  1. I have an update. Today I went in and had the horsepower increased from 355/380 to 380/410 hp on my 2002 Mach CH613. I figured it would at the least take half a day to do this but the dealer got me right in and they were done with the truck in about 45 minutes and I was out the door with the bill paid in an hour and 15 minutes. The tech said that I probably would not notice anything special as far as super performance and to temper my expectations. It’s a truck not a race car “copy” I understand that but I find this kind of stuff interesting so let me recap as to what has happened so far. 1. Installed a boost gauge to keep track of changes. 2. Stock Maxicruse 355/380 boost 25psi max unloaded 3. Installed 900cc injectors 355/380 32 psi max unloaded 4. Increase horsepower program to 380/410 w/ 900cc injectors 35psi boost max unloaded. I will take the truck on an equipment run next week and let you know how it goes.
  2. I have not purchased the engine brakes yet. Are the 690 Jacob’s the ones to get?
  3. I scrubbed that flywheel to find those numbers, and I did the adjustment just like you stated, 1-5, 3-6, 2-4 the truck runs good now. For the most part this has been a fun project, most of the parts have been purchased from used salvage yards and the rest from online suppliers. The next major challenge will be the engine brakes.
  4. I at first I adjusted the valves the way I adjust a farm tractors valves, that was a mistake. When I first opened the valve covers and looked at the exhaust rockers, holy cow the gap was like a quarter of an inch and I thought what moron adjusted these things. I couldn’t find any markings on the balancer or the flywheel and nobody around to help me find them, so I did the best I could and was confident in my abilities to adjust valves. This was the worst valve adjusting disaster of my life and I think I ran the overhead like 6 times before I was able to get about half the valves right. By the time I was able to get a friend to help me find the marks on the fly wheel, I was seriously questioning my abilities and looking for some happy meds. I still did it wrong after I found the marks on the fly wheel because of the way the numbers are stamped “1&6” “2&5” “3&4” I assumed that meant adjust the valves on 1&6 at the same time, nope that is not what it means. Adjust 1 then do the first number on the second set of numbers then the third set of numbers then you start on the second set of numbers after a complete revolution and adjust 6, then 5, then 4 but follow the numbers on the flywheel. I am seriously surprised I didn’t screw something up, it was bad!
  5. Ok, I have an update. The injectors are in and the truck, and it runs pretty good, smokes just a little at start and then cleans up. I installed a boost and pyrometer gauge and took the truck for a spin before and after the injector swap. With the old injectors the absolute most boost I could get was 25 pounds then after the swap 32 pounds, both runs were without a load so no real pyrometer reads. Another interesting development was my Mack dealer here in Phoenix told me that my truck was approved by Mack corporate to increase the horsepower to 380/410 so that is surprising and unbelievable. I told them to double check with Mack and make sure before I head in and just get turned around because of a slip in communication. I adjusted the valves as well and I am here to tell you that was a humbling experience, I thought I knew what I was doing but quickly found out that I can be taught a lesson hard.
  6. What is the torque spec for the injector hold downs?
  7. Injectors ordered today, we will see how it goes in a few days.
  8. You are probably right on the 380/410 file.
  9. I guess it would be a good idea to let you guys know what I am trying to accomplish with this truck and the story behind it so you don’t think that I am completely off my nut. I traded a farm tractor for this truck a little over a year ago, not one of my better deals but I did it so I get to live with it. The truck was a Texas oilfield truck just plain Jane no exhaust brake, one horn, and nothing fancy but that is what I wanted. It is a Maxicruse 355/380 and I am here to tell you driving this thing home was nothing to brag about, what a DOG!!! The front right tire shredded just outside of El Paso took out the right headlight and part of the hood, that cost $1000.00 for the tire and the roadside rescue, and it caught on fire before I made it home. I have been to the school of hard knocks before so I know the address by heart but I also know the recipe of how to make lemonade from lemons. I have it I own it now what do I do with it? Fix the hood - DONE Fix the tires - DONE Fix the wires from the fire - WORKING ON IT Fix the lights - ALMOST DONE Fix the exhaust - WORKING ON IT Fix the HORSEPOWER issue - WORKING ON IT WITH YOU HELP My plan as of today is to increase the horsepower file to a 380/410 with a slightly larger injector, maybe something in between the 700cc it has now and the 850cc of the E7 460 if possible. I am not even sure if a 380/ 410 file is available for this year of truck at the moment because Mack Corporate has not gotten back on this as of yet. I am relying heavily on the information that I am getting on this forum in my decisions and I appreciate your assistance. I am also toying with the idea of installing the Power Leash engine brake but I am being told that it will not work on this engine, not sure or understand why though.
  10. some guys here say turbo swap, but i wouldn't do that at first. You believe that a larger injector without a turbo swap will work good enough? The boys at my Mack dealer here in Phoenix want me to switch the turbo to a #631GC5153M4 but Mack Corp will not get back to them with the horse power increase file. I know I am playing with old toys but still.
  11. Just looking to improve the performance a little bit and not burn things down or blast the innocent with obnoxious smoke. Did you change the turbo and the exhaust manifold?
  12. My truck was built in September of 2001, was the exhaust manifold a problem that year?
  13. How do you like the stock 460 injectors? Do they smoke a lot? Do you have temp problems?
