  1. I used one of these for the seal, but the race for the inner bearing must have been spinning for a while, as it had 1/16- 1/8 of slop. It looks like they dont make them that thick. The one for the seal was paper thin.
  2. BTW it turns out this has a swapped axle, with much larger bearings (572 inner, 77375 outer). Can’t find anything that matches.
  3. I contacted a few shops around Denver, none returned with a quote. Real man labor is in huge shortage here. Hope the JB holds. But at least its painted!
  4. I didn’t know there were sleeves available! I JB welded it in (I know….) just to get it out of the shop, as that’s worked on excavator bushings pretty well for me to avoid line boring. I will have to go this route once it starts leaking again.
  5. Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been really busy with the paint job. I ordered new bearings, just to see if the race and seal will fit in there snug. Yes, like Geoff said, i can only fine outboard hubs (I assume that means the hub slides over the lug studs) compared to bolt on. If that race is loose, how bad would it be to weld in the race haha? I bet the heat might make it crack again. JB weld? I will look into machining as well, that makes good sense. I would love to be able to fit super single 13” wheels, which are really rare for Budds, so the back wheels and tires match the front. But that may be asking for too much. I will see what’s out there for a 23k Meritor axle. I will measure the outer spindle tomorrow to see if they are common hubs. Thank you guys for all your help. The Mack dealer just says good luck, and they cant even get a built sheet for my truck because its too old. Cat can rebuilt a 1975 dozer at the dealership, but Mack could care less about anything over 15 years old.
  6. No the local dealer can not find the hub from the parts numbers, as they have been discontinued. I wish I had a part number off of it.
  7. Hi everyone, thanks for all the info in the forum. So I decided to go through and paint my 1986 RM6864X over the winter, but when i got into the rear axle to fix a seal, there was evidence of a bearing failure, and the previous owner tried to put it back together without replacing the hub. The hub bearing is cracked, and the seal face on the axle housing was pretty damaged. All I can find out about this axle is that its a 6.14 meritor according to old notes on my parts manual No tags anywhere giving the model. Getting a new hub is near impossible, but I would love to figure out if there’s a replacement that fits Pilot wheels instead of Budd. All the part numbers in my book are obsolete. I guess the main thing is retaining the axle with a speedi-sleeve (anybody use one?) and finding the hub. The local dealer can get the bearings and seal. The front of the spindle is about 3 1/16” in diameter. Any idea about what’s out there that fits these axles? Or perhaps the axle model? Or contact the Mack museum? Thank you! Tristan
  8. They are broken apart pretty bad, I’m procrastinating in taking apart the terminals as it’s still working. Might have to wait for winter weather.

  10. A saw these two Mack’s parked at the Ritchie bros yard, I assume they are going up on the early October auction. Which i think is the Rocky Mountain event. I am not affiliated, I saw them dropping something off. -Tristan
  11. Yes, they crack very easily. I ruined one with my head leaning against it working on the starter.

  14. First post, thanks for having me here! I have a retired mountain plow truck RM4x4, that i turned into a clumsy daily driver for my mobile mechanic service. I really could use a manual or maybe some people know. What are the correct tire size front and rear for the 4x4s? Mine has 12R24.5 on the back 445/65R/22.5. Just to make sure it don’t blow up running gear. Does the transfer case need to be filled up to the upper drain hole? Seems like an excess amount of oil. Also What type? And finally, what’s this power terminal strip called? Both of mine have cracked to pieces, even with 35k miles on it. All I’ve found online are terminal strips that have a common power, and these are all individual. PS anyone happen to have some fenders? I wont hold my breath.
