  1. Dave love to have you come photo mine one day, if you haven't already. My little old bulldog is on the cover of the Iconographics CF book.
  2. I will call again, my local Mack dealer is fixated on the new stuff. Thanks for the advice. I'm moving forward! Apparently a few fire engine accidents with these braking systems killed the parts market. I find it hard to believe Mack didn't have these on any of they road tractors?
  3. I'm making head way, just got word from Gunite that this rotor is still an active part number.....tech support is trying to help me find out if the number is correct.
  4. Talked to Bepco... they are going to rebuild the calibers. I already have purchased new pads all the way around. Unfortunately, they have no leads on rotors. This was all the information they had.. Grunite Rear Rotors R3205A Rear wheel Seal CR48000 Rear Brake Pads AD8056 No one has any part numbers for the fronts.
  5. We have now called everyone to no avail. Did Mack only place this setup on a CF? We have good calipers, pads, etc. just missing the rotors. Is it really looking like a complete front and rear axle swap is the only way to keep these old disk brake CFs on the road? Frustrated for sure....... These may be the first parts I cant find.
  6. Im looking for rotors all the way around for a 1979 Mack CF fire engine. Apparently, parts are hard to find for these Kelsey Hayes Disk Brake setups or I have been talking to the wrong mack guys. I have NOS caliber rebuild kits and pads that I have found but rotors have eluded me. Thoughts on who may have some rotors would be appreciated. I am assuming these brakes would have been used on mack tractors too. Tim H
  7. Ok thanks for the reply's. If things come together I may make an offer. Nice running truck, motors been replaced as it has a 237 with a tip turbine on it, from my notes a 70 should of had a ole 237. My only reservation is that it has significant rust on the drip edge the whole way around the cab. Im not sure how hard that would be to repair.
  8. Just checked out the video of the running V-12 is that yours? Thats about as good as they run if it is.
  9. I looked at a 1970 R Mack. It had no front brakes. Where brakes optional on the front wheels back then? Also excuse the lack of correct terminology, it had an underslung springs. Is that a good setup or should I look for something different. Hoping to pull a trailer with a show truck/tractor on it. Wasn't sure about the brakes, and I want to make sure it was worth looking at.
  10. Sorry for the delay home and work have me buried. I'm all in on this as V-12 Lycoming is a beautiful creature. Call me and explain what's going on. 919-215-0284. I hate to say it but you stumbled on why most of these engines were repowered by a Continental 6 or a Diesel. I have owned three 700 and have turned many wrenches on them.
  11. Are you rebuilding it?
  12. Guys, I found an R model sitting out back of a barn. It appears to have been worked hard. It looks savable though. Hoods been killed. The owner cant tell me the year or any thing about the truck. Can anyone help me decode the vin: R686ST18303 I guessing the 686 means a 300 mack with tip turbine....but does the ST tell me any more about the truck? I wasnt sure what all I can tell from the vin#. Thanks for the information, I may make him an offer depending on what you guys tell me. What does an r hood goes for?
  13. Any interior photos? or Tranny specs. just curious what it would run on the open road.
  14. How much is it to fix a trunion? Does it need anything else? I have been looking for a tractor, it would be my first one. I am being cautious and slow about it.
  15. Nice found....just check the turbo oil line for dry rot....
  16. Have fun down there! Sorry we didnt have more time in Richmond, just too little time to get around and visit. Barely got through the room and everyone was gone.
  17. I didnt know you were on here Tom.
  18. This engine is actual a 1000 series, or a premium version of the 900s. I think in 69 or 70, the premium version became availble in addtion to the 900, now the base model option. To clue you in on the series change, the aluminum wrap around the bottom of the front cab is the only factor to key you in. Also, the 1000 series came standard with a Detroit Diesel. To get a gas motor in this time period, you had to opt for the 900 series. These two series, phased out in the mid 70's, when the premium ALF became the Century with the enlarged cab and the value version became the Pioneer.
  19. Its on a landoll, in Newark. Guys giving me a deal; He has to bring another truck down to NC in a week or so, so we are spilting the trip. I gave it a basic check over and new filters. The truck was parked a few years ago due to no power. I think the fuel pump and the injectors were to blame. I didnt want to drive it, but the deal was it had to be moved rite then. I crossed my fingers and off we went. It went 60 miles and when I let off the gas pedal the truck died and would not restart. No fuel to the rack. I think a tune up, a fuel tank cleaning, a fuel pump, injectors and then the motor will be fine. Crossed fingers, thats it. Then on to the rest of the truck. Its a 1971 1000 Series American LaFrance, 1250 pump, 500 gallon tank, 6-71 Detroit with a Spicer 5 spd.
  20. Fellow apparatus buffs, So as luck has it, another firetruck found its way to my shop. After going through that issue with the B Model in Delaware, a guy sent me on to Newark. Two weeks ago I went up on Saturday to help a friend move fire stuff for a museum and ending up with another engine. To my suprise it is not a Mack and oh by the way its not even red. I will admit that I had a moment or a judgement lapse. I think my Dr. said acceptance is the first stage to a cure, any how. I thought I would share a picture of the old girl. Why I took possession I will never know. The engine was signed over without me even looking at it and I was off. Sixty miles out, I had a break down and then got ripped off by a tow company. Needless to say a free truck, well is not so free now. Due to work and the towing of the engine it is still in NJ; up in a yard. I hope to have it home soon to see how bad of shape it is in. I think its in bad shape, but I am not sure how bad. I dont know why I do this to myself??? Thanks for all the B model leads, but it will take a few months to recharge my play money. I will have a B before all is said and done.
  21. My original department had a 1988 Lance like this with the 8v92, it would climb a hill like an animal.
  22. Deposit arrived back in the mail this morning. Guess I will be moving on now, and I take fxfymn's advice. Beside it will just give me more play money for the SPAAMFAA national.
  23. I ask the seller to take pictures this weekend of the truck and let me know the current condition of the truck, he did and we got even more excited to rescue the truck. I just received another email starting he decided to sell the truck to a friend. Well, I am alittle bent out of the frame because I have two non-refundable hotels booked, I have a non refundable deposit for a rented trailer to get the truck, I just bought all those parts/oil at NAPA and he has my deposit. Since its a family forum, I let you fill in the words that are in my head. I am out a bunch now, so I am going to have to eat it. If you all buy something from Rich Krett in New Castle, DE beware. I would suggest you buy it in person as a verbal handshake between FFs is worth nothing. He wont respond any more in email or by phone. His excuse in a one sentence email is that he didnt get my deposit quick enough. My response was you could have called, written, or let me know you needed it immediately besides you been emailing me pictures telling us you accepted our offer up to the day prior that email. I will keep you all posted on whether or not my deposit comes back.
