'73 Mack Restoration Update
Derrico replied to Derrico's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Hi BOBWhite, for now I'm going to keep those Dayton type. They will get sand blasted and painted white with chrome stemco seals. -
It's been a while since I posted some pics of my restoration, but I have some progress to share. I completely rewired the lights. The doors are just hanging in place for now. the windows are in with new gaskets. The wipers are on. Some of the new chrome is on. I need to buff more of the paint and put lights on the back. The lowboy trailer is also done. Happy New Year to all! .....Frank

'73 Mack Restoration Update
Derrico replied to Derrico's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Hi Paul in Australia, I will go with an oak deck on the lowboy. 2 1/4 in. on the main deck and ramps, 1 in. on the top. Paul in PA, I used Dupli-Color engine enamel in gold for the Maxidyne. Thank you both for the positive comments! -
I want to thank all the forum members for their continued support in my restoration. Your comments are appreciated!! Here is an update as of today. The Mack is getting ready for paint, the trailer is coming along, it is going to be a nice set up when done. It will remind me of the old days when I drove a winch Mack/Hyster lowboy for a living.

Update on the '73 Mack Restoration
Derrico replied to Derrico's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I bought the truck from a man in Kentucky. It came from an Air Force base in S.C.. It was used by Lockheed/Martin as a refueller. The man I bought it from was going to make it a dump truck. I plan on making it back into a tractor and pull a lowboy with it. It is going to be my show truck. Somewhere along the way it was cut down to a single axle. The rear end and rear cross member have been changed.- 32 replies

Hi Doubleclutch, I drove a lowboy when I was a young man. All our trucks were yellow on green. I like your pic, but I am going to stick with yellow on green. -

Hello forum members, I know it's been a while since I posted an update. I have been working on the Mack. Today was a beautiful day in central Wisconsin so I took the Mack out for a ride down the road as it is. Here are some pictures. It's going to be painted yellow with a green chassis. Please let me know what you think. Best Regards, Frank

The Mack came to me from Kentucky out of South Carolina. It was owned by Lockheed Martin and was on an Airforce base as a refueling truck. It is pretty solid and will require only minimal body work before being repainted. I will pipe the exhaust out the back. The previous owner planned on making it a dump truck. Some ware along the way it lost it's tandem axle and became a single axle. I will get a fifth wheel for it and a small lowboy trailer and it will be our show truck.

Hi Bob, you got that right. It must be that we have the time and resources to do these things at last. My wife bought the '73 Mack for my 73rd. birthday! I drove a '66 R lowboy for 10 yrs. for a big road builder back when I was a young man. Farmed and had an excavating company and now semi-retired. Enjoying it all!!

Good morning, they both have a steel dash. I have the measurements for mine. I will double check the doner. Price is right they are scraping the doner so there should be other parts I can use. This is going to be a fun project! Thanks for all the help! -
