  1. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll ask my local chapter to see what they've done, too. When I find one that works I'll post it here.
  2. Howdy, everybody. I've got myself an obscure truck to restore that I'd like to get titled and registered. I've got the title signed over from the last owner and a bill of sale. However, the DMV has been giving me a hard time about its curb weight, and they claim that a certified scale weight is the only way to get it. It does technically start and drive, but it's in no shape to drive on the road to get to a scale. Besides, it's currently in Ohio until I can arrange shipping for it. Now, in my state (Washington), the law that specifies the determination of scale weight is WAC 308.96A.101. This lists five other methods besides a certified scale to obtain the weight. I've tried pointing this out to the clerks at the DMV, but none of them will hear any of it. Which means I can't get it registered. Which isn't optimal. So, a couple of questions. Firstly, has anyone here had any luck with a particular Washington DMV/DOL office when it comes to registering old iron? Secondly, what have you all done to get the weight of non-runners? Would something like the general factory spec sheet work? And to clarify, I was not able to locate a data plate with the curb weight on it; only the GVW. If worse comes to worst, I was just going to have it towed to a scale once I get it here, then finally get it registered, but that costs more than I'd like to spend. So, any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, all!
  3. I had noticed the doors and floor panels, but a buddy of mine has a donor cab that’s not in bad shape. The difference in fan and shroud height is what really raised some red flags for me. So I figured I’d ask here. And I’m glad I did, all the info is much appreciated - I definitely think I’ll pass on this one. Besides, I’ve got enough projects as it is! 😅 Thanks again, y’all!
  4. This is great information; thank you so much! I’ll look into it a bit further and see if the owner can give me the exact model name. For over 1800 having been built, “one of three” does seem kind of weird. Maybe he’s got details…
  5. Hi all, A guy near me is selling a “1950s Mack B75 with a Factory Turbocharged Thermodyne.” He claims it’s one of three. The cab is *quite* rough, but the price doesn’t seem too bad, if it’s actually that rare. I’m just a little skeptical, since I didn’t think those old Thermodynes were really set up for turbos. How can one tell if it’s actually a factory setup? I was going to set up a day here soon to go look at it, since it’s being stored a few hours from where I live, so anything to keep an eye out for, telltale serial numbers, or good bargaining chips would be much appreciated. While I don’t typically collect old Macks, I just can’t turn down the opportunity to bring something uncommon to the next truck show! 🙂 Thank you all! Here’s the link to the listing.
  6. Greetings, fellow truck enthusiasts. My name’s Sean, and I’m kinda new here. I’m posting because I may have the opportunity to purchase a rare, Canadian-built straight truck. Unfortunately, it’s located just east of Ottawa, ON, and I live in Spokane, WA. And since I’m currently studying for my engineering degree, I can’t travel to Ottawa to physically inspect the truck, help load, or fill out paperwork, so it would have to be done remotely. I know it’s inconvenient, but I’ve been searching for an example like it for some time now, and I’d hate to miss out on such an opportunity. I was hoping that if any of you have imported some old iron in the past, you might be able to share some of your knowledge or point me in the right direction to get the proper documents, talk to the right people, find a reliable hauler, etc. Any other need-to-know information or advice would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance! Best, Sean
