  1. It sure liooks a beautiful truck in the pics.I wonder what it'll make at auction.Yeah the chrome Daytons are real nice.... Paul
  2. That makes sense ok.We dont have fracking in Ireland so I dont know much about the equipment used for it.I'd say your right...if that truck is needed Im outta there Paul
  3. Right might look like an A$$ but whats a "kill" truck? Might be known as something else over here.See a lot of pipe work and other stuff on this truck and just got me wondering what was it used for... Paul
  4. That sounds just like our Cruiseliner. Its flat out 2100rpm at 62mph.50mph is around 1650rpm.Doesnt really matter because max speed for a truck in Ireland is 60mph on a motorway (freeway) and 52mph on all other roads subject to local limits. All trucks are required to have speed limiters fitted except vintage... Paul
  5. Love it...Yeah would love to hear that run..... Paul
  6. As I always say...one of those 5 minute jobs that takes 5 hours🤣 Paul
  7. Those were the days.....You dont happen to have any pictures?. Paul
  8. Welcome to BMT.Love your truck.Has it got 24 inch rims? Seen that its 6 stud if it 24 in rims tyres could be a bigger problem than PS parts!!!! Anyway enjoy and keep us updated on your progress. Paul
  9. 2MPG....what price was a gallon of gas back then? Id say it was smooth to drive.Id love to see one... Paul
  10. I just cant think of a gas (petrol) powered semi truck. What was the gas mileage like? Im sure it was smooth to drive but would it have the same power as a diesel of the same size? Iv never seen one over here,in fact Iv never even heard talk of one here. There were small trucks of about 12 tons gross here years ago.Bedford was the only one I can think of selling them but not semis.... Paul
  11. Never seen one but it is a beautiful truck. There is 2 White 3000 in Holland saw them last year at the Mack day.Lovely little trucks too.... Paul
  12. Looks like a different dog for the hood......Id love a pair of half dogs for the cab sides...... Paul
  13. The Dog on our Cruiseliner sits on his hind legs with front legs up.....
  14. Heres a (bad) picture of it working the beams job.It was in a UK newspaper at the time and was sent to us by the owners son.. Paul
  15. Yeah it must have made it look easy. Its a large spec for a Pig Pen truck but we didnt have a lot to choose from.As far as we know theres only 6 Cruiseliners in Europe......just gotta work with what you have.... Paul
  16. Yeah it was a hell of a hitch Mark T.We wanted to return it to a standard road tractor unit as you know we are making a replica of Pig Pen's truck from Convoy. The first owners son told us the hitch was fitted to haul a single spine bolster trailer with a bolster on the fifth wheel to haul 100 foot long 120 ton beams for a motorway ( freeway) bridge project.Ironically from Ireland to the UK.He told us he was the rear steerman on the rear bogie. We found the frame was badly cut to fit it and rust had taken hold around the welds so removal was inevitable.... Paul
  17. Yeah I understand that Mech but it still shouldnt be too difficult. It wont interfere with axle tracking or suspension fittings so should be easy fix... Paul
  18. Adding a piece on the end of the frame is not difficult. We have removed a home made hitch from our Cruiseliner and are adding a piece to hold mudflaps/lights..... Paul
  19. Our Cruiseliner has the heqdlight switch on the floor. It is the only vehicle I have ever owned with this set up.Takes a bit of getting use to but then we dont take it out much in the dark.It also has a stalk switch on the dash to flash the headlights.Being able to flash the lights is a leagle requirment over here...... Paul
  20. Tell her you'll do all the work around the house in exchange for some booty.......I guarantee you will have all the time in the world to work on the DM🤣 Worked for me...... Paul
  21. Welcom to BMT Bradf.Yes restoration is a very expensive game.It really does depend on how far you want to go with it.Put up some pictures and some of the guys on here could guide you.Best of luck with your truck. It sounds like a very interesting piece of Mack history... Paul
  22. The restored Leyland gas turbine is the yellow one in the picture on Paul's post. The 6 units were placed with oil companys for testing. The rumour was they thought diesel was doomed so the oil companys bought the units and patents and scrapped the idea.My own opinion is thats just rumour...... Paul
  23. Great question Mark T....Id be interested to know what transmission is/was used...Think Iv read somewhere the big stacks were to get rid of excessive heat....so much heat they had to point upwards!!! Paul
  24. Great history in this thred..The International Turbostar looked very well in those pictures.I never followed the gas turbine story much. The only Europian truck I ever heard doing gas turbine research was Leyland who built 6 units. One has been restored to full working order. There may have been others working on turbines in Europe but Iv never knew of any but Leyland...
