  1. Gday Skip, thats an excellent job. Better than new, hope i get to see it up close at some time. cheers ellis
  2. Hi, im after a speedo drive shaft (pencil gear) for a Spicer 4 speed gearbox. Gearbox is model no 8341D. Shaft is a Stewart Warner no 448909. If out of a similar model box I can probably adapt it. cheers ellis
  3. yeah i tried my local dealer, he had ones that would fit but not exactly the same and they were $100 each, a bit steep for my pocket. cheers
  4. Great thanks for that Paul, will keep an eye out for it. cheers
  5. hi im after two headlight rims to fit early R600 flintstone/steel bonnet style. would prefer good condition but minor damage would be ok. im located in southern aust. cheers ellis
  6. gday havnt timed it but woulda thought about right, one big go and if that fails a small second attempt before running out, air start is a good system usually.
  7. Gday fellas, think you were all pretty much right, mine has the stepped liner and meant to have firerings, mack mechanic said it must have been altered from original as the c motors came out without fire-ring set up - and motor was a service unit put in at later stage. have the right gaskets as said from a 237, they are a lot cheaper but now mack saying as its taken longer than two wks to sort out & might not be able to refund the difference as they dont sell them all too often, reckons last time he sold one here was 2002.. time will tell but at least i can go ahead and bolt her back together, im aiming to use hylomar (not sure of spelling) and same mech said should put some loctite 515 around water galleys as they had one leak yrs ago and thats what they do now? any ideas on that, guess if theyre doing it... cheers ellis
  8. thanks for input, still not 100% sure what im looking at, mine is same as middle pic, beaded i guess and measures 0.004 - 0.006 from flat deck (number 2.) to (number 3.) The gaskets ive got are fel-pro brand no 8197C for end673, end673T, end711, endL711 (20 stud holes for 5/8" diam studs. But as said they dont have a separate fire-ring, and i pulled rings off my old block? mack again tell me ive got the right gaskets?? any further input appreciated. cheers ellis
  9. the old ones were an orange hard fibre material type gasket and there were rings left stuck around lip of liners on block. i went back to mack and they said the gaskets ive now got are the only ones showing up for the c motor, that the rings are part of the gasket???? gaskets look like theyd work but is more confusing than anything else ive worked on.. ellis
  10. Gday Larry, the new ones are about 1/16" thick, maybe a tad under, they consist of two layers of copper. the old ones were material not copper. im going to have a crack at putting heads back on later in week if all goes to plan. cheers
  11. Gday, Ive got the heads off my C motor and have ordered standard gaskets but looking at how much the cylinder liners sit proud of block (about .050") cant see how ill get much compression on gasket when bolted down. Heads have small shallow grooves cut into them but still doesnt look right? What is the norm, and what do the fire-ring heads look like? any ideas? i dont want to bolt them down if wrong gasket... cheers ellis
  12. yep thought of that, talked to the old mechanic who worked on it in the 80's - is orig gasket set up. thanks for the input though. a complete set of head and associated gaskets from mack is around $475 aust, they dont give em away do they. cheers
  13. have pressure building up in radiator, hoping its just the gasket not head at fault. cheers ellis
  14. Gday, about to renew head gaskets on an endt673 c motor, what else would i need to order in to speed job up, any other gaskets/seals or can get by with whats there generally? and i guess is job pretty straight forward? any tips.. cheers ellis
  15. sorry for delayed reply Rob, been flat out, the rear end is 8.24 and running 10.00/20 tyres. hope this helps, dont bust a gut getting to this mob, but certainly appreciate if you could find out if they stock one, would be one less problem. im just about to try and rego the b model and now think that its got a blown head gasket or even a cracked head, this motor doesnt have the fire rings - gave her a decent run and building pressure in radiator, so more work to do, never ends. all the best ellis
  16. Now youve got me, yes have everything bar the working shaft, i have got one - but someone has ground the gear off it... why i cant fathom. The "pencil gear" slides in at 90degrees to tail shaft and on a slight downward angle, is held in with small cover plate with two 1/2" bolts, speedo cable then fits onto exposed end. not sure what else i can say as im not full bottle with these things. im not even sure if straight or helical cut gear is on it. ive tried to locate one in aust but no agencies still carry such old spicer parts and none to be found in wreckers, would be one or two floating around the country but in someones shed or being used in complete g/box. thanks again for your help, whilst i can get by without the speedo - would sure be better to have it working. cheers ellis
  17. That was bloody quick, its a 1972 spicer 4 speed joey, model no 8341D, bom is 300786-4. The shaft is a SW no 448909. Its 6" long, 3/8" & 9/16" diam. thanks
  18. hi cant help with your part but am interested in what the store that rob uses is, im chasing a SW speedo drive shaft and wondered if they might have one??? cheers
