  1. The zip tie is a good idea. the guys out in my area drill little holes in the bottom of the mud flap and weld a hook where the flap bolts on at the top then just hook the on the hook before they back up. Mostly asphalt haulers do this so the paver im runnin dont rip them off and keeps the asphalt off them.
  2. Hey guys does your trucks have tip fans on them? If not i would start there . If they do find out if u have a 237 fuel pump or the 300 hp pump the difference is the 237 pumps have a sloped cover on the back where the gov, is located. Keep in mind adding these things may require some timing changes a injector changing. I can tell u how to turn up the fuel , but would feel better if u emailed me personally. I dont think its to wise to have that type of info laying out there for everyone to see. Thanks Joe
  3. I asked Jr Collins 2 years ago wich was better he said the v-pump is unless u want to spend 5 grand or more for a billet pump.
  4. In the 90's the e9 was equiped with the bosch pump ( the in-line pump) before that it was the v-pump ( which are the better ones they have bigger fuel barrels to deliver more fuel hense more power). The first E9 came out in 79 bought by Jr.Collins (buckeye bulldog) . Horsepower is amazing not many know but mack made some E9's for military use when my dad went to mack school in the late 80's he recieved a brochure on them . They made four models each different horsepower just by stacking turbos and adding fuel the end result was 1000 horsepower.. I say the brochure the other day in the shop ill dig it up and get it on here for you guys. If you have an E9 get the overhaul book on Ebay thats where i got mine for $30 it tells u everything. RPM RATINGS ARE E9-400 400@1700 EC9-400 SAME AS ABOVE E9-450 450@1800 E9-500 500@1900 THE "C" IS FOR CALIFORNIA
  5. WOW I thought i new some stuff on macks but i was wrong. I was lookin up some info on macks also and found a neat web site called High Performance Diesel King of Mack Trucks. Its about a family owned buisness south of walcott,Ia that deals with old macks and parts might help some of u guys out on info and parts. Joe
  6. I think the individual head design would be nice less heat and u just replace the one bad head instead of a bigger one that covers more pistons.
  7. The mack rears pull actually 60/40 , 60 at the rear. Trent your right on the brake thing i used to pull a dump trailer without parking brakes so i would bleed the air off to the trailer and unhook the hoses this way the brakes wouldnt stop my momentum worked every time.
  8. Those individual valve covers make it look like it has individul heads ( just like those KT cummins motors).
  9. The super 10 is an ok Trans i think , i never tore one oup and i tried believe me. the only thing i had wrong with it was in cold mornings the splitter was a little slow, other than that an excelent drag race tranny. It worked great with the jake brake for down shifting.
  10. The first show is Feb. 3 7-7:30 7:30- 8 ct. I looked it up on my tivo.
  11. Hey Old Red there is a truck on the website like the one your lookin for and the guys said he's willin to part with it. BKrois has it you can see the pics in Old R model refurb. They almost look idenical. Joe
  12. I was slways told to fire-wall macks till they hit on all 6. I drove an R model that had so much fuel turned to it you couldnt touch the pedal at all, it would make it worse. Make sure the ether u buy is for diesel engines. I think they have oil additves in some ethers specifically for diesel engines.
  13. HEY GUYS I GOT THE BIBLE OUT NOW.HOE TO IDETIFY YOUR ENGINE SERIAL # IS E = MACK TURBO CHARGED DIESEL ENGINE M = MAXIDYNE ENGINE (HIGH TROQUE RISE ENGINE) C = CALIFORNIA CERTIFIED 6 = FIRST DIGIT INDICATES CUBIC INCH DISPLACEMENT ( 672 I.E.) NEXT THREE NUMBERS MEAN PEAK GROSS HORSEPOWER (BHP) THE LAST 2 LETTERS COULD BE AN L OR AN R L = LOW SPEED MAXIDYNE R = REDUCED ENGINE SPEED
  14. THE 6 CYLINDER MACKS WERE OF THE SAME BLOCK WITH THE DIFFERENCE OF A COUPLE OF CUBES. THE ONLY THINGS THAT CHANGED FOR MORE HORSE POWER WERE THE TURBO, INJECTORS, PUMP, INTERCOOLER. MY DADS WORKED ON THEM FOR 30 YEARS HE SAID THAT THOSE FEW CHANGES IN CUBES DIDNT AMOUNT TO A HILL OF BEANS. MACK WAS ALWAYS KNOWN FOR BAD CAMSHAFTS( DYNATARDS) THATS WHY JACOBS BRAKES WERENT TO POPULAR. I THINK THE 4V HEAD WASNT MADE TILL 88. I GOT AN 87 WITH 2V HEADS AND HAD AN 88 WITH 4V HEAD AND TRENTS RIGHT THE BEST WAY TO TELL IF ITS 4V IS TO SEE IF THE INJECTOR COME IN THE SIDE OF THE HEAD (PASSENGER). HOPE THIS HELPS JOE
  15. I would recomend a detachable front clip for anything u put a 3208 in. They dont call them scatterpillars for nothin.lol. Not to be steppin on toes but thats the boat anchor cat should have never made.
