I made a similar switch in a 75 RS700L from a 2 valve to a E7400, the biggest issue I ran into with my truck was we had move the radiator back for a front mount intercooler because my old motor had a tip turbine. Otherwise I can not remember other big issues, oh yeah motor mount was different on the front mine had the old style front motor mount and we had to switch it to the newer one to match up with the E7

10 Speed Mack Transmission
bulldogbred replied to b61mack's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I have the 12 speed in my 1975 RS700L behind a E7400 Mechanical, and I LOVE IT! I don't think I can tell you how much I like this tranny. We have two RD's one with a 400 and one a 350 both have 8LL's, we also have a CL with a ISX600 and an 18 spd, and I will be honest with you I will take the old R700 any day over the CL, more low end power, and that 12 speed just drives like a Cadillac, once you get rollin you only need to use two gears because like a 5 speed 4th gear is high enough to do 40-45 and low enough to do 30 for rollin into a town. I hardly ever use the Low gear in my 12 speed only when you get in real soft ground when I'm off road. -
Please Recommend A Transmission
bulldogbred replied to mackattack2's topic in Engine and Transmission
We always say, the reason Fuller makes em shift nice, is cuz you gotta shift more often. My truck has the 12 speed Mack in it and I love that transmission, behind an e7400 hardly ever have to shift -

I need a bumper for a RS700L its the Aluminum bumper where the top and bottom are out further and the center is kinda reccessed in, willing to pay good money for a perfect one, thanks ~ Jon

The only advantage really to twin turbos if they are staged and you want to get higher boost pressures, whic would be pretty cool, but would take a lot of work you would be better putting the Holset turbo on it, and maybe some different injectors, then youd really have some power, and it wouldnt be near as much work as routing all oil, intake and exhaust
-
Check on the spacing between the fan and your radiator, sometimes on the tip turbine motor you can make up that difference in the fan spacer, we ended up doing that on mine trent with the new E7
-
It depends on which 300 to 350 you are talking if it is a 2 valve, no if you plan on going with the tip turbine intercooler on the motor, I believe and E6 4 valve would also swap the same, as would an E7 300-350, the only reason you would have to mess around would be if you went from a 2 valve 300 with the tip turbine intercooler to a 4 valve or late 2 valve 350 with the front mounted charge air cooler, then your radiator would probably have to be moved to accomodate the charge air cooler, there are several different variations that could happen here depending on the year and type of engine currently in your dog

What Will Replace A 170 Hp Scania In A Dm400?
bulldogbred replied to Stardrilling's topic in Engine and Transmission
HA isnt that true, junk clatterpillar, we've had only 1 or 2 3208s, but weve had a few 3204s in a D5, 953 and a couple other machines, god are they junk, head gaskets or heads have been done on all of them, 953 got an overhaul, blown a turbo, its half a 3208 basically cut in half, weve got several 3304s and they have been outstanding motors, my 955L has seen a lot of dirt in its day -
What Will Replace A 170 Hp Scania In A Dm400?
bulldogbred replied to Stardrilling's topic in Engine and Transmission
As previously stated the 3208 is definitely a boat anchor, Not only as said do they have crank failure but also common cracked heads and junk head gaskets, they are one of the worst motors cat ever built, all of the 32 series, about the 237 I believe it would be fine in front of the 13 speed as far as handling the torque as long as the driver drives the tranny right, if it was me i would put a maxidyne in it, my uncles is currently finishing up a b model with a 195 horse john deere powertech out of a log skidder in it, once its done i will post some pics on here -
Rs700
bulldogbred replied to ThaddeusW's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
first thing, junk the cummins and put a bulldog back in it, unless you really want it original i would either put a 2 valve in it, or an e7 mechanical, 2 valve 350 with the tip turbine intercooler best motor ever built never touch it, my uncle used to run his towing business thru my grandpas mack shop here in illinois, they got an 82 valueliner with 350 2 valve and 13 speed fuller, screw turned some it will outrun cars out of the toll booth empty, no older 400 cummins or clatterpillar will even touch this thing, and you can find 2 valves cheap, all you need to make a 300 a 350 is change the turbo, pump settings and put the water manifold intercooler on it, my rs700 has now got a e7 400 in it, set at about 425 now, when pulling season rolls around and i gotta go up against a few petes with c15s will set her up all the way, ask trent even the old two valves will scream though, two seasons ago i outpulled a buddy of ours 379 with a 550 in it (rob's trucking/lenzini excavatings), i took 6th out of 17 trucks with a 300+, -
Rs700
bulldogbred replied to ThaddeusW's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I agree RS700 is the coolest truck mack ever built, no comparison to a superliner, 700s were the best long hood mack ever built for sure -
As long as you take care of the motor and truck, it will run forever, theres lots of bulldogs out there pushing over 1 million miles that trucks just broke in, it could have 200k on it and be junk cuz the previous guy was a pig, if it was taken care of and you do the same thats all that matters, i know several people that run E9s, we own one

its probably a dynatard engine brake is why it doesnt perform like you would expect, that was macks engine brake, it doesnt have the retarding horsepower of a jake, more for the noise than the actually slowing factor, you need to try and find an actual Jacobs engine brake, they are kinda hard to come by we have a 65 bmodel that my grandpa put a 237 in back in the day when they used it as a wrecker, and it has an actual jacobs that works awesome. Good Luck, Jon
