Wow! Seems very interesting. And not far from my basic location. The site tells they open the doors Fr-Su. And on Th during summer only. Good place to get on weekend.
-
I happened to drive through but it was dark and rainy so I saw absolutely nothing. Ok, good idea, put it on the list. Thanks.
-
Nice place but I checked in there this past June. Looks like my geography should be spread wider, too many nice places are already seen.

Thank you for the ideas guys. America On Wheels was on my mind. I checked their web site and looked like they work all the week excepting Monday. Even Thursday marked as a working day. Gary Mahan's collection is a great place to see no doubt. But I was lucky checking it out in the past.

It has happened that my current affairs got me to New Jersey. Some used BMW spare parts go to Russia on a constant basis but lots of come broken and so. The recipient wasn't happy with the fact and knowning my addiction to everything used and rusty plus my experience visiting the US made me an offer for a inspection voyage. Actually I was paid for the plane tickets having a week to spend for reasons I want. So so far I'm at my friend's place in NJ. Unfortunately he's going to departue to Mexico for vacation with a family and I have a feeling of potential nothing to do. This kind of situation is not typical to me and I already started building plans for the nearest few days. Going to visit Matt Pfahl's shop on Tuesday. The further part of the week needs more work out and taking to account Thanksgiving on Thurthday I found myself open for ideas. What would you guys recommend me to visit in the area of NY-NJ or Easter PA? I even look for a chance to keep anybody's company to put hands on an old Mack truck if someone is going to spend the long weekend in his shop. No income interest, just involvement and accomodation.

I think that's one reasonable solution in your case. To be honest I also felt some "back thoughts" seeing you building a rat rod of the NR. But thinking more I realized 1st you have 3 trucks and used only one for the project. 2nd what you actually use is just a L-model (aftermarket to the NR!) closed cab and front parts such as hood, grille and fenders. And 3rd and the main - that's your truck so your way to do whatever you like
-
Paso, (do I do correct calling you this way?) Looks like you're going to make a fast rat or hot rod from those blue body parts. What kind of chassis do you use to install the cab on? Of what I see as a potential imperfection I'd look for some different (larger/wider/brighter?) wheels. Those big 11.00-24 Mack tyres make it look as a really huge machine. And I like it. In fact I had to even install 12.00R24 having no chances for the less size stock 11.00-24 tyres. If you see nothing wrong with that I will definitely keep your offer about the drive train in my mind. The most of my mechanical needs seem covered up at the moment but some Lanova parts are quite scarce to purchase. I have possibilitis to ship heavy stuff from New Jersey state so in theory your old iron might find a way to my place. Once again, no real plans at the moment. If I have something particular in my mind on the matter I will PM you. Thanks, Vlad

Paul, got it about them black buggers. At least one good thing seems to me with white flys - black ones have gone off a toilet for the freezy time. Currently we have a couple degrees above Celsias zero with forecast of warming up to +8 for at least a week. Quite nice for a late authumn. Pretty interesting to hear your grandfather drove NR's. So far I have never met a person in Russia who did that. Only some ones who remember them driving around. My Dutch friend told me he could do as much as 65 km/h with his NR on a motorway. I noted the most NR's in Australia rode on 20 inch wheels all over, probably 12.00-20, quite common tyre size, for the Soviet Union either. Suppose it could bring some top speed decrease relating to 11.00-24 factory wheels which were installed on the Dutch truck. But doing a count 36 mph is 57.6 km/h so not the speed you'd like to have reaching the stars anyway.

I would go for the larger radius since i see nothing wrong with that. The lesser radius might not allowing the bearing cone to seat completely up to the spindel flange. If it actually seats no trouble to use such one on my mind either. And from the 3rd point of view using a part with a correct factory # would eliminate potential issues and possible doubts and investigation of the matter in the future.

There's strange thing with that indeed. Some people selling Macks in the US have very short skills of speaking Dutch or Russian

Paul mate, Hope it's still warm and sunny over the Brown land and your neck of the woods particulary. Right at the moment I see some flys doing rounds over the outside pole light. And a strange thing, those flys are white in color Brrr! Happily I have a progress on them rear diffs. All NR's were equipped with 9.02 carriers from the factory. A book says there was some series of the trucks with 7.33 or so but those were early series bunch and a few in number and nobody knows for sure they ever existed. So 9.02. With a help of one our fellow member I could purchase 2 sets of bewel gears off B-61 rear diffs. Don't remember the initial ratio but when combined with my spurr (bull) sets the result is 6.34. It seems quite good to me or even fast. The calculations gave me something like 92 km/h top speed but I'm not sure the truck would ever reach them with its stock 131 horse stable. Let's see. The actual progress is that fast that I have one of the diffs (mostly) assembled and going to put in the banjo (the next spring). The 2nd one is in the waiting line. Anyway those gear sets are an important point to pass by since I couldn't finish the chassis without them.

Good to see you finally found the way to post images on here. Another thing I have difficulties identifying the content of this particular one. For sure everything I see on it was newer installed on a NR model from the factory Talking about the forum I spent many years participating on here and can state when you're familiar with ways to post and navigate no sufficiat issues accure to share and get info on BMT. Looking forward to see more of the trucks you have. And I'm currently not on a daily basis on here either. Like many other long time members as I can see.

The case was the forwarding company which helps me with parts shipped to Russia was up close to the gearbox location. Just 10-15 miles away. I will keep in my mind such offer was attractive. In my particular case there was not a really hard need since the truck is a hooby one. Otherwise I'd hang up the phone immediately Hope someone who needed the tranny purchased that one.

Interesting. Is that yourth? Or just close?

Sad to hear when such things happen.

Many members on here had troubles uploading pics during recent years. That concerned even me. Good thing the thing I had to do was deleting or resizing some of my old attachments to manage my upload capacity. The latter was found limited after 6 or so years of posting pics. But many others got issues of different kinds. And it seemed to me many long time members cancellled their participation on BMT because of that.

You will probably not seen any notifications excepting cases when someone quotes your thred (as I do now) or likes it. From what you type of VIN numbers all the truck were produced in 1945. There were some later series of NR's either which were ordered during the war years but completed after its end when the militaries didn't need them anymore/ Those were named NR-18, NR-19 and NR-20. All those were directed to Western Europe to support destroyed economy. 150 trucks went to Belgium, 150 to Netherlands and 300 trucks (NR-20) - to France. The VINs were larger numbers than yours, starting from 16000 or so and further. My donor truck was from the French bunch and had its VIN of something 17000. As far as I know all NR VINs started with NR4D and had "D" in the end since it was a standard thing for Mack when it was Diesel. Of my truck you now can see a couple of really poor views of the original object (the one which was supplied under Lend-Lease to Russia? jr better to say/ what was survived) and the donor truck which was imported from The Netherlands and had its younger days serving in French army. Of what I have done to the moment is a mostly complete chassis with fuel tanks and all new piping. I also have a good progress with the engine and gearbox. But both aren't finished completely. The cab is on the list and the cargo body is drown detailingly and waits $$$ to be ordered as a set of wooden parts. The most interesting part of the story was posted here: https://www.bigmacktrucks.com/topic/29254-frame-is-ready/

Aren't you going to drive over Alaska and Russia? I like the front wheels. Don't remember any truck at Mackdag riding on such ones. -
