago and also bought a Honda CBX run rings around my H.D.'s just didn't like them the way you sat on them. Even had a Buell with the V-Rod twin for a few years no better than my 71 Sporty. My personal feelings are ride what you like, don't bash other riders choices and get along with other riders. Paul
  16. I have three H.D.'s a 1950 Hydra Glide pop bought new, a 1971 XLH I bought new and a 1986 Softtail Custom I bought new plus my wifes 883 Sporty. Went to the Harley dealer in Richmond on my '50 just to look, first thing the millennial salesman said to me was "are you trading in that old pile of shit for a good bike?" I suggested that is not to cozy up to someone who's been riding only Harley Davidsons for over 50 years and stick with a career asking if they want fries with their order. Pulled a roll out and told the manager that Honda Boy just cost you a cash sale on two bikes. Was still yelling at the Millennia F' k up when I pull out of the lot. There attitude got them where they are today by catering to the group that buys a 20 grand bike on credit and 10 grand worth of clothes to look "bad" and pis on the loyal ones. . . kinda like Volvo does to the Mack owners like us.
  17. 1073 built over ten year span.
  18. This was only 25 or 30 yards to hook up the trailer, finally the yarder guided him in like a Carrier LSO.
  19. If all your issues started when the accident damage was so called repaired, I would go back to that issue and take your self and a helper and measure the chassis for square and twist. The clutch issues could be the result of a bent or misaligned chassis and the miss could actually be a result of that stress. The chassis dimensions are available from MACK. That would either eliminate or confirm any misalignment of the engine, trans and such caused by the hit.. In my opinion there has been so much misdiagnosis and parts thrown at it, that the original cause(s) of your issues may be lost. Might be best to review your repairs to date and start again with the basics. Just my opinion from 45 years of dealing with others misdiagnosis' in my shop.
  20. Because in "new speak" they are now called "power transfer assemblies"
  21. Watched a "driver" who was not able to back up just the tractor with out getting all crossed up. Would have liked to watch his antics with a trailer hooked up.
  22. A wonderful photo montage of the newest seat warmers misadventures on the road
  23. Saw it in Hemmings a while ago. Looked like the work was nicely done.
