  6. Larry, The round alu tanks on my R are 24" OD. I suppose that size would work for the B and R-model tank brackets don't seem to me as a trouble to find. At least it seems to me such way from my point of observation On the other hand I surprizingly to myself have found some of them even overhere.
  7. Wow! Shame on me I forgot to check the thread out. Thank you for spotting the pics of the hood mounts. It was not a smoked gun deal for me but a question I wanted to learn for a while. Now it's clear and the last shots you posted helped either. Glad to see more progress and pretty sure the look of it will be almost heart-breaking after the paint is on.

  18. That all is pretty interesting to see. Looks like the optional high brackets are a big series setup. Are made as steel castings. Or more correctly cast iron ones. Got disappointed at the first time seeing no rear spring bracket at the same spot. But that's R700 and the cab sits further backwards than I used to see. Western setup is an almost different story. As I can see the cab is similar about the shape of the mounting pads. But they are drilled different for mounting bolts. I might be wrong though, haven't digged that deep on my Eastern R's. Interesting to admit Western trucks have so many parts of welded design in relation to Macungie. It might be explained by less numbers of vehicles produced (I'm in doubt on that) or just a different "culture of design and production". Thank you for the efforts sharing the knowledge.
  19. Wonder are those cab support brackets custom made ones of thick sheet metal or cast as standard R-series ones? And if the cab seats higher there must special hood hinges or mounts be present. Thank you for explaining things over Western R's. I'm not familiar with them and have symphaties to at the same time.

  22. No, it seems to me those rear wheels are your American Super Singles as they are. Those rims have the same look as the ones which were on my recently purchased RD690, which came from about the same region. With the exception they were at the front only, a "cup-inside" style. The rear ones on the RD were "cup-to-the-outside" as it sommonly is. Another guess they are like the front ones on a DMM. I suppose that orange truck is RM and should have a similar front axle as DMM does. But DMM has a different bolt pattern at the front. Actually the standart European 10 stud pattern. Which doubtly could present on the rear Mack axles. So those wheels and the front axle setup on orange truck are a mistery so far.
  23. Rob, From what I can see the tall truck has Eastern style R700 hood which doesn't have those 4 inches on its sides. Those two at the right are Western Hayard-built RS/RL. And the same with your water tanker. I don't know is the tall red truck an Eastern R700 (it seems to me that way because of the fuel tank/battery box style) or an early production Western RS. If the 1st case it seems like the gap between the front wheel and the fender arch is huge. It must mean the hood/cab set up higher than stock or those under-the-springs spicers are higer. My Eastern (actually Canadian) R's have them spicer blocks of 4" and as I could figure out they're standart stock for them.

  25. I would too like to see the finished result. The most restorers I checked out just fill up cracks and than paint a wheel. What seems to me not nice, especially after some runs when you worn a coat of paint through. A local company made a silicone form to cast a new body on an old carcass of epoxy resin. But they have made it for only one particular (and popular) classic Russian car. I asked to make a custom form for my Mack wheel and quoted for nearly $1000. Not ready to tell I was happy to hear that figure.
