Here's the official release. LAS VEGAS (March 24, 2011) – With a focus on continuous improvement, Mack Trucks, Inc. today introduced a series of enhancements to its industry-leading MACK® Granite® conventional straight trucks and the heavy-haul Titan by Mack model. The announcements were made at the 2011 CONEXPO-CON/AGG show in Las Vegas. In line with its well-established tradition of application excellence, and building on the success of the top-selling heavy-duty Class 8 conventional straight truck in the United States,* Mack debuted a medium heavy duty version of its Granite model. The Granite Medium Heavy Duty (MHD) is designed to meet the needs of customers, like some municipalities, who don’t put their trucks through all the rigors Granite models can handle – customers for whom a lighter spec gets the job done. “In the current economic environment, companies are taking an even harder look at how much truck they truly need,” said Curtis Dorwart, Mack vocational products marketing manager. “Our new Granite Medium Heavy Duty delivers just the right amount of Mack’s legendary strength, durability and reliability, along with valuable weight and cost savings.” The Granite MHD is available in both axle-forward and axle-back configurations, is powered by a Cummins ISL9 EPA 2010-certified engine and is offered with an Eaton manual or Allison automatic transmission. Mack also announced that both its Granite Axle Forward and Granite Axle Back™ models can now be ordered with a 36-inch flat-top sleeper equipped with a 30 by 80-inch mattress, curtain, bunk restraint, under bunk storage and cup holder – as well as rear and side window options. “We’ve seen a considerable increase in the number of vocational customers expanding their operations beyond regional sites,” Dorwart said. “The new Mack Granite sleeper is ideal for customers in any market working to meet the federal hours-of-service requirements.” Further enhancements to the Mack Granite series include a new headliner console, optional one-piece windshield, and updated Champion Level trim package with button-tuck vinyl and ultraleather seats that delivers the comfort and styling drivers desire at no extra charge over its predecessor. The new Champion Level trim package and one-piece windshield are also available in the Titan by Mack model. A cab-mounted exhaust option available in all Granite models and a clear back-of-cab assist Mack body builder partners. Customers also now have a new Allison automatic transmission option – the 3000 series – for the Granite model. “In recent years, the trucking industry has been hit hard by the worst recession since the Great Depression, but Mack never stopped investing and innovating – it’s what our customers expect,” said Kevin Flaherty, Mack senior vice president, U.S. and Canada. This truck is sitting in Macungie at one of the off site truck storage lots. I'm not sure the model.

I heard from the saleman that Martin is trading in the MH's for the new CXU's. The MH's were the last new Mack's they bought. They had bought some used CH's but the rest of the fleet has been International. Looks like they are buying some Mack's due to International's performance.

Mack lost the contract to International. I heard the International Pendot trucks were all to be delivered by November but that has not happened. I understand International now has to pay a fee to Penndot because they are late. It is standard on larger orders to have fees for late deliverly. We are hopefull to get the next Pendot order. I hear International is in real trouble with the engines. A salesman told me some Mack's we are demo'ing in International fleets are getting 1 mpg better. They changed the welding of the body and they started to fail. Then they went bankrupt and Mack was stuck repairing the body.

1 of 12 ran down the line today. It's a baby blue CXU sleeper. I've seen some old Martin's CH's and MH's on Rt 78.

The first Titan with an Allison was built two weeks ago. I understand it is going to be a pusher. It's the 5th Titan this company has bought.

Communication from Mack News... "Not many 16-year-olds get a chance to test drive a Mack truck for their birthday. But if your last name is Mack, well, that could make it a little easier. Last week, Alex Mack, the great-great grandson of Mack Trucks, Inc. founder Jack Mack, joined several members the Mack family on a special tour of the Macungie Plant and the new Mack Customer Center in Allentown. Alex drove two different Pinnacle models on the customer center test track – first a day cab, then a highway model pulling a loaded trailer. He also rode along in a Pinnacle for a simulated road test in Macungie’s dynamometer room. “I enjoyed seeing how the trucks were made and hearing stories about my great-great grandfather, but driving the trucks was the highlight of my day,” Alex said. He was also impressed with the size of the Macungie Plant, which has nearly one million square feet of space under one roof. During the plant tour, Macungie employees were busy assembling the last of a 475-truck order for UPS. The visitors got to see electrostatic painting, cabs lowered onto chassis, tires mounted on rims – and the finished product, ready for testing and the final quality check. Alex is a sophomore at Emmaus High School, which is located just a few miles from the Macungie Plant, and he enjoys things most 16-year-olds do – riding his dirt bike and playing video games. He also likes studying chemistry and assembling machines. His father, Thomas B. Mack, had requested the tour as a special birthday gift for him. In addition to Alex and his father, other family members on the tour were John Michael “Skip” Mack and Jack C. Mack, both grandsons of the founder, and Jack C.’s son, Jack A. Skip worked several jobs at Mack’s “plant 5C” in Allentown from 1955-1960, including painter, welder and machine shop operator. Jack A. works for Haines & Kibblehouse, a loyal Mack customer in the construction business. After the tour, Jack C. expressed his pride in the company and its products. “We are all proud of Mack trucks,” he said. It’s the best truck in the world, and it’s put together by people who care.”"

We are currently running an order for the US Army. There are only a few trucks on the order. I don't know the plans for them. We also just built a few more trucks for Iraq.

Mexico Export is different, you can get an MP7 or MP8. It has EGR but no DPF. It's my understanding you cannot get an MP7 (Euro III) export. I was told for simplicity and the terrain the trucks drive the MP8 was more desirable. Australian are exported to New Zealand, not sure about anywhere else. in Europe or Asia. I know US Mack's are exported to Russia.

They filmed the show the end of October in Macungie. Denny's disguise was pretty poor, 5 o'clock shadow and a hat. Everyone knew it was Slagle, but they tried to keep up the ruse. The camera men would say it was a reality game show.
