Rebuilding 2002 ETECH 460P ccrs ideas
The Heinz replied to BottleHauler84's topic in Engine and Transmission
I only have a 300HP and 460 HP VIN to compare, but the turbos are the same, nozzles different. GRANTED, the VINS I'm using are a 2000 and 2001 truck. The EUP's are identical as well. When it comes to lifters, what are the better ones to use, steel or ceramic? The latest and greatest supersession is ceramic tipped if that means anything. -
Do you have an air leak on the transmission anywhere or in the bellhousing area? mDrive's are air operated, so if you have any kind of leak at all, it won't shift correctly. When's the last time you changed the air dryer cartridge? We see progressive failure all the time due to the air dryer not being serviced.

Why the reliable dipstick is sliding into obsolescence
The Heinz replied to kscarbel2's topic in Odds and Ends
Anything made during and after Covid times has been exceptionally unreliable, it isn't just Volvo running things down, it's everywhere. Recalls have always been existed, but we're seeing a ton of warranty work everywhere. That being said, Chrysler never had a good reputation when it came to electrical systems, and I say that as a MOPAR fan. I've had sensors fail on my 2016 Ram 1500, so why would I trust my truck to tell me what my oil level was? Their spokespeople can say what they want, the main goal of removing the dipstick was to make people have it serviced at their dealerships. The 8HP70 transmission in my truck has been reliable for over 200k miles, but it is a sealed unit just like this new Hurricane engine, and is so much of a pain to service that it's best for me to have my transmission shop service it for me. This engine is also apparently really difficult to work on; I was told that replacing the thermostat was an absolute pain, and while I have no proof other than what I've heard online, I believe them. Looking up a picture of the engine, it's difficult to find any of the major parts I would look for while inspecting it at a car lot. I'll pass on this engine, not like I could afford anything newer than a 1996 Honda Civic at this point anyways. -
I've gone down the old off-highway truck rabbit trail lately, and have fallen in love with Pacific trucks that ruled the woods of BC. I don't know if you have ever dealt with any Pacifics, but they have absolutely won my heart from watching the old film videos of those trucks hauling loads of logs taller than my house.

Right Hand Drive Anthem
The Heinz replied to mrsmackpaul's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Yeah, Volvo hasn't been kind to Mack, neither has emissions requirements. Emissions hasn't been kind to anyone. -
Right Hand Drive Anthem
The Heinz replied to mrsmackpaul's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I've seen some UPS Anthems lately, but the UPS center in our area went away from them as fast as they could retire their fleet of CXU's. They were constantly having problem after problem, many ended up in our shop. I know a guy that works with them moving their equipment around, and he said they hated their Macks. -
Impact had Big Cam II listed, I didn't know if that made a difference or not, my bad! Learning something new every day here.

I'm no expert, but I don't know if I'd recommend tuning and deleting an MP8. Believe me, I despise emissions even if I make a lot of money off of it, but deleting a semi truck that is liable to be pulled and inspected by DOT or God forbid EPA, you'd have rather kept the garbage. Also know it would void any warranty your truck would have, and dealers likely wouldn't touch the truck at all. Even if you're just trying to tune the engine for more power, understand the transmission is intended for a certain power rating, and going above that can lead to issues down the line. Ask the 6.7 Cummins tuners when they throw a tune on the engine and start adding power; it usually ends in a Billet transmission rebuild. There's probably more reasons not to mess with tuners on these trucks, but I wouldn't know as I am not a super experienced tech. Everything I mentioned is what I've observed and learned from talking with others about the topic.

1982 Mack R767ST, build date 3/3/1982. Cummins Big Cam 350, Eaton RT11609A. Original color may be white? Impact has a "CAB IN WHITE" listing, which is as much as I could find about paint. If you want more information, like previous owners and all, you might be able to call the Mack Museum with the VIN and get more than I can help with. An R700 with a Cummins and Eaton, sounds like a really cool combo in all honesty. As far as I'm aware, the Big Cam 350s were very good engines, but I know from experience they sound really good!

I'll try to look this up Monday once I get to work, online VIN search only shows it as a 1982 Mack R.

Dew points and humidity are extremely common to us down here too, and man can it be brutal. A week or so ago, we had pretty high temps but with low humidity, and it was pretty livable just like the people from the western US say. But this week, this week has been awful.

That will absolutely do better than that plastic Volvo. Be sure to let us know when they sell the Volvo while your Freightshaker keeps rolling lol.