  16. Imagine pulling into the local truck stop and tellin the u got a low tire.
  17. Howd yu guys like to change all those tires? lol.
  18. my grandfather had a 460 which is the same as the 427 or 454 except for computer and the fan. But the local dealer did tell us that they changed a diode in the air intake sensor to make the truck think that it was cold outside all the time. by this i mean when in the winter time the air is denser and more is takin in the intake thus more fuel added too (via) the computer. its kind of like taking the puff-elliminator off the e-6 300's. better take off and harder pulling at low rpm's it will smoke too. "IF A MACK DONT SMOKE A MACK DONT RUN" JOE
  19. MY DAD HAS AN R MODEL WITH THE STACK OUT THE HOOD, HE PUT THAT STACK THERE FOR TRUCK PULLIN. IT ALSO HAS ONE OF THE RAREST MACK TRANSMISSIONS TOO. IT HAS REV. AND 1-5 ON ONE STICK AND ON THE OTHER STICK IT HAS DIRECT OND OVERDRIVE . HE SAID IT IS THE HIGHEST GEARED TRANS EVER MADE .60 IS THE FINAL DRIVE. THE TRUCK RUNS 73 MPH @ 2500 RPM THEN U PUT IN OVERDRIVE AND IT DROPS BACK TO 1200 RPM THIS OLD MACK HAS BLOWN MORE PETERBILTS TO THE WEEDS THAN I CAN COUNT.LOL. ITS A BLAST TO DRIVE. WHEN U GET THAT THING ON THE ROAD THE C.B. SOUNDS LIKE YOUR AT AN AUCTION. JOE ILL GET SOME PICS FOR U GUYS.
  20. HEY TIM DOESNT YOUR PYRO GET HOT BEFORE THE WATER TEMP? THIS DOESNT MAKE SENSE TO ME . PULLING A HILL THE PYRO SHOULD GET HOT FIRST THEN THE WATER TEMP. UNLESS THERE IS SOME AIR FLOW RESTICTION TO THE RADIATOR. JOE
  21. HEY GUYS THERE IS AN E9 ON EBAY FOR 7500 STARTING BID. IT ENDS DEC. 23RD @ 9:54 IF ANY ONE IS INTERESTED. ( USED MOTOR) HE'S ASKIN TO MUCH IF U ASK ME. BUT THEY ARE ALSO ACCEPTING CORES TOO. JOE
  22. trent have u ever seen any itpa pro stock semi pulls? If not well have to get together this summer and ill show what a mack 300 will do on alchol puttin out about 800 ponys ive never seen a mack smoke like ours. oh and i cant forget about the 7 inch tubo on it either. Joe
  23. Hey trent where are u located in Chi-town . Im down here south of champaign. I had a buddy that worked up in Aroura for a guy that has 2 v8s one was a black cabover. I havent had much luck locating them localy. joe
  24. I talked to Howard at goodys 2 days ago he said that they have 1 v8 out of an 88 superliner. He told me 5500 minus 2000 for exchange.he didnt give me milage or what style of fuel pump it had, thats all i asked
  25. The 237 motor does not have a tip fan. Also the pump should be different. the difference in the pumps are easy to tell, the 237 pump has a sloped top on the govoner(where the 6 bolts hold the cap on to keep people out of the fuel adjustment). the 300 motors have a flat top on the govoner. thats how u tell whether its a 237 or a 300. joe
