  1. From what I have read about the early years of Mack in Australia, Cyril Anderson who ran a transport company and was part of importing and selling Mack Trucks in Australia in the early years, decided that batteries and electric starter motors were to unreliable to be used on trucks Australias conditions due to there not being many other vehicles around in you needed a jumpstart. He reasoning was that if it didnt start the first time that there were plenty of tyres that could be let down and transfered to the start tank. All this information is in a book about Leader trucks written by Rob Laurent who details Cyril Anderson and his moves from running a transport company to being the Australian Importer of Mack Trucks and finally developing his own brand of truck when he felt Mack werent supplying Australia with the truck configerations they needed. Its a pretty good read detailing the things that need to be down to convert from LH drive to RH drive from the A and B models to the mid 70's I think when he split with Mack to develop Leader Trucks.
  2. Hi The boss has just bought a 1983 Superliner for a yard truck. I havnt been able to get any serial numbers off it yet. It does have a the E9 engine and a 12 speed . I have a couple of questions after the first test drive. The tacho doesnt work. I noticed the tacho drive coming from the front of the engine but didnt have time to investigate much. Is there something that fails with these that can be fixed or is it just a case of buy new parts? The jakes are very intermittant. There is only a on/off switch on the dash, I couldnt see any stage switches but I dont know if they have then or not. When the jakes do come on sometimes they come on very well sounds and feels like all cylinders are working, other times it just coughs and splutters like maybe it is only working on a couple of cylinders. Are jakes supposed to be just all on or all off? How do you adjust the if they just need to be adjusted? This is the first time I have been around and driven a superliner after admiring then from a distance and wishing that I could have one. I had a big smile on my face the whole time I was driving it. Now for the hard work of giving it some TLC and getting it back to its former glory. Thanks in advance for you help Gav
  3. Here is some photos of what the governor is doing.
  4. I have the owners manual supplied by the museum but mine doesnt show anything about the woodward governors. The problem that I am having is that the lever assembly to the right of the throttle lever can be pulled out of the governor housing. I will get some photos that show what I mean. I bought the truck not running and I am just starting to look at what needs fixing to get the engine running.
  5. Hi Everyone Does anyone know where I can find some information on the woodward governors that were fitted to B models. I havn't been able to find anything. Here is a bad photo showing the fuel pump and govenor assembly. Thanks for your help. Gavin
