I have a possibility of purchasing some rescue tools to outfit my 1985 R Model Rescue Truck. I have read a little about the process. I currently do not have a passport to enter Canada - I live outside of Philadelphia, Pa. So my questions what is the best way to arrange pickup in Fort Erie, Canada and then have it shipped to the US, where I could pick it up. I am looking for suggestions for economic reasons. If anyone is near there, and coming to Macungie or other close areas, I would be willing to pay for transportation. Items will be available after the 9th if I win the bid. Do you have something that can be taken to a paint supplier from the truck? A lot of the bigger suppliers can scan the paint and come up with an almost dead on color. Just a suggestion..

Mike, welcome to the site. As suggested contact the Mack Museum with the serial number. They will be able to provide information on the truck. They will help you a lot, and making a donation helps keep the museum going. I don't know much about that year truck, but it does appear in great condition, and it runs. If you are not a member of SPAAMFAA please research and join. Most of the equipment you will need to outfit it is out there, you just need to find it. There are a couple of Macks on GovDeals now.

One thing you could do is place a request on the transportation board to see if someone on here can help you out. I drove my 65 B model 500 miles back home, and it was a long ride. As others have already stated check the fluid levels before the trip, and often. I suggest also checking the rear fluid level along with emptying the air brake tanks. Check tire pressure and condition, and pick up some extra oil and radiator fluid, along with wiper blades. Depending on who you insure with, you can get the roadside assistance, which will have it towed a certain distance if needed. Allow plenty of time and keep a list of Mack or other qualified service providers along your route in case you need help. In the end if you do drive it back it will be part of the story of the truck, and you will get plenty of waves and smiles. I would change all fluids when you get it back home. Enjoy!

I assisted in the removal of my 707C. We used a chain that was bolted to the top of the motor and a forklift. After removing the forward cross brace, the front mounts and transmission were unbolted. While bring the engine away from the transmission, it swung forward as we had to pull it away from the firewall. I had everything repainted on the front end while the engine was out, and placing it back in was a little harder. Again we used a forklift but the time used chain and blocks so we could lower the rear end in without damaging any of the new paintwork.We never touched the transmission. I am a novice with all of this work and found it a little overwhelming at times. My friend that did the work had no problems. I felt lucky that we pulled the engine because the clutch was very thin and needed replacement. There is a company in Baltimore that I found the clutch plate at that was very reasonable. I wanted to keep the original motor in the truck. It was a very expensive undertaking - probably 6K for the for the machine shop, parts, gaskets. Labor was free. Albert has a good suggestion in going with a 237 if you are open to that. I understand parts are readily available. If you decide to keep the 707, York, Pa. Mack has a great machine shop and the manager, Rick Riddle, has been doing engine work for over 30 years. We had the cylinders bored and sleeved because we could not locate over-sized pistons. Rick was instrumental in finding all of the parts needed for the rebuild. I used Olsons gaskets in Washington state for gaskets. If you have a timetable to get this done, you may want to replace the engine. We ran into problems finding bearings after the crank was polished, and at one point thought all of the work was wasted. In the end though I have a new engine that I am proud of. In the end it's about money, time, and if you want to keep it original. Best of luck in your venture! Mark
