  1. What a magnificant pictorial! Those photos could easily make a couple of years worth of calendars, I for one would buy a few copies! And Mike you certainly have gone "above and beyond the call of duty" when it comes to saving those beautiful trucks from insatiable iron shredder's appetite! BRAVO!!!
  2. Oh boy a COMMANDCAB Wow that sounds official! And they sure weren't kidding when they said "not for cosmetic reasons"
  3. Looking good Vinny, keep up the great work pace and you'll be riding along the high roads in no time!
  4. One guy I knew was making conversation and brought up our old 93 DM model, what the specs were, I told him "300 maxidyne with a jake", he gave a sarcastic gasp and replied "The Dynatard?????" to which I said "yep it's pretty 'TARDED alright!" sometimes I crack myself up . . . . .
  5. Nice save vinny! Well done young Lad you'll make Rob proud yet!
  6. Now if you showed up with a VOLVO golf cart you might be subject to just a little bit of animosity
  7. In my younger days I dated a girl who had the chance to take a trip throughout France, England, Germany and came back with all sorts of bragging rights. She could talk on for hours about how great it was and when she saw that "tuning out" look in my eyes and asked "wouldn't you just LOVE to go to these places" I reminded her "why????? I've been lucky enough to have seen a ton of our great country and yet there is still so much more of it I haven't seen. . . . WHY THE HELL WOULD I GO TO ANOTHER COUNTRY????" Long story short she didn't last too long, just can't understand why? Back on topic, I must say Montana was one of my favorite places to say I have been lucky enough to visit :
  8. 57 Bel Air and 58 Bel Air were always favorites of mine as a child drooling over the collectible car books! Also loved the 64 Impalas as I got older. . . both in original trim and the "low rider" styles popular in southern california Closest I ever got to something like this was my best friend having a '70 Impala in high school that I helped him work on . . . . . Later in life I discovered a love for larger vehicles like these old bulldogs
  9. To sum up what young Vinny said in the beginning, the DM is a heavier duty model with beefy frame, axles, made for "Dumper / Mixer" applications while the U is a lighter duty, lighter weight road tractor usually found "Upside-down" Never cease to be amazed by the education one can gain on this website!
  10. Yes I did find the answer, and a lot of good laughs as well! Thanks for the posts everybody!
  11. In the late 80s when I was a young boy there was a large construction project going on at my school during the school year, during the early phase of the site work there were lots of different dump trucks in and out for a few weeks, one was a brand new "classic" style Autocar with lots of chrome and aluminum, it was the first Autocar I ever saw and always thought them to be one serious looking truck! Also loved the GMC 9500 series with the quad round headlights in the grille, my best friend's uncle had one for a sewer pumper with a screamin' driptroit under the hood, we could always hear him from a mile away leaving the stoplight in the center of town while playing in the school yard!
  12. Love the Mater sticker on the bumper and the eyeballs in the windshield!
  13. Love that "Continental" style spare tire!
  14. I second that motion on the aircraft stripper, pretty expensive but boy does it work well! When I was your age Vin I was helping my father restore old 2-cylinder John Deere tractors, that stripper was the cat's meow on the hard to scrape cast iron surfaces like axle housings, tranmission casings, etc. Seeing these pics and your remark about scraping grease reminds me of all the work I was doing back then on those tractors (and loving EVERY minute of it, too! wouldn't have traded it for the world! ) Keep up the good work you should be proud of the progress you're making!
  15. "You motorboatin' son of a bi*** . . . . . you ol' Sailor you!" - "Wedding Crashers"
  16. Saw this one at a local Mack collector / re-seller about a mile from my place of employment, thought the DM road tractor was kinda rare and neat so I looked it up on the internet when I got home. http://m.arantrading...ForSale/2823327 Sure does look sharp staring out over I95 at the I495 Merge up in Salisbury MA. Makes his single axle R-model dumps look kinda small
  17. The enticing offer of "port delivery" says it all . . . . . SOUTH AMERICA HERE I COME!!!!!
  18. Just remember what happens in the "hay" stays in the "hay" pssst. I used "codes" to avoid offending any audiences
  19. Friend of mine recommended I try that with a pig I met at local tavern a few weeks back, gotta say it took more than a little but he was right! SHE fired right up
  20. I appreciated the (.)(.) closeup at the 0:50 mark after that it went downhill I'm afraid . . . . Props to the cameraman

    Vin:

Only if you put out your three triangles and give a good show

    Vin:

Once passed a T.T. unit on the shoulder with the triangles out and the hood up, couple minutes later some wisecracks went over the CB, followed by tongue in cheek reply "Don't care what you say, this is REAL truckin' right here" Got a chuckle and never forgot that one. So I guess until you break down you're not a real truck driver (Guess I'm a real driver many times over)
  23. Call me blind but the mirrors and brackets were the only good parts I spotted . . . . . . stack and marker lights looked clean but readily available aftermarket locally . . . . . maybe it was the angle camera Hmmm, how bout a passenger door ? ? ? ? ?. . . . no wait GLUED SHUT VIN, I'll come out and say it : You're far more ambitious than me if you wanna get that one running! Hats off to you!
  24. He thinks us "New England Yankees" will pay a million $$$$ for a rust free "southern" truck
  25. Had a Navistar DT motor do something similar, happened in dead winter and we thought fuel had gelled but after thawing out in heated shop 2 days and still no start (plenty of fuel in filter) we found a bad fuse under the battery cover seperate from all other fuses, apparently it ran the high pressure injection rail was a 40A Maxi plug in. Changed that and it fired right up but since it wasn't with any other fuses took a while to find. Point is look high and low at all wiring for a small black fuse holder you might get lucky. Look in the weirdest of places, sometimes they're hard to find! Good luck!
