My Fuller 18's may be weaker in design and engineering but hold out just as well as my Mack 18. Our's run regional and go through the gears often in city traffic. The Range syncro and output shaft c-clip are the worst parts of the Mack trans. Both must have the entire trans removed to replace. (unlike the Fuller) The range syncro clutch pack from PAI seem to last longer and are 25% cheaper then Mack's.(Our local rebuilder agrees) Otherwise the Fuller 18 is cheaper to repair and spec on a new unit, lighter and easier to service or rebulid then the Mack 18. The Mack trans doesn't have a lot going for it besides it being built by Mack.

Even us Central and Eastern Canadians have no idea why everything is so expensive out West..... Keep up the good work. I can imagine restoring and domiciling a rig out West is a lot harder on the pocket book.

That should be a fairly easy swap over. The cabs should be fairly similar (almost identical as both are ketstone interior) Swap the trans mounts as the frame rails should be different and front engine mounts. That should be a nice and fairly simple swap. As long as nobody notices the lack of 2002 emissions crap.

That Superdog is Cummins powered. Just not sure what rating.

On older CH/CL interiors those switches came mounted low on the dash to the left of the steering column if speced from factory.

La Rue Haulage up in Ravenshoe Ont. Has a Granite CV tractor from factory. 222" wheelbase day cab hauling gravel. It was a gutless whore 405hp (Internal EGR AI) originally but messed with the Cam and ECM so I was told. Can't confirm what they got after messing with the EGR system. Was the tractor you saw Black with yellow?

Need some info on the CRD 200 carrier
bbigrig replied to MACK MAN's topic in Driveline and Suspension
At Grant Haulage our tractors were hauling 120,000lb gross. When the 200 series came out we speced them. Our first batch of 200 series carriers we ordered in the 90's and had high failure rates from bearing issues to gear metal flaking or spawling. ( lots of Mack Warranty) If I remember correctly, John Deere had the contract for making the gears of those 200 series carriers.(Correct me if I'm wrong) The reliability of the parts didn't really improve so in the 2000's we switched over to Rockwell Meritor 46's. and never looked back. I have one heavy spec with 200 series Carriers and have only had the stupid power divider cause issues. We went Meritor. They are over kill and not as good as 46 Meritors. -
You can order just a trimmed sleeper from Mack the same way you can order a groomed replacement cab. You could order a groomed RD/DM cab up until 2 years ago. The frame being to weak is also B.S. as The 9" frame on 1 of My Pinnacles is huge and the same rail the Volvo heavy spec VN is available with up to an 18,000lb front. The issue sounds more like Mack Reps. who don't have a clue (And they are abundant these days)Its not like the old days where Mack Guys cared about the brand the sell and Mack trained the hell out of its reps. Our dealer up here has ordered Bunks etc for wreck replacements and customer requests.

They are both known as auxiliary switches. Both Switches are extra pre wired/powered switches that you can use for what ever you want. -The swicth with the key insignia is ignition powered (only works with ignition turned to on) -The switch with the Battery is a constantly powered switch from a direct battery feed. Both switches are fused from factory and you will need the wiring schematics to locate the best place to tap into them to use them. In Ontario we use to use the "Key" switch for a trailer lift axle switch just by doing some light rewiring.

Interesting... looks like an MR steering wheel....

I have had an MP engine pushing coolant out of the expansion tank due to injector cup failures.( That and doorknobs that install them poorly at the dealer)

CM422 with E5-240
bbigrig replied to Erickson5006's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Renault put the serial plates on the block. Above the starter on the driver side for mid-liners. CM engines I'm not 100% sure. The Model should start with a (MIDS 06 something) That 240hp only comes with about 650lbft of torque. Any Diesel pickup truck on the market today has more twist. We had a CS300T tractor with a cab fairing hauling light stuff with the E3220hp engine.9 speed RVI trans. Had to have your foot in it all day. A Cummins C8.3L will fit for sure. Which also means if you wanted to go silly on it An electronic ISL 8.9L would also fit but you would have to retro fit the electronics. (ECM/sensors) A 50 Series Detroit would need some shoehorning but would fit. Not a stump puller, but better then a Renault engine and easier to get parts for. If that CM is in good shape and you need to flog it send me some pics. I could use a yard goat. -
CM422 with E5-240

Also CM had an optional 7 speed fuller available. If it's a 10 it may be a change over. Check the spec through the VIN at the dealer. I use to see some throttle linkage issues that would hold the arm of the pump from getting anywhere near wide open. Keep in mind these Renault motors are not the torque monsters we find ion today's pickups. The 06.02.24 engine is just over 7L displacement. -
CM422 with E5-240
bbigrig replied to Erickson5006's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
There is no difference between a CM400 and a CM 422. CM400 is just the model family prefix. CM422 signifies it has a Renault engine for power. The E5 was only available in the RD400 series. The Renault engine in a CM was an (06.02.24) engine if memory serves me right. The E5 came out after the end of CM production and at the start of RD400 series production. CM models are as follows.... 422 denotes Renault power single axle. 423 denotes Renault power tandem axle. 432 denotes 8.3 Cummins power single axle. 433 denotes 8.3 Cummins power tandem axle. Forget about boosting power on a CM. Be lucky it runs good. Those trucks are made for city pickup and delivery. That's about it. There were endless complaints for lack of power on any CS,MS or CM that hauled a trailer. After dyno testing, most passed at what the engine was rated for. Not to say therewis nothing wrong with yours. Just don't be surprised if you don't find an issue. -
Mechanical or Electronic

So your tach is off your alternator? -
Mechanical or Electronic
bbigrig replied to masterwelder's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
If you have an electronic tach......you should have an electronic engine????.....On a mechanical E7, wasn't the tach off a drive near the pump????(like an E6) Or am I forgetting something here on an E7???? I didnt work on very many E7 mechanicals. -
93 mh613 with e7 350 good or bad motor?
bbigrig replied to dennis101279's topic in Engine and Transmission
I would love to own an MH with a V-mac E7350. Good spec. -
automatic traction control
bbigrig replied to Lil' Ray Ray's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
When you pull the fuse you will lose both ABS and ATC. The braking system will return to a normal air brake system without ABS. I agree that the ATC system is absolutely useless. If you pull the fuse to get out of the muck do your self a favor and put it back in. Getting into an accident and someone finding out your ABS was screwed with by the driver can cost someone some serious $$$$$! -
You don't get more horses without feeding them. Yes the injection timing and metering are different between those HP ratings. Depending on the year of the E-Tech it will have a different turbo. 1 of our 460's smokes like an SOB but pulls good. Nothing wrong with it. Just smokes a bit.

Welcome. Nice to see an influx of Mack guys from Ontario lately.
-
It's funny that the first 3 things you mentioned about why guys buy Pinnacles instead of Granites are the same reasons why most customers won't buy Titans.
-
The 427 has a better torque curve and torque rise then the 460. Your CL has a bigger rad then his CX and would handle the extra heat energy your injectors etc. are producing.
-
Horse Pucky!!!! That guy at Mack must be a professional door greeter at the plant..... The worst part of that story.....The salesman was a former Mack Canada Engineer from Oakville....where when customers said we need this on our next order they went out of their way to make it fit if they could. He was so pissed!!!
-
I agree..... You are right at the Max. You would have been better off with something under 230" of wheelbase for B trains. Hook er up and get the tape measure out.
