  1. I agree with Gliders being the answer to our EPA add on crap woes. Up here in Canada, the Government is already talking about closing the loop hole that allows to rebuild into new trucks with Gliders by using pre 2002 EPA emissions. I'm seeing lots of the discontinued Freightliner Argosy cabovers coming up with "rebuilt Series 60 " already installed.
  2. I'm pretty sure the Australian Army's 6wheel drive trucks from the early 80's to the 2000's are built on the North American RM chassis.
  3. The E5 was a rebranded Renault engine slipped into the RD series of the 90's to make it lighter and cheaper for municipal orders. The Engine didn't go over so well and getting parts for the little bastard became a problem. It was the same engine offered in the CM422 with 6 individual cylinder heads similar to the Renault 06.20.30. engines found in early MS/CS 300 series Midliners. I would pass on that one if it is an E5. Not many have seen one, let alone worked on one and parts are none existant.
  4. Great work on the Glider. Nice Star. My second favorite make of truck but wouldn't touch one unless it has a series 60.
  5. Your E7 454 doesnt have the Mack "Stealth Brake" does it? Just an idea, as the 454 was the only model of E7 engine with this type of brake I believe. It was a combo of the usual rocker mounted mechanical engine brake with an exhaust brake mounted under the cab. (The 454's engine brakes seemed weak with compression brake only so Mack added to the package and it didn't last long.) might be worth a look to see if this 454 has the exhaust brake assembly under the cab still if it was ordered with the "Mack Stealth Brake". I've heard of guys not even knowing the system was on their 454 untill the gate in the exhaust started acting up. Most of the guys I know had the exhaust brake disconnected and deprogramed within 3 years of delivery due to constant issues. May not be your issue but its worth asking about. \ Give the big grey Deutsch connector at the injection pump a twist while its running and see if you have any worn pins or loose wires in that connection. That's a pretty common issue and will cut back on your throttle/power during a malfunction. Good luck.
  6. I've owned 2 over the years....Miss them both. I have a line on 2 MH's with E9's and every 6 months I call a company thats sitting on 3 of them, asking if they are ready to sell them.
  7. I'm not sure about the others on the forum but I'm seeing more and more Mack transmission failures especially the T300 series. I seldom see Macks coming in to the Canadian market with Mack trannies. Most Mack transmissions coming North now are M-Drives. The rest are Fullers for the most part.
  8. The Fuller 15 isnt bad a replacement for a 9 speed. There is an Eaton Fuller 9LL that was used for a while in cement mixers up here. It has lower gears then an 8LL for off road crawling. Its good for off road but the gear steps are pretty big for on road. The Mack 12speed is huge and has its own issues but I agree with Superdog, The "crashbox" 12 speed is the best of both worlds (on and off road) TRTXL1070B I believe.
  9. It was a show truck from the truck show in Toronto back in the 80's. There was an R model with a sleeper of comparable size that had a very similar paint job. I have some pictures of those trucks here somewhere....I will have to dig them up.
  10. Dimmer switch down by your knees on the lower section of the dash?
  11. I would say from the looks of things from here you are off to a great start....The truck is a great find.....Thus the jealousy....
  12. Reminds me of the Australian Mack Metro Liner
  13. Sooooo freakin jealous over here!!!!!!
  14. End of the signal stock is your clearance light flash (will flash trailer clearance lights aswell) The cruise buttons are usually the buttons as far as left can be on the lower line of switches. Your high beam is in the center of the stock arm and made to be pushed with your thumb. This would be based on CH interiors from 1990-1999. Anything late 1999 and up is the "Keystone interior" which is the same as the Vision interior until 2007. I believe from memory is as far left as possible in the center row. I think the unmarked dash button you ask about is the accel/decel button. push up and it accels the set speed. push down it sets the speed or decels the set cruise. I just realized your truck is down under That changes the button positions on the dash all together.......DOOOOHHHH
  15. I Love twin stick Macks!
  16. A very nice piece of equipment to restore. Good luck.
  17. Good day EH.....Welcome
  18. We had a batch of E-Tech engines from Mack between 2000 and 2001 that the blocks were not cleaned out properly from the casting process. We use to start having plugged coolant passages on the air compressors which would cause head issues on the compressors and coolant flow issues. there was a service bulliten on this issue back then. Not sure of the Ref. number. you may need to check your air comprssor if it is full of casting dust and grit. it is the one of the lowest areas in the cooling system and is where the dust and grit will settle when the truck is at rest. The quick way we tested them for coolant blockage or restriction was with a laser temp gauge pointed at the input and out put line of the compressor coolant lines. there will be a large temperature difference. At that time that batch of trucks were coming with a plastic air line running to the compressor unloader air line port. The compressors would get so hot the air line at the compressor would melt. We had to flush those trucks out but spread the intervals to once a week over 3 weeks. Hope you get the grit out....
  19. A Mack Titan Roll off being PDI'd at Cambridge Mack
  20. From the album: Misc Macks

Brand new Titan Roll off for a customer out of the Mack dealer in Mississauga, Ontario. Pretty sure the other roll off in there fleet is a CL733. Need a ladder to get into this rig and I can't imagine getting in and out to unhook bins too many times in a day. Nice Rig.
  21. Your truck being a 1998 is most likey an E-tech E7 that has the V-MAC III program. If you can find someone with the software on a computer or a pro-link scanner, get them to reprogram the shutdown parameters which sound like they are set for a 5 min idle shut down. Another way you may be able side step this issue is by idling up the engine to above set idle using the dash cruise control button.( turn cruise button on and hold accel. button till idle bumps up) most shut down parameters are only set to work at idle speed and shutdown wont work on high idle). Hope that helps.
