  1. Leslie, Congrats! See if you can find a facility where you can "rent time" to practice. I was able to rent time at a local facility to practice the "skills" portions (straight line, offset, alley/dock, and parallel parking). Hardest part for me was the pre-trip test. I remember seeing an article a while back that mentioned the only way to get a CDL was through a certified school. P.S. I know a place where you can rent a trailer....
  2. Welcome to BMT and nice F! Cue THE video for Mike69mackman!
  3. Hidden eBay IDs are good and bad. Sniping happens on GovBid too. And don't get me started on Craigslist....more problems than not. My "CL account" is "frozen" and I can't access to add or delete postings (and I think any reponses to my ads are not delivered to my email). All I get from CL are automated replies sending me to CL forums for answers. CL was a good idea but too many abusers.
  4. Mike, I like your idea but eBay "codes" the bidder's nickname so you cannot tell who is bidding.
  5. Our township had Halloween last Sunday (3p-5p). They always have it the Sunday before and during daylight hours. If you want to "participate", you are to turn on the porch light. We stopped giving candy many years ago...after we had over 100 kids. The kids were "bused" in from other areas. If it was just the kids (10-20) in the subdivision, we would not have an issue. One year a guy rode his four wheeler pulling a big wagon full of kids, stopping at each house along the street. BTW, the little b....ds still ring the door bell even if the porch light is not on.
  6. I agree with BCR when installing a new/reman turbo. May not be a bad idea if the truck has been sitting for year or so.
  7. I do not have an opinion (surprise surprise). I do appreciate "someone else" searching for items and posting the results. I do search on my own but sometimes amazed at what others find. Many of the items are too far away, too expensive, or just not interested. As for eBay, I usually bid what I want to pay and if I get it OK, if not...I will get over it.
  8. ECD, Do you know what model fits this tractor? Try searching www.tractorhouse.com www.fastline.com Update: TractorData.com shows MF loaders 1040 and 1055 fit this tractor. The 461 was made in Turkey and uses a Perkins 3.3L 3cyl Diesel engine. Update #2: There is a video on YouTube...search for "Massey Ferguson 461". It shows a Bush Hog M346 loader installed. The dealer mentioned in the video (Mast Tractors Sales is located in Winesburg, OH. Sorry can't post the link (IE11 ).
  9. With all the work done on this truck/engine (excellent btw ), I would hope you rebuilt the engine.
  10. I was thinking the same thing last week...been awhile since Mark posted. I am with the rest of you....hope he is just busy and nothing serious happened to him or his family. Miss seeing your posts. Hurry back!
  11. Something I do and recommend....when starting the engine... Manual fuel shutoff - hold the shutoff closed (no fuel) and crank the engine until you have oil pressure, then give it fuel, and let it idle for a few minutes. Electric (key) fuel shutoff - crank the engine and after it starts, let it idle for a few minutes and you have oil pressure. The oil system is designed to send oil to the turbo first. Never rev (accelerate) the engine without oil pressure. Some checks...pull off the intake and exhaust pipes. Look for any evidence of oil on the fins. Also check the fins for rubbing/wear. Spin the wheels by hand and check for free/easy movement and move the shaft up and down and sideways to check for bearing wear.
  12. JT, Chebbie is looking good! Thanks for the explanation.....tell Sandy "hi".
  13. 1990 would be near the end of the E6s. Perhaps Mack decided to incorporate the 5" turbo on the later engines. I left Mack in 1986 for greener pastures (so I thought).
  14. Heck Tom...the forecast for PA is high of 40 with ssssssnow showers. 52 sounds balmy! Am going to try and get the MH in "winter storage" this weekend.
  15. This is turning into Leversole's "pimp my ride"!
  16. Turbocharged engines are developed as a system (inlet, fuel, combustion, and turbo) using various components and settings. As I previously stated, increasing the exhaust diameter will yield little if any increase in horsepower. The best way to determine any change is to put it on a chassis dyno, measure the power with stock exhaust system then remeasure with new system. My bet is the change will be minimal. As for the 4" exhaust...when I started working at Mack in 1985 (after spending years at the CAT house in engine development), I asked the question "why does Mack use a 4" exhaust system." The answer was "because EPA states a minimum of 4" to be used for the horsepower setting." My response was, "EPA sets a minimum, not maximum." During the development/evolution of the E6 I doubt anyone thought about putting a larger outlet turbo on the engine. The E7 was just being designed and if I remember correctly, it was initially going to use a 4" outlet turbo. I suggested changing to a 5" on the E7 for all ratings. The rest is history. To retrofit an E6 with a 5" outlet turbo would require "resizing" the turbo to get the best efficiency. That's my story. BTW, it is interesting to note the engine label....1990 standards, built 05/1996 and set to 1979 EPA standards. Very interesting!
  17. A larger exhaust is not going to hurt but doubt if you will see any appreciable gain in horsepower. You are restricted at the turbo and the 4" pipe under the cab. The only gain will be the "curb horsepower" = visual appeal. Post some pics.
  18. Does one need to connect the air dryer heater if it is not being used in freezing temperatures? I been thinking about installing a Bendix AD-IP dryer (spin on cartridge).
  19. Nice MH...cue "the" video....
  20. I'm beginning to regret posing for the BMT "family" pictures. The FBI, FAA, and TSA likely have our mugs on their bulletin boards. It was probably gearhead trying to land on the PA green stamp that alerted the authorities to our activities. BTW, glopped is past tense for "glop".
  21. Nice video...thanks for posting. And a 2-stroker too.
  22. Tom, Nice pics of the country side. Thanks for taking and posting them. Hmmm, chicken....yum yum. I think you should have a BMT cookout. BTW, did the Head Driving Instructor have dirty knees? Just wonderin'.
  23. Thanks Glenn. I will give it a try.
  24. Mack Museum email.... mack.museum@macktrucks.com
  25. Have you contacted the Mack Museum with your VINs and questions? Might be a good place to get answers.
