  1. I do understand that different drivers and what the truck is used for will affect the brake shoe wear.Im just trying to get an idea if the mileage on the clock is in any way genuine. The brake shoes have 1982 stamped on them and theres no sign of wear on the drums,no lines or no wear lip,the drums are also date stamped 03/17/1982..Thats on all of them. The truck drives great with the brakes being sharp ,stopoing the truck quickly and no drama or shakeing....to be honest I didnt measure them as I wouldnt get new drums in the time frame we have and the way the truck stops I dont think it needs them.... Paul
  2. Wow great picture.Keep him at it.25 years ago I was restoring 4X4s and cars and my then 5 year old son was always in the garage with me He'd get covered in oil and dirt and his mom would explode at me...25 years later he's a time served mechanic and last year he got his degree in mech.engineering through his job and was appointed engineering manager. He has not left where he came from behind and still picks up the tools with the guys he works with. When appointed I turned to his mom and said"bet your glad he came in covered in oil now".....keep your granson at it,great things await him..... Paul
  3. Welcome to BMT...Any dump trucks Iv ever drove had a sight tube on the side of the tank. You could clean off the tank around the filler cap and open it then dip it with a clean stick or small metal bar.It should not be full to the top but close. As the guys said If its over full it will dump out some oil....messy!!! Paul
  4. Yeah, the previous owners swear she done very little work but we are trying to prove it.On average how many miles would a set of shoes last? I know lots of things vary brake wear but if these are the orignal shoes and are say half worn then maybe we could get an idea if the click is right... It's just a hunch.... Paul
  5. Joey, shoe number is 3222 G 973.I dont have pictures but I think my son has.The shoes are 13mm in the middle a little less at the ends.We are just trying to get an idea of the Mileage...If these are the shoes it came with how worn they are might give us a clue to the mileage The clock says 154,345 Km which is around 98,000 miles. The hours clock shows 2,234.We are just looking to somehow prove the mileage... Paul
  6. We have been busier than a one legged man in an a$$ kicking contest....So can anybody tell us how thick are the brake shoes when new? Im asking because we have been told by previous owners that this truck has very small mileage but nobody can prove that. When we stripped the brakes the shoes are a half inch thick on all brake sets.So what you may ask, well all the brake shoes are date stamped 1982, the year the truck rolled off the line.....In fact the rad, intercooler, spring hangers, alternator, diffs, water pump, thermostat houseing, wheels, injector pump, springs and Dayton spokes are all stamped with dates in 1982.....just how original is this truck???? Paul
  7. We will need those beers soon!!!! Paul
  8. Hi all,Iv been meaning to do this for a few weeks now but just been too busy. The transformation of our Cruiseliner to how we want it began about 8 weeks ago.We got the use of a machinery shed on a farm through a friend of a friend and work on the truck is going on at a break neck speed. We working every hour we have to spare on the truck.....So what have we done??? So far we have reconditioned the rad and Intercooler, new wheel seals, checked over the brakes, steering, removed a homemade hitch off the rear and remade the frame to original lenth, rebuit the 5th wheel, striped the frame back to bare metal and repainted it along with a thousand other small parts and painted the engine and gearbox and fitted new alternator.....My brother who is retired,my son and myself are exhausted!!!!! We have use of the shed for another few weeks and hope to get the cab painted and chase down a few electrical faults....Heres a few pics... Paul
  9. It sure liooks a beautiful truck in the pics.I wonder what it'll make at auction.Yeah the chrome Daytons are real nice.... Paul
  10. That makes sense ok.We dont have fracking in Ireland so I dont know much about the equipment used for it.I'd say your right...if that truck is needed Im outta there Paul
  11. Right might look like an A$$ but whats a "kill" truck? Might be known as something else over here.See a lot of pipe work and other stuff on this truck and just got me wondering what was it used for... Paul
  12. That sounds just like our Cruiseliner. Its flat out 2100rpm at 62mph.50mph is around 1650rpm.Doesnt really matter because max speed for a truck in Ireland is 60mph on a motorway (freeway) and 52mph on all other roads subject to local limits. All trucks are required to have speed limiters fitted except vintage... Paul
  13. Love it...Yeah would love to hear that run..... Paul
  14. As I always say...one of those 5 minute jobs that takes 5 hours🤣 Paul
  15. Those were the days.....You dont happen to have any pictures?. Paul
  16. Welcome to BMT.Love your truck.Has it got 24 inch rims? Seen that its 6 stud if it 24 in rims tyres could be a bigger problem than PS parts!!!! Anyway enjoy and keep us updated on your progress. Paul
  17. 2MPG....what price was a gallon of gas back then? Id say it was smooth to drive.Id love to see one... Paul
  18. I just cant think of a gas (petrol) powered semi truck. What was the gas mileage like? Im sure it was smooth to drive but would it have the same power as a diesel of the same size? Iv never seen one over here,in fact Iv never even heard talk of one here. There were small trucks of about 12 tons gross here years ago.Bedford was the only one I can think of selling them but not semis.... Paul
  19. Never seen one but it is a beautiful truck. There is 2 White 3000 in Holland saw them last year at the Mack day.Lovely little trucks too.... Paul
  20. Looks like a different dog for the hood......Id love a pair of half dogs for the cab sides...... Paul
  21. The Dog on our Cruiseliner sits on his hind legs with front legs up.....
  22. Heres a (bad) picture of it working the beams job.It was in a UK newspaper at the time and was sent to us by the owners son.. Paul
  23. Yeah it must have made it look easy. Its a large spec for a Pig Pen truck but we didnt have a lot to choose from.As far as we know theres only 6 Cruiseliners in Europe......just gotta work with what you have.... Paul
  24. Yeah it was a hell of a hitch Mark T.We wanted to return it to a standard road tractor unit as you know we are making a replica of Pig Pen's truck from Convoy. The first owners son told us the hitch was fitted to haul a single spine bolster trailer with a bolster on the fifth wheel to haul 100 foot long 120 ton beams for a motorway ( freeway) bridge project.Ironically from Ireland to the UK.He told us he was the rear steerman on the rear bogie. We found the frame was badly cut to fit it and rust had taken hold around the welds so removal was inevitable.... Paul
  25. Yeah I understand that Mech but it still shouldnt be too difficult. It wont interfere with axle tracking or suspension fittings so should be easy fix... Paul