2007 Mack granite blowby & major oil leak
The Heinz replied to WaldoMack's question in Mack Truck Q & A
We've actually got a truck with an MP7 in the shop puking blowby. Long story short, it needs an engine due to crank scoring and no/low compression in two cylinders. Cranks in MP series engines are not meant to removed according to our service team. Short story long: In typical dealership fashion, we chased low oil pressure faults first for some reason and not the massive amount of blowby coming out the breather. The tech was angry when he found out they were wasting his time. Found the crank scored and bearings trashed, but the customer's tech came out and said to just roll new bearings in. Didn't magically stop the blowby though. To actually try to answer your question, it could be time for an in-frame, but I'd listen to Joey first and look into the CCV before you go ripping the engine apart. Other than that, we've seen a bad air compressor charge the crankcase to the point where it appeared as blowby. Long story short for that, we installed two different engines by the time the truck left our lot. Yes, it was an absolute mess. -
Best of luck with the new job. I'm sure you'll find the Volvo to be pretty comfortable, and ought to be very similar in power/pulling ability given there wasn't much different under the hood between the Mack and this Volvo. As for the previous company making poor decisions, it's a sad reality that is becoming so much more common. We see an abundance of deathtraps that don't belong on the roads, we quote the repairs, and they decline. I've thought about calling the local DOT guy and ratting them out, but I figured I would let due process take its course. Companies also really enjoy not taking care of their employees, then wonder why their new-hires won't show back up after a few days; "this pay ain't worth it."

Mostly the same, and many parts cross over.
-
Mack most certainly won't have any glass for your truck in stock unfortunately. I'd call some of the bigger fleet-style glass companies in your area. They might be able to come up with something. Or you could get up with Watts Truck Center, they've been a beast in helping me with old Mack questions.

We like to use ATRO kits for Camelbacks, and I tend to use ATRO when possible because I know they make a good product. Plus having a kit with all the hardware inside one box makes it much easier for us.

Me and Joey are experiencing nearly the same weather, and I can assure you it still sucks even if you're a youngin like me. I've done very little and am already sweating like a preacher in a strip club, and the air is as heavy as Portland's skinniest feminist. I need to ask my granddad what he and his family did before they had AC, I genuinely wonder how farmers and laboring people didn't fall out more often than they did.

I remember looking this up for someone else on here and found the old E6 lifter superseded to the newer E7 one. I'll edit this once I find the part number and whether they're available through Mack right now. I think PAI had them when I searched last. EDIT: Found it: part number 72GC357 supersedes to 20705596, which is currently available through Mack. PAI does not have any of these anymore it seems. Also to note, we can only order them in batches of 12 because why would it make sense?

Governor Spring Replacement time!
The Heinz replied to Full Floater's topic in Engine and Transmission
Depends how close you are to Knoxville, TN. I've been told by friends in the area that City Diesel is exceptional at anything diesel, especially pump and injector rebuilds. -
Any dealer should be able to give you info as long as it has a 13 digit VIN. If it's old enough to have a 10 digit, it will depend on how knowledgeable they are. For instance, looking up parts for a 10-digit was near impossible for me because someone threw away all the old parts books, because "why would we keep these? They don't make us money any more."

That or the Kenly 95. Sure it's huge and has some neat display trucks, but it's not worth stopping at unless you like spending a premium on whatever you get from the truck store.
-
If anyone's in the Kenly, NC area heading up or down I95, I recommend Big Boy's. It's the only truck stop I've been to (I haven't been to many non-chain truck stops, lots of Pilots and Loves) in NC with a family-run food joint. And they kill it with good ole Southern class. If you're not in a truck, there's several nice restaurants in the Selma/Smithfield area; I personally recommend Zach's Char-Grill in Smithfield, family-run, cheap, fast, and great hamburgers, and the Chicken Barn for great chicken at a little bit of a premium.

E7 460 Jake Brake Oil Pressure Loss?
The Heinz replied to longshipconstruction's topic in Engine and Transmission
The 690 model being discontinued is absolutely true, and you can thank Volvo for that. Jacobs told me outright it was Volvo that produced them, and now obsoleted them without a backup. This topic is exactly what brought me to this forum in the first place, we had a 2000 RD that had top end damage thanks to someone not torqueing the rocker shaft correctly, ruining the head and the jakes. The customer ended up buying a used one from somewhere and sending it in.
