There was a construction co down in Memphis that my family done a lot of subcontracting for who had a 84'MR685 W/ a 237 & a 2stick 6spd in it w/ 18f/a & 44k on camelback they ordered new & had it spec out as a Fuel/lube truck for the servicing of thier equipment. that was the oddest looking fuel/lube truck ive ever seen but it pulled like hell through the soft ground esp w/ the 1,000 gallon diesel tank & oiltanks & grease pumps & air compressor & reels it had on it's back & always kept Goodyear floats on the front & Goodyear Waste hauler lugs on the back it is semi retired & is still used from time to time but a 2004 DM 690S Was bought & speced out as its replacement Yall have a safeone

Thanks Jerry, Mackdaddy & Herb i was just speaking my mind & had to vent was putting my 2 cents in as i see it Rob & James : i hope yall are right & they cant kill off if Autocar could do it im sure the ole can rise from ashes like a phoniex not if but when it comes down to it . & not be a page in the history books I Just dont want to see put in the grave ya know look @ Autocar (towards the end of the v*l*o era) it was standard for the sweds motor in ACAR Insted of Cat, Cummins or Detroit ( most of the time ya had to order the truck to get the other 3 motors ) & the suspension was the same way that damn T RIDE Was standard insted of Hendickson rubberblock or walking beams or Chalmers (which were optional ) These reasons were the reason why my family wouldnt buy any NEW "Vol&*ized" Autocars caused they were "VO***OIZED " & they put that God ugly line across the hood To get a truck w/o thier suspension & motor ya had to order it & we checked in to it it took longer to ORDER an Autocar THE WAY WE WANTED IT SPECED VS A the way we wanted it speced So we went all the way (w/ the exception of a Couple of Jimmys we had) & My Family was as loyal to Autocar As we are to til the sweds got to jacking w/Autocar so much it was more Vo**o than A Car then we disownedd the newer vol**ized Autocars like a bad family member just my 2 cents yall have a safeone yall

Ya we had a driver when i was growing up i remember him shifting out of 1st & 2nd in low & then shift 3rd over to direct then other times he would shift 1ST Then from lo to direct then 2nd,3rd 4th & 5th Its hard to beat "bulldog low" (lo lo ) in the mud We had a job where we was a sub contractor on a set of double Bridge's here in the Millington aera bout 12yrs back on HWY51 We had to back up out of the pit loaded in "bulldog lo " up a hill then on to the high way & back down the southbound lanes bout a quarter to half of a mile to the 2nd bridge & back down another hill to the 2nd bridge & dump the excess dirt there (the southbound traffic where we was working was diverted on 1 of the lanes of northbound side lane & bridges) i liked the fact that i could back up in 5th gear once i was on the pavement & progressive shift in reverse it was freaking the other driver out that had the Kenny's & Petes for example I & My cousin made a lot of money off of bets on that job cause they said they could even out run Us in reverse A couple of OLE 77' & 79' DM685S w/ 237's & 2 stick 6spd out ran them K.W.'s & Pete's in reverse on hard pavement LOADED once i got close to that 2nd hill i was gearing back down progressivly to "bulldog lo" have a safeone yall
